Jessica Jones #4

Definitely a filler buster issue but we did find out why she was in jail, why the baby is hidden, and kinda the aim of the bad guys. Also the art looks different in a bad way.

Power Man and Iron fist #12

Walker is putting in work with this current arc. I love this street level stuff. He made Tombstone a force to reckon with. action panels and that 2 page spread was just gorgeous. I think the book is bouncing back nicely after CW2

Also the events of jessica jones will be crossing over into the next issue. Danny has to calm down Cage.

Coming from someone who really disliked Bendis' GOTG run, I see no reason to be pessimistic about The Defenders. From what I've read (Alias) and heard (Daredevil and Luke Cage), he's written lots of great material for the members of the team.

Rocket Racoon #3

Pretty decent issue with the big highlight being
spider-man coming
Writers are definitely taking advantage of making fun of the younger heroes. I was going to drop this but then the last page was so amazing, that I had to stay on board to see this fight.

Disappointed in the lack of JSA swag out there. I already have enough nerdy shirts though haha.

Anyway Claremont's X-men run is getting better. Currently
Kitty was just introduced, X-men were kidnapped by the hellfire club
.

How much of Claremont's run should I read? I was only planning to read up until the end of byrne/cockrum's participation then jump ahead to Morrison's run.

I just finished the first six volumes to Saga and it's really great.

I'm surprised it's allowed to be sold on store shelves given that the series is basically part pornography.

Not sure who does the art but you at least need to get through the Brood Saga which IMO is the best part of Claremont's run. Nothing past that arc really reaches those heights.

They sell porno in stores tho...zenescope exists.

Its closer to smut, they also sell tasteful smut books like Sunstone. Also great. But yes Saga is wonderful.

GLA: Wow, was not expecting it to go there, even after I recommended it for younger audiences...eh.
Right now, it's a commentary on team hero books and it's fun.

PM/IF: I was expecting more bite to the ending but I assume that's what Street Magic is for.

Silk: One more issue til Ford comes back...art is good, Mattie is written well and it feels like everything is coming up Cindy...and then it reminds you it's a tie in.

Ms. Marvel: When GWW has post a warning online for younger readers, yeah...
This is gonna be a really interesting arc. It's about cyber harassment.
Yep. And right now, it's haunting.

So, quick question for you all. Is there any ongoing run that you would put up there with your GOATs?

No safe bets. The most obvious nominees are East of West and Lazarus, but it isn't hard to imagine either of those books never getting a proper ending

Sticking the landing is really, really, really important

Edit: that said, I am reading a great many comics that are fucking fantastic in a wide variety of genres. I am a happy comic fan.

How is East of West so far? I was reading it for a while but dropped it after 14 issues.

The third year just started and things have gotten pretty crazy. The first year has a lot of setup...things start to move forward in the second year.

It's a tricky book, very dense. A huge cast of characters and you really can't afford to forget any of them. I feel it keeps getting better as it goes along, but I have loved it from the beginning so take that as you will.

Doesn't hurt that every issue is drop dead gorgeous.

I've been thinking about reading through the first two years again and taking my own notes. It's one of my favorite books.

So it's another Hickman book then. I might check out the rest of the series when I get money or when a sale on ComiXology.

Nightwing #11
I liked this issue. The Run-Offs is a neat idea and provides a good cast of potential characters for the book. And it makes sense that this would be a thing, since Blüdhaven isn't too far from Gotham and basically out of the Bat family's territory. I have an issue with this, though: by having a lot of the characters already be from Gotham, Blüdhaven loses a lot of its own agency as a location. It still locks Dick in as this "second-hand Batman" that it felt like Higgins was writing in his run. It bums me out, and this storyline with him "not knowing who he is" bothers me. It feels like I've seen this twice already, and I didn't enjoy it the last time. Solid issue all around, aside from my personal hang-ups.

Nightwing #12
Some good action this issue, but I'll be damned if some of this dialogue felt super forced. Outside of that it was pretty good, hitting on all the points I needed it to. And we aThough I do hope that Blüdhaven isn't just an arc and an actual place to stay for Nightwing. I need some slow-burn storylines in at least one of the books I'm reading. We've seen the ad campaign manager being shady and a touch of what the police are like, leaving room for some most-definitely corrupt police.

Still a good book.

I hope the writer hasn't completely ejected a lot of the Blud mythos because I loved his job at the police, the apartment complex, Clancy just to name a few.

I won't miss trying to redeem marvel digital codes, so that's the one plus.

Also, there's a lot of fake comic reviews here, I think this place needs to be more careful with what they say they think about books.

unbeatable squirrel girl gives me hope that comics can still be good
JC when the fuck you gonna read transformers mtmte series?
You want to find the best writer to pick up marvel's xmen? James roberts is your man, and his mtmte run is his resume

Also where's my next redking issue of kaijumax?

After taking breaks here and there, I finally finished Person of Interest. Top 10 show, no contest and one of the best superhero shows I've seen.
I completely forgot Daniel Way was gonna do a Ant-Man series only to get canned when he said Hank "had a gay costume"

Huh.
It wouldn't have been good anyways. Way isn't a good writer. In fact, he's a bad writer.
Great build up.
What from?

I massively agree. Rise of Raptor gave me hope and redeemed every issue I had with the entire book prior to it. I hope this arc has a similar redemption at the end, because if it does, then Seeley being able to completely break Dick down as the character people think he is and build him back up into the character he actually is and has been, is actually quite genius and I think I've talked myself into loving the book more than I did.

Either way it's still a better book than Higgins' run, and that's all we can ask for.
Charlamagne tha God is writing a Marvel book? This year is already worse than last.
Did anyone read the Infinite Comic with Charlamagne?
Oh this brings up so many questions...

Lies. The most Hickmanly book is Manhattan Projects, it's just a sporadic publisher.

Now we must define Hickmanliness to make sure we're talking about the same thing. I'm talking about his tendency to approach stories like an architect, building an elaborate frame and then filling it with rooms.

By this measure, I consider Manhattan Projects one of the least Hickmanliest of his books, because it progresses much more like a normal story, expanding in scope at a fairly normal rate and utilizing characterization and plots that feel like they sprang organically from each other during the process of writing the book.
