Cracked: 5 Reasons Wrestling Fans Are Giving Up On The WWE

It's cherry picking at it's finest. As early as 2 years before that the Women's division was literally Sable vs Debra (neither of which is an actual trained wrestler) in bra and panties matches and it had no effect on the popularity of wrestling
Pretty much. Individual women became stars (Chyna/Trish/Lita/Steph) but the division was an afterthought otherwise.

Internet wrestling fans are so stupid. To them CM Punk, Kevin Owens, and Seth Rollins are top tier stars. It's amazing that they still think that way in 2016.

Reminds me of the hail Brian Kendricks days when Cena turned into a serious character and the internet hated his ass.

After seeing that top 5, how they completely ignore how thin the roster is and how void of superstars potential is beyond me.

They really do have legit female wrestlers now, Bayley and Sasha in particular have the potential to be far bigger stars than Trish and Lita and Sable ever were.

Instead the jokers running the main roster have made Sasha into another irrelevant nobody and they WILL screw up Bayley when she comes up.

They have to have everyone wrestle every show because of 3 hr raw and too few people on the roster, and then wonder why everyone gets injured so much.

I started watching around WM31 and before that, a couple of RAW episodes and liked Seth Rollins a lot.

After that, I barely know what's happening in there, aside from some dudes faking strikes and well, wrestling.

But "storylines", "character arcs"? What? I just see those guys beating the crap of each other, you mean there was a background to this before?

Think I started watching WWE way, way too late.

Yes. This is the Attitude Era.

If you haven't seen the Attitude Era, you should be watching it on the network instead of watching live Raw each week.

They have yet to find someone to replace CM Punk spot. In fact even terrible/out of shape, injured Punk still better than the majority of the roster.. It is horrible.

Talent is not their problem. They have a wealth of it.

It is the booking. They protect no one outside of Cena, Stephanie McMahon, and now Reigns.

I swear, if you replace Reigns with Randy Orton. Your quote is from 2004. I'm not even fucking kidding.

Like most things, competition brings out the best in people - WWE has zero competition, they compete against other cable shows and variety will always win.

Wrestling should have died in the 90s but going rated R and the WCW battle saved it. The 2000s were a disaster and should have killed it but it survived. Time has simply caught up with WWE - Fans like me won't watch and never will again.

Pretty much all stories involve two opposing forces having a conflict. Wrestling's just very direct.

so its supposed to be like a written show? would it be better if the show was written and directed like a movie or would that be worse? is it supposed to be mimicking live sports event on purpose or is that on accident? would it be better if it didnt seem like a live sports event or worse? seriously the whole thing is like a Gordian knot to me

Attitude era was the best era. I watched their glory years from about 92 to 04. Sad to see they're in such a sorry state now.

No they don't. They have a bunch of people with no Charisma and no leeway to create anyways. All of them read off a script, they are actors who can jump around and take a hit. There is no one, repeat NO ONE, in the nxt or WWE stream who is the next Austin or Rock. Bryan was the closest and he had the personality of a wet paper bag.

I agree with everything except the divas division compairson, they compared a shitty match from 2014 to Trish vs Lita. The divas back then were just as shit besides those two.

Indeed. They biggest part of the frustration for me is seeing the most talanted roster the company has seen since the hight of the attitude era and just seeing everyone wasted at every turn.

The Divas Revolution is the perfect example of people with obvious talent and a obvious direction they should be taken things in being wasted but the same shit goes on elsewhere. Example: Neville is a super talented guy who should be at least a decent mid card championship contender and instead he was simply slotted into Evan Borne's old spot of dude who goes out and does some flippy shit to get a pop week after week with no creative direction behind him other then "do something so we can use our slow motion camera".

Oh and outside of a few feuds the womens division has pretty much always sucked. Its only extra sucked in recent years because the gap between Trish and Lita retiring and the start of HHH run NXT, the female talent on the main roster was nothing more then a pack of Eva Maries small packaging each other week after week.

same.

haven't gone anywhere near this trash in years.

It used to be something I would look forward to on monday nights, can't remember the last time I thought about wrestling and it wasn't directly related to how good it used to be back in the attitude era.

It can be anything. WWE Raw is kind of like a live show about making a live wrestling show (like they air out scripted grievances between employees in the ring in front of the crowd, which makes no logical sense as part of a regular wrestling show). Lucha Underground does its backstage skits like little action movies. A big part of the criticism against WWE is it's been the exact same format for 20-ish years.

They actually do if he look at the indies stuff a lot of them did.

Deal is when a wrestler gets themselves over they get punished. Punk and Bryan and Zach Ryder were the last to do so.

