These people are gonna ruin EVO
evo is gonna be absolutely hilarious, or a terribly sad trainwreck.
Rightfully so. It' a great series. Really got slept on.
...Not really. I mean, content-wise, of course it's an all-ages book, but from a business perspective, they're targeting the brony crowd. That's why the book exists in the first place.
These people are gonna ruin EVO
why would they be at EVO? there's no my little pony fighting game is there?
There's an unofficial fan game in development called "Fighting is Magic." It's in the running for the final Evo spot, which will be decided by which community can raise the most donation money for breast cancer research. Bronies are bombarding the donation drive, and FiM is in the lead.
So yup. Ponies at Evo.
Thankfully I came across this comic book. One of my favorite comic book covers anywhere. Quesada has chops. He can really switch his style and only the good ones can do that.
Forgive me if I'm wrong, but isn't that a Josh Middleton cover?
If it is I'm searching for him right now. The book makes no mention of it. Just talks about quesada and colors by baileu
I edited my post with a link to his gallery. Check it out.
yo for real. glad it's getting a second life with the omnibus edition
it's not all-ages
it's for little girls
let it go

Right. Those guys on the SF/Evo boards who already saw lots about the game and admitted it looks pretty great you mean. I'm sure they will be devastated.ugh
i mean, not like i go (and i'm not going to watch streams of people playing video games lol) but still, i feel bad for the kids who just want to go play some SF ya know?
Man, NYX was such a good miniseries. Shame that they ruined X-23 immediately after with some Christopher Yost/Craig Kyle torture porn. Worst writers ever argghhh.
He's pretty good on Avenging Spidey.
He's had one issue so far. He is good on Scarlet Spider though.
What I know is this:
At every comics shop I have regularly frequented in the past, if I have a decent sized pull list (10-15 titles a month), the owner will give me at decent discount on new books. Typically 15-20%. Sometimes higher. This would mean paying $3.20-3.40 for a book with a $4 cover price.
If I was to buy my books on DCBS, I would get 40% off regular cover price (not counting a flat shipping fee). This would mean paying $2.40 for a book with a cover price of $4.
All of these retailers need to make enough money to stay in business. If they are giving me 15-40% off, their margin is a lot bigger than that. Furthermore, Diamond doesn't distribute books for free, so add their cut in.
Once they have given the retailer and Diamond their cut, Marvel/DC/Image/Whoever also have to pay to get the book printed. I am sure the big 2 are getting a good deal on printing considering they are ordering over a million books a month each, but the cost isn't negligible.
After paying all of those cuts and fees, what are Marvel and DC left with? Maybe 30-35% of cover price? Potentially less than that?
There is no reason why digital copies couldn't be $1.99 each on DAY 1, other than the fact that it would potentially hurt the specialty shops. Publishers would be making the same amount of revenue (or more) per book (assuming a 30% cut from Comixology), and I am sure digital sales would increase dramatically. For old back issues where the cost of producing the comic (paying writers, artists, letterers, editors, etc) has already been covered, issues should be 99 cents. Not as part of some limited selection daily sale, but permanently.
He gets it!The book's main star is Jubilee
HE GETS IT!!"I feel like as far as the X-Men go, the women are the X-Men," Wood explains. "Cyclops and Wolverine are big names, but taken as a whole, the women kind of rule the franchise.
Hold me! Somebody hold me!!!But he's also using the first handful of Morrison's New X-Men issues from 2001 as a "personal template for how you do what I'm doing now,"
I will be buying X-Men.....it's going to feel weird buying 3 x-men books since dropping the section of the marvel u altogether after messiah complex.
The leaps and bounds the X-Books have made since then will blow your hair back, man. Crazy stuff.
Vive Les Mutants
And the amount of damn books they publish will bankrupt you in months. Jump on! 3.99! Double shipping! Rotating artists! 12 books!
I don't think the big two can do anything right without also royally fucking it up at the same time.
This sounds oh so sweet.
Jubilee gets to lead her own book, but x-man is still a d-lister? What was the point of bringing him back?
Why do people love Jubilee? she is so corny and uninteresting, oh and really annoying.
The Laura/Jube fans are going to be soooooo disappointed.
Finally a writer remembers that the X-Men are really a girl group. God bless Brian Wood.
X-23 can burn in hell.

Holy fuck. The comic gods have descended from on high and created a comic book made specifically for LiQuid!

I guess I have just enough disposable income to not be bothered, but obviously not everyone is in the same boat. I think that's another reason why the audience isn't expanding, for sure. You need to be in your thirties with a steady job to keep up with this shit.
Like I am. It used to be that I never noticed or thought about my comics spend. But all these double shipping books are making me notice now. When I'm paying $8 per title it makes me reflect a lot more on the value proposition therein. Or the lack of one.
The problem with the X-Men right now is that it's pretty good, and I'd like to read most of the books. But the sheer price is making me think again. And it's not like these books are high art, they're disposable and I doubt I'll ever read them again. It's tricky.
The other problem with serving the 30 year old manbaby market is that eventually, these guys are going to have kids. And then the first thing that gets the chop will be the comics budget.
While I agree with the latter, I don't understand the former
She went there, twice in fact. Both times she got out. Didn't you read those stories?X-23 can burn in hell.
Marjorie Liu brought Jubilee into the X-23 solo series to be BFFs with Laura and get her to live a little in the big Paris adventure. That and the vampire-blood-kiss-lesbian-subtext scenes generated a whole new legion of fans who wanted to see Logan's fanged daughter hang out with his clawed daughter on a regular basis. Which, of course, won't be happening because someone decided to stick Laura on Murderworld Island instead.Jubilee has fans? If they didn't fall off the ship when he turned in to a vampire. IBM think they are giid
All of Claremont's women were the most important in the 80s. Storm, Rogue, Psylocke, Shadowcat were all bigger than cannon fodder Wolverine and Colossus. Cyclops was booted off the team and slummed it with his highschool friends and Jean Grey over in X-Factor too. Even in New Mutants, it was basically all about Magik, Moonstar and Karma. And Exalibur was the Rachel/Kitty/Meggan show. It was my favourite time so I have a soft-spot for a women-focused X-Men.
