COMICS! |OT| October 2015. ...Are just something we do while the patch downloads.

Bunn might be able to get some decent work out of him and, you know, there's always a chance he starts to genuinely give a shit.

Let me say again -

Was actually pretty good! It was an enjoyable light hearted read. I went into it very skeptical because I'm a huge DnA cosmic fan and I'm familiar with the massive amounts of negativity that surround Bendis's Guardians. The only thing I read from his previous run was the Original Sin story out of curiosity to learn Rider's (Ryder -_-) fate. Boy, was that a mistake or what. But so far this new issue was actually fun! I didn't like the idea of a new Star Lord at first but Kitty is pretty cool. I have no idea how Quill is an emperor now but I'm definitely intrigued. I am gonna be reading the next couple of issues at least to see where the story goes and I think people should give it a chance if they're avoiding just cause of Bendis.

The one thing I dont like at all is Groot's new design.

the two books i like the least and read the most on MU are Slott Spider-Man stuff and Bendis X-books. Both leave me disappointed in comics in general yet I persist.

I don't think you really NEED to follow that guide, it is a good reference though.

For example I did Hellboy 1-2, BPRD Plague of Frogs 1, Hellboy 3, BPRD PoF 2-3, Hellboy 4, Hellboy and The BPRD 1952, Hellboy 5-6, and now I'm on BPRD 1946. Never had any confusion during it.

The side stuff doesn't seem essential either. Hellboy and BPRD are the only ones you really ~need~ to read. Everything else is just to flesh out the universe more.

Awesome, thanks. Just wanted to check since I finally hit that point, though I suppose I did just fine with having read through all the Hellboy Library editions first, which I think gives the biggest spoiler anyway.

Condolences, Messi.
Yeah, but..... Greg Land.
I believe
Oh boy

If you look in the petition article comments, it seems that apparently The Winter Soldier film is to blame for that.

Messi, sorry to hear the bad news. One of my aunts passed away this year after several years fighting cancer. Stay strong brother.

Looking at the Comixology sale, what are peoples' thoughts on the following:

Spider-Man Blue, House of M, X-Men Battle of the Atom, and Infinity

Everything else I want, I already have.

lol oh my... people gettin' pissy about Spencer writing good shit, eh?

Hmm I actually like all of those haha

House of M is the weakest out of those I think. Good for a bunch of what if scenarios.

Infinity will lose you if you havent read a good chunk of Hickman's Avengers run. Its essentially an elevated big arc to his run

I really enjoyed Battle of the Atom, but I guess it depends if you dig Bendis on the X-Men titles. It gets a bit crazy being split up between a few titles so switching between series to keep reading it was the most annoying thing for me,

Spider-Man Blue is just a classic Loeb Sale joint. Somehow Loeb can write really well when he's working with Sale

Every time there's a Marvel sale and they exclude MAX, I feel like they're telling me I can't have Alias until they decide it's OK.

I'm definitely getting Clean House next week. I'll see what people think before I grab Invincible Iron Man #2 and Tokyo Ghost #2 though.

Alias most likely will be discounted on Comixology in November to promote Jessica Jones on Netflix, I feel very confident saying that.

Here's the video to go with it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=THg1kmxZk6M

You speak the truth. Moralizing is what comics USED TO DO when they taught MORALITY and Christianity as they did in the early Archie Comics which preached the gospel. Now they teach sodomite marriage and anti-americanism and disrespect our soldiers. What is going on today at the comic book companies and the big media conglomerates that own them is PURPOSEFULLY DEMORALIZING AMERICA. The comic book companies, just like Hollywood, teach WHITE GUILT AND NATIONAL SHAME while promoting IMMORALITY. It is the communist standard operating procedure used to DECONSTRUCT a Christian nation and institute International Communism in its place replacing the "resisting reactionary whites" with "socialist brown-skinned people." After a hundred years you'd think people would start to understand and recognize the pattern and of course many do. That is why comic books and movies are on the decline and why people are buying conservative BOOKS (you liberals know what those are right? Well I guess not. Only conservatives read books while liberals read comic books since they are educated by the public school system and largely illiterate.) by the truckload.

My condolences Messi. Stay strong.

Lol the Captain America stuff. Socialism is a dirty word where ever you are in the world.

Funny thing is, that (at least according to someone here on ComicGAF who told me this) Cap was a Social-Democrat before he was transformed into a Non-Political Character.

Oh... my... God...

This is a special kind of dumb.

It's the dumb that goes places. It's prog rock dumb. It's irregular time signature dumb. I love it.

It's crazy how these people don't even realize the Sons of the Serpent have existed and been racist as all hell in Marvel Comics for years, until the leading candidate of the Republican Party started sounding almost exactly like them.

They've become cartoon villain fascists, while comics have just slightly tweaked the language.

The scenes where Cap was hand delivering the immigrants anchor babies so they'd be able to stay in the country seemed a little out of place, personally.

oh man, you're gonna hate issue #2, when Redwing sneaks into people's homes to take their guns away and Misty Knight forces good American people to get into FEMA camps so they can get poisoned by Obamacare

I always assumed people into comics would be more left leaning.

I consider myself center (leaning left a little) but I don't care much for allusions. I like comics as an escapism and for immersing myself into that universe. Not saying what comics should or should not be, just what I enjoy. I suppose that's a big reason I can't get into some of Morrison's comics.

Following up on my plunge into Valiant..

The Valiant panel was great. It was a sales manager for Valiant kind of doing a quick intro to the main players of the universe. They had a sweet 5 volume 1s for $30 deal at the con, so I picked up

The Valiant
Archer and Armstrong
Divinity
X-O Manowar
Ninjak

And my Wife won a copy of Dead Drop and she got it signed by the artist Adam Gorham. This was my first non-pathetic-sized con and I was pretty astounded by all the merch and the artist alley. The only disappointment was the gaming tourneys were a disorganized mess.

I read the X-O Manowar trade in one sitting. It was a fun action comic. Given I already had the gist of it there wasn't too many surprises. I think I'll pick up the second volume though. Moving onto The Valiant today.

every piece of art or literature is created within a sociopolitical framework

everything is political. only when a work deviates from the established norm is it usually accused of being political.

out of the big heroes you could make the case Spider-Man is essentially apolitical although his problems or villains are likely so.

superman and cap america clearly push american sociopolitical ideology.

batman and iron man dont exist as they are without living in an imbalanced capitalist society

thor's whole deal is that hes the prince of asgard

so when a work isnt criticized for being political its because its mostly conformed to historical, demographic and social expectations.
