Confirmed: PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro Have VRR Stuttering Problems

Bad news from DF about the PS5…

BUT BUT PC STUTTER
it's a different type of stutter.
And nothing I noticed finish wukong or playing ac shadows.
Maybe it's not a thing with locked games (be it 30,40,60)
But I did not notice anything in stellar blade pro either

anyway - something sony must fix but no wonder they missed it. It's hard to notice even with the timer in their video lol

DF being very vague and refusing to get correct info before spreading lies about Sony... Again

Sure, this may be happening on some TVs, but they claim it happens to every VRR display. Nope. My Bravia TV works flawlessly without any stutter - and that's after many, many hours of gameplay in one session.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't see anything out of the ordinary, other than the framecounter itself.

How the hell do they even manage to make a 18min video out of this?
Some of the most 'nerd' stuff I've seen recently.

Having said that, Arma Reforger has constant screen-tearing on PS5 Pro, despite VRR.🤷🏾‍♂️

I just finished TLOU Part II Remastered and the issue was very obvious. I ended up capping the frame rate to 60 fps.

Hogwarts Legacy never actually ran fine in HFR mode in my experience.

But unlike Oliver I didn't notice the issue playing Spiderman Remastered (base PS5 in my case instead of PRO). And I really looked for it. So I don't know, this is weird.

olivier "big, bad, intrusive, very noticeable issue"
but it's been going for months and it's first time people (and df) are hearing about it....
The issue so great and so visible that it took them MONTHS to notice it....

Broken clock rofif rofif is absolutely correct here IMO. I skimmed that video and noticed absolutely nothing besides their frame time counter. I also never notice their PC stutters. Only game it was noticeable to me was Wukong, but it always sorted itself out after like 5 mins of playing. 🤷‍♂️

I think this has been going on a long time, not just the last few months. When I started my play through of Elden Ring on the PS5 in the last quarter of 2023 and then switched to playing on Series X the game was noticeably smoother on Series X even though it has a lower average frame rate (playing in performance mode).

I think there was a problem with VRR on the PS5 even back then. But the stutters may have been even more prominent if I'm remembering correctly. And it's especially noticeable on Elden Ring because the game is frequently sub-60fps on both consoles.

lol this is total nothin-burger compared to invasive shader compilation stutter of every other pc release.
but whatever makes pcmrns feel good about their $3k gpu purchase

damn who let the dunce squad out again this early?

noone is talking about PCs. stop being a fanboy bitch.
issues like these need to get attention so that the people who can fix them actually take note.

Moral of the story: buy an Xbox or deal with it (though I have very little stuttering on the Pro and usually just in UE5 games on PC).

that's not the same issue no. that's just because on Xbox you can force LFC and have a VRR window from 20 to 120 fps, while on PS5 the moment you drop below 48fps VRR will turn completely off until it is above 48fps again.

that's working as intended so to speak. this issue here seems to be a mismatch of the display refresh and the PS5's refresh
