Console exclusives on PC

Self-avatar quoting is lame.

It's impossible to argue against. The amount and variety of content on PC is staggering. Especially when take advantage of the inate backwards compatibility of the platform. I only beat Planescape: Torment this year (and loved it). That's an old fucking game, Especially by console standards.
Yeah, between 20 years of library building up and more new games being released each month than on any console platform I don't really see how anyone can argue against it.

Also good on you for playing the game of all time ;)

I am definitely not misusing it here, you are acting entitled, Sony allow full creativity for their first party to make games and if you feel they are mediocre then fine, TLOU, God of War, GT, LBP, Uncharted, Ratchet and Clank, Jak and Daxter, Infamous, Sly cooper, MLB,, Motorstorm, Resistance, Killzone, most of these million or multi million dollar franchises and are popular

Yeah none of them get acclaim (Last of Us, GOTY over 200 awards) or sales, that is why they are continously being made, face palm, You basically spouted a load of crap without thinking

Sony's IPs are diverse (indies, PC games, AAA, creative AAA, story driven games, JRPGS), they give a lot of variety and mass appeal, you cant give everyone what they want cause not every one likes the same thing but you can get to a good amount of people which Sony ips currently cater to, your idea of an RPG isnt going to be for everyone who buys a PS4, that is why you are entitled, unbelieveably entitled in fact

Both Blood Borne and the witcher have action combat and RPG elements, that is all i need to know

As I said before, STICK TO YOUR PC, the less of you we have in the PS community, the better

It's incredible how hostile you are.

Too bad I already owned PS2 and own PS3 and thus am part of your precious PS community, "gamer".

As many and with as much variety as this year?
Never.

I'll make a thread about this during the holidays.

As someone who is playing dvimity and wasteland 2 right now ... Looking forward to it.
and the outlook ... Pillars, torment, ... Good times ahead.

Before port of indie game: Who cares about those games? They are just crap indie PC games.

After port of indie game: -insert indie game list wars between ps4 and xbox users-

I always want indy games on console. :)

I do not like to play them on PC.

If you use 'console exclusive' in your marketing speech on on a forum, you should feel bad as it's not an exclusive, it's on another platform. Period.
I can never understand why the term is still used.

The more I get for the PC, the more happier I am even though I don't own a proper high eng rig anymore, but when I do, I can play the old games later with more fidelity than ever.

I am currently playing Witcher 1, just to catch up on the saga before the third game. Looks like shit by today's standards, but still enjoyable as a game. Some games I can't even play because my LAPTOP can't handle them anymore. They are there waiting for me and Steam sales expand on that library.

I bought the PS4 for all the nice true Sony exclusives that will always be there and I will get PS5 in the future because I know they'll be there too. Some games just won't be on PC and that's why I still buy my consoles and because many coop/multiplayer experiences have moved my friends to be console players, even the ones that were hardcore PC gamers. Heck, they still are but lo and behold they now have consoles under their TV's and we play together slightly more on the consoles nowadays.

And about platform crossplay. Best thing ever. I suck in Warthunder on a pad, but I still enjoy to play it with my friend. He plays on a PC using a fighter and I bomb the bases on a PS4. Works like a charm. More PC-PS4 crossplay. Hell, twist MS to do it too. It's fun. Share the fun, don't limit your audience by arbitrary rules.

This has been a thing forever. A few examples off the top of my head:

- Mega Man X (SNES, PC)
- Sonic 3 & Knuckles (Genesis, PC)
- Sonic CD (Sega CD, PC)
- Ecco the Dolphin (Genesis, Sega CD, PC)
- Panzer Dragoon (Saturn, PC)
- Sonic R (Saturn, PC)
- Final Fantasy VII (PSOne, PC)
- Final Fantasy VIII (PSOne, PC)
- Metal Gear Solid (PSOne, PC)

(OK, a bunch of PSOne/PC games were PSOne-only on consoles due it being impossible to port to N64 or Saturn, but the point still stands)

On a practical level, what I suspect is happening is this: the cost of gaining exclusivity continues to rise as development costs do. As a consequence, platform holders are settling for a narrow concept of exclusivity because it's cheaper.

