Let me know how it goes! I want one and a $150 ASUS 1ms GTG monitor for taking to events. Set it up with a Avermedia LGP and let it record away during friendlies.

Also to everyone worrying about a GameFAQs or whatever poll, remember melee is almost two decades old at this point.
Most people have moved on apart from the die hard fanbase.

Based on what I've read, with a fast enough monitor it's supposed to have less than 1/5 of a frame of lag. Which isn't quite CRT level but in practice it is effectively* lagless. I have a VH236H which should be sufficiently fast.


*effectively, because even CRTs aren't all the same and aren't truly lagless. Once you start getting into subframe accuracy things get weird.

It's surprisingly good.

I mentioned earlier that I had voted for Melee over it, but Melee is one of a handful of games that I would choose over Undertale. Really something special.

There's always some weird drive going on for these GameFAQs polls. Last one I remember was some League hero winning best character.

Not that Undertale isn't a phenomenal game. It's just not that popular and would have drowned in the first round without some concerted effort.

Also. Smash 4 is such a disappointment. Could you imagine all these announcements for a game that felt like Melee/PM?

I'll download all the new characters, but I doubt I'll play either of them for more than a week.

I think Smash 4 is fun, but I'm mostly done with it at this point. It's a great game, but there are a lot of great games.

I'll probably download the characters (and Dreamland) once there is a full character bundle. And if it costs too much I might wait until it's discounted. Haven't bought any DLC for it, but why would I buy DLC for a game I haven't played since last December.

Ya this is where I am at too. When the last characters came out I got them and played for about a week.

I just don't like the game that much, despite all the cool DLC characters.

Ken and KDJ teamed for a while, but I guess PewFat would be the first that was a team before getting sponsored. It's good, that's exactly what should happen. Next let's see Alliance get Android!

Fortunately, I doubt that was it :p Even the official Sonic twitter gave them a semi-thumbs up. And if it were, they could have just dumped Knuckles and the Sonic alts anyway.

Pretty much where I'm at.

Maybe someday we'll get the Melee 2 we so strongly desire, and when Sakurai announces playable Goku and Master Chief for that game, I can truly get excited :)

I'm watching what looks to be a dorm tourney stream of PM.
It's a land with zero techskill and Marth forward smashes tear through the universe.
It's like I'm in a time machine, dey keepin the hype real tho.

That bottom row would have everyone screaming. The character choices. The disorder. Everything about it is "wrong" and breaks the "rules." But here we are.

So uh. Where are they going to fit two more characters? Because I only really see room for one, unless they drop the random button.

I believe the 3ds version added a "additional characters" tab that goes to a second page containing the dlc characters. It ran out of room with cloud's release and chose this solution. Might be about to happen to wiiu when the rest drop.

That works for the 3ds because only one person will be using the character select screen. On WiiU I don't want to switch to a different tab when up to 7 other players are picking their character and want to pick from the first tab.

True true. hmm well people have been complaining about obnoxiously tiny text on game screens since the hd era began. perhaps we'll be enjoying the era of obnoxiously tiny smash icons soon.

Jesus the wobbles/westballz sets took the throne of "came closest to exploding my heart" for 2015.

I need to go back in the vod tomorrow and see how much easier, if any, wobbles' life would have been if he had just resorted to his namesake immediately at every opportunity instead of making things interesting. With how weston was mashing out of seemingly-unmashable things a couple times, I guess maybe wobbles's quest to style out of grabs instead has now had a practical benefit.

The Smash community sort of exploded with the Round 1 bye info announced. I think this was mostly for Smash 4, but for Melee I didn't have any strong opinions. I think it should have been something like top 32, because after top 25, it gets kind of murky, but I do believe having top 32 players available for side events is much more valuable and makes the competition in the pools significantly more exciting.

Did anyone have a strong opinions regarding this?

I don't think it's such a big deal as people make it.

Doesn't seem like it'll really impact the bracket at all. Upsets that far down are pretty rare in Melee.

But if I'm SSJxMarthMasterx3000 (I am ^.^) and I'm paying 50 or 100 bucks to go to Genesis and enter (though I'm not), I would really like to have a shot at playing against someone relevant. I guess Genesis is big enough that top 32 or 64 removed still has enough 1st seed big names to go around for everybody though.

Yeah on the one hand I think everyone should have to slug it out in pools, regardless of who you all. But, round one byes mean more people get chances to play without getting destroyed by pros, in a sense.

Speaking of TO'ing, I reserved a room on campus for the end of the month but to get the cost reasonable I have to make venue fee free to students and "ask" for donations. Not to mention I can't charge for tournament entry due to the school requirements.

Trying to find new venues / run tournaments has just been a pain in the ass. I need to drop it for a while and focus on Bad Blood in February.

For Smash 4 it gets difficult after like the top 10.

seriously you could've taken #23-#42 on the initial seeding list, randomized it, and the resulting order would be no better or worse than before