One had to play second fiddle to Cena nonstop, one put in high risk matches nonstop and thrown under the bus repeatedly and then Zach who just got obliterated off the stage.

just add DBZ effects and the ratings will skyrocket

Your post is a joke, but it would be neat if they actually made something like this LOL. Some sort of highly choreographed/edited fighting, like a movie. But not like the shitty WWE movies.

1994, 1995, 1996 and 2003. GLORY YEARS! They gotta bring em back.

Doink vs Bam Bam vs Goldberg vs LT fatal four way at Armageddon in your house. Ratings would go through the roof.

I hope no one kids themsevles if they think Rock or Austin would've made it in today's WWE.

Vince would force Rock to stay as Rocky Mavia no matter what, Austin would end up quitting or getting buried or fired for trying to push the envelope too much.

Uh, well, I suppose that this is all subjective in the end, but I am just going to say that you are wrong anyway. They have a multitude of guys with charisma.

And let's be honest, no one was saying that Austin or Rock would be the next Hogan before they got big, and when they were placed into ill-fitting gimmicks at first, people were mixed on them, especially Rocky. But they protected Austin and let him find his own voice, and voila, he got over!

The Rock has so much charisma that he probably got the least protection and did more jobs than any main eventer in history, but could you see it coming when he was Rocky Maivia, Blue Chipper? No. Because it's the booking...and the writing of dialogue.

New Day was Rocky Mavia times 10,000 when they debuted.

To be fair, Rock and Austin wouldn't of made it in any era besides the late 90s. Late 90s society culture was filled with wanna be rebels. Today the culture is all over the place.

The guy who wrote this actually watches wrestling? He couldn't be more wrong about the Womens Division. In 01 you had two decent performers who had one worthwile match, now you have way more women WRESTLERS holding the spotlight.

Sounds like someone who doesnt watch NXT, and if he doesnt, then I cant say I care much about his opinion, hes not properly informed.

He's clearly talking about the main roster product.

If we were looking at NXT there'd be very few problems. That show is great.

The two are linked, you cant (and shouldnt) talk about one without the other. Saying the division is bad while showing a match from 2014 is a joke, the division has changed a lot in one year.

I mean, he complains theyre models before wrestlers, wasnt aware Charlotte, Banks and Becky Lynch were models.

He's wrong about the talent. They just get screwed by shitty writing.

The problem is that Vince doesnt give fans what they want. He forces people to like what he wants. He decides to ignore and punish guys who get over naturally and force people to like who he wants. Just look at how hard they are trying to get Roman over, and look how he treats other fan favourites. Look at how he has a glass ceiling called John Cena, and how any good opponent of his is chewed u0 and spat out once they lose to him

He is talking about the main product. NXT is fantastic but doesn't have Vince/Dunn destroying the diva division.

I haven't watched in a super long time and even then I was casual, but it looks like Vince probably needs to move on and WWE needs to get retooled..

They got Roman sorta over in Philly of all places and then immediately threw it away with yet another shitty promo the very next week.

Problems started when WCW and ECW collapsed. WWF had no competition until TNA and TNA was shit, so they didn't even have to try.

Ive always said that wrestling needs to be more like anime.

Funny you should say that because when I read point #5 I was thinking to myself what's left of the "creative team" should just steal story hooks from One Piece, Full Metal Alchemist and Death Note (With Undertaker being Light obviously ~_~ ).

"I used up your samoan relatives to make myself money! No one in attendance knows who these samoans are, but I used them up,therefore this is now personal, and I am an evil boss who you must eventually defeat"

Except that everyone watching knows how hard Roman has been groomed for his spot. Blah.

Oh jeez and that "You're one generation removed from having a bone through your nose" line. Couldn't believe they said that.

Another legendary quote that proves that the internet wrestling community is just a bad joke.

Think I started watching WWE way, way too late.

Yup. It was a soap opera in all the best ways. It was legitimately more entertaining then a lot of shows that were on at the time in that time slot. Monday night wrestling was an event if I'm remembering correctly. Even the bad shows still had entertaining parts. If the story wasn't that good you could always count on the wrestling itself being solid. If the WWF wasn't doing it for you that day then maybe WCW was more to your liking. The end of competition for the WWE was the beginning of the end I think.

I finally checked out around 2005 I think. I've tried going back here and there to watch. I don't mind new faces. New people is a good idea. The problem is that almost everyone is boring. The matches simply aren't good. Like the articles says it really doesn't matter if there is no cursing, etc. That's just flavor. The core of what made the old WWF/WWE good just isn't there. Or if it is it isn't strong enough pull a person passing by in.

I cancelled my network sub this month. Just got tired of it. Everything is too controlled and the guy they are pushing bombed last wrestlemania. And they are still pushing him.