In other words, paying Capcom to put their game exclusively on Playstation 4 is likely significantly more expensive than paying Capcom just to avoid the Xbox. That's likely where we're at now: Sony and Microsoft are paying companies just to avoid putting versions of their games on each other's platforms, and then spinning that as a "console exclusive." My guess is that these games could go to iOS if and when the platform can support it without having to remake the game altogether. Maybe the Wii U is also explicitly excluded, but its install base and market may require no further encouragement to avoid.

That's also the explanation I consider most likely. It's simple and doesn't require any mental gymnastics or ascribing feelings of goodwill or benevolence to corporations.

Console exclusive feels like a term you'd desperately grasp at when you've got nothing else to offer. When the game is available on more than one platform it's not exclusive.

Console games coming to PC? Fantastic, the same game but with better graphics. All for it.

Also I wouldn't really call FFXIV a console game that came to PC.

Is there more and how do you feel about it?
Great. There is no other valid feeling for me about this one as I prefer playing on my PC. The only reason for me buying a console was and still is its exclusive titles. I've sold my Xbox 360 since most games I'm interested in got on PS3 and/or PC. There is not even a handfull of games on Xbox 360 only (and REALY only) that I'm interested in. And if the rest of the games would make on in PC I could sell my PS3/4, too.

This has caused absolute madness in the List Wars Community, no one knows what can go on what list legally now.

Love your avatar btw. Go Tigers.

Agreed. I think this makes the most sense.

Can anyone think of any examples, thus far, of games which are on Playstation and iOS but not Xbox, or on Xbox/iOS and not Playstation?

Platform exclusive software is a thing from the past. Increasing budgets and costs will make exclusive software rarer nonetheless. There is a reason why big games like Ryse get a PC release after a while.

Think there will be more time exclusive deals rather than exclusive software in the future.

Only ones that are on those platforms and not on PC? And what about Android?

Sorry for the confusion: yes, they can be on anything else as well. So games on PC/iOS/Xbox, count, or Android/iOS/Playstation. I'm trying to determine if there are any games which may have exclusivity paid for but which allow the developers to put their games on mobile platforms.

Or, even more directly: I'm trying to determine if these exclusivity deals are truly as simple as "You can put your game on any platform except Xbox," or "You can put your game on any platform save Playstation."

If these deals exist at all, of course; I could be wrong.

Yeah that makes sense

I feel great.

Let's continue spreading the idea that PC is not competing with consoles if this is the result.
Yeah, I said the same thing several times in the past.
It's a great solution. Console supporters can keep their bragging rights about excluding the competing brand, while we'll get more games just because "PC is not a real competitor, not even a real gaming platform". Or something.

Or again, a few extra sales is better than none.
And owners of both are happy to have the choice. Like "oh, a fun mod is out, now I'll buy" or "the game is finally out, now I'll buy".

I can't think of any examples, but I believe most games such deals potentially apply to aren't suitable for (or designed to be possible on, either in terms of hardware requirements or controls) mobile in the first place.

I really dont get some of the hostility being shown in this thread. Like all I can think of is its great PC is getting some games their way along a PS4/XB1 copy while the infighting between console gamers stay there but doesnt seem that way.

Outside of Threes! I'm having troubles coming up with much.

I love it. I'd certainly own neither a PS4 or Xbox One if it weren't for the exclusives so I hope the trend expands and I can go PC only. I think consoles are amazing for gaming as an industry because a) more people will jump on 400 dollar consoles and b) a standardized platform pushes developers to explore resource-efficient ways of enhancing gaming graphics at a higher rate it seems, but PC versions are just the way to go if you're able to own a powerful enough rig.

Everyone knows console is best for near launch sales and PC is best for longevity. Sony understands that, that's why they don't mind games they support launching at the same time as PC.
