Crysis 2: PS3 performs better than 360 version

it is about time a 3rd party developer who know their shit start to show ps3 true power. :D it is a pity i gone back to pc hardware, makes ps3 look too low res, i got try out BF:BC2 and cant stand its jaggies and low fps.

So does this mean PS3 has finally become easier to develop for ala like when the PS2 finally became easier to develop for?
nah, i guess in the end, there is just a tad more possible on the pS3 if you really want to and if you know what you're doing (exclusives kinda show this).

but i doubt the two console versions will differ much.

Oh yeah? Well...... the 360 conrtoller is better!

:(

Just kidding. I really don't care about this because performance will only be slightly better. I'm not gonna go out and buy a PS3 just to buy the slightly better Crysis 2.

But how could you play the slightly inferior version of Crysis 2 knowing people with the other console are playing the same game with slightly better looking rocks?

I laughed way too hard at this.:lol

All I've ever read about crysis 2 is graphics this and graphics that, is that all they can talk about ?

I'm wondering about this too. Great graphics are nice to have, but I want to know about the other reasons I should be interested in this game. Will the gameplay and story hook me?

The game is still in development. What if the 360 version looks better while the PS3 versions performs better? this is what system warz oneupmanship has come to? Propaganda from a PS magazine?

The last line surprises me, never thought they would have more difficulty with the 360 version.
Well you've always been told the PS3 is to hard to develop for but what if the tech is now harder to get that performance out of the 360. PS3 tech when you look at it from the bottom up has the edge in some key areas. I hope they actually pack on extra textures needed with the storage size afforded to them.

can't wait until this is out so the comparison pics and framerate and tearign measurement videos are out in full force.
That would be the end of days. You see how the Final Fantasy thread turned out.

Ahh yes,PS3 superiority shananigans once again. Ghost Busters taught us nothing I guess.

I doubt this game will look better than the 360's crowning jewel,Metro 2033. Such a beautiful game.
Another one with the ghost busters crap. You really are dishonoring the Crytek people with your post. These aren't some no name devs so deal with it.

Crysis at least will have your point of view from your character's head, not his gun. :lol

Didn't bother me in Quake 1 and Quake 2. Didn't bother me in Killzone 2 either...

Not really, it just now has the installbase that warrants putting the extra time in. I think we'll see more developers leading on PS3 because it seems to result in better product quality. Until recently there has basically just been Burnout, but now there's FFXIII, Vanquish, Castlevania. I think that's going to become more frequent.

At least PS3 owners aren't being treated like shit, as often anymore. A couple of years back, it was pretty disgusting.
I think it's already started to an extent with EA. They seem to be leading a lot on PS3 these days. If not leading, then they damn sure make both versions pretty much identical. I'm just glad that games these days are closer in parity than ever before.

I only own a PS3 so when I hear news like this about Crytek, I welcome it. It was a rough time back in 2007 when most ports were pretty bad. Not much of an issue nowadays (except for occasional stuff like Bayonetta).

just curious how the OP omitted that it's from a Playstation magazine :lol
Just like how this "Crysis 2 PS3 Will Hit Graphical Ceiling" thread op also omitted that the interview is from a playstation mag..:lol

Anyway, it's possible ps3 crysis 2 might perform better but then it'll probably look worse than the 360 version. But as I noted in that graphical ceiling thread, crytek is trying to sell their engine. Don't take these articles too seriously until we see the final product.

Dabanton said:
Ok i'll agree with that but we all know how it goes. Website posts story with provocative title to get hits.

What should happen is the OP should say to himself "will this make a good thread on Gaf that will have lots of insightful discussion or will it just stir up trouble" before pressing that New Topic button.
Haha Dabanton is this thread:

I know it's a new engine and all, but I'm still surprised to hear that Cryengine 3 would perform better on the PS3 then the 360 due to the 360's superior GPU. With as GPU bound as Cryengine 2 was I would have expected the same from Cryengine 3.

StuBurns said:
This presentation mentions how final LPV rendering stage is much faster on PlayStation 3 because crytek used half-resolution rendering mode with MSAA remapping trick.

Anyway, I was just merely speculating. We won't know for sure until the game comes out.

This post does not compute? Did Major Nelson tell you this? On paper and actual performance in a machine are two different things. You may frown at this all you want but PS3 holds the graphics crown.

Our man Ryan saw just a snippet of gameplay running on PS3, and said it looked exactly the same as the 360 version.

So they both look bad I guess.

I'd be pretty shocked at that.

Lets be honest, it's going to be pretty stunning on both, I don't think the average gamer is going to compare both directly "oh my god, look there has to be nearly 20% more dust in the PS3 version! MS fail lul".

And as has been said a number of times in this thread. Both console versions will be pathetic compared to the PC version, it's like Sony and MS fighting for install base with Nintendo just laughing from the wings.

However, I do defend SKU comparisons. They are useful to people. They're unfortunately war fodder too.

PC version might look awesome, but at the same time, will it get more than 10% of sales? 15%? So not sure who is going to be laughing there.

I am looking forward seeing how it ends up looking, not taking anything for granted.

PC gamers experiencing the best version of the game, obviously. ^_^

Sure, if you care about sales, personally, I don't. The installbase analogy was just to draw the parallel of fighting for second place when first place is already so defined.

Wild statements without evidence.

Yeah.. Lets see the image quality/resolution both versions are running before jumping to conclusions.

Hilarious :lol

Yep, I can't wait for the inevitable 3000x zoom pics and resulting meltdowns.

Thats a great point actually. Pc snobs might get the best version but sony and M$ definitely will have the last laugh.

Sony shot for the sun.

and ended up hitting their feet! nice work, Ken Kutaragi sleeper cell!

Pc snobs might get the best version but sony and M$ definitely will have the last laugh.

PC snobs getting the best version is pretty much all that matters.

The PC Master Race™ will most definitely get Crysis 2: The Several Orders Of Magnitude Superior Edition.

Bu bu bu bu everything is better at 720p! For smoother textures!

I read some interviews with the story writer for Crysis 2, where he called the Halo-series' story "Bullshit" more or less, and he found Modern Warfare 2's story incredibly dissapointing. He did shove massive praise over Uncharted 2's story though, due to it being very tounge-in-cheek but still Hollywood-style.

Yerli, on the other hand, didn't fully like Uncharted 2's style, and compared the narrative of Crysis 2 with Avatar. "Fast paced and intense, but more about the world."
There was also more interviews with Yerli where he talked more about it.

That's all I could find right now.

There is so much wrong with this statement that it's almost right.

Not really console makers will get a good cut thus leading to more money for sony and m$ to fund superior console games.

This is all assuming crysis even sells well on console.

If we can be sure of anything it's that this nonsense won't be going on when the game is actually out and every attempt to compare the two versions gets shot down by PC screens.

Yeah, Richard Morgan talks a lot of smack - now he fucking better deliver one hell of a compelling story for Crysis 2 :lol

Why would I care what major nelson says? Then again why would I care whether or not the PS3 or the 360 has better performance? If I cared about IQ and performance then I would be playing this game on the PC. It just so happens I do care about IQ and performance so I will be playing this on PC. :lol Heck I haven't owned a console in 6 years and I doubt I will ever buy one again.

All I said was that Cryengine 2 is much more GPU bound then CPU bound and that I'm surprised that Cryengine 3 wouldnt be the same and thus perform better on the xbox 360. Because like it or not the xbox 360 has a better GPU.

Is that why to this very day Sony has never released the specs to their gpu within the PS3? They boasted with quite a swagger about their PS3 console yet are very quiet when it comes to gpu to 360 comparisons,no? I mean its pretty telling when they had to go to Nvidia at the last hour for a gpu while the xenon was built from the ground up as a powerhouse. I mean come on,you can't make this stuff up,facts are facts here.

You trying to boldly pass off PS3 as some sort of graphics king is laughable. Both machines are identical its just that they process things abit differently, plus Sony only chooses longer development times for game development while Microsoft choose to get the games out in a more timely fashion. Look at the run time for GT5 nowdays, five years? Come on.

If nowdays you have 3rd parties devoting more time to the PS3 as their lead platform, and having the games look virtually similar superior then that's not really saying much, its more fail than anything when you think about PS3 hardware.
