Dance Central |OT| Kinect's Killer App?

This Dance Central leaderboard rivalry is the stuff of legends.

We need a You Got Served tourney, just for the sake of it.

Pretty easy to mess with JD. Many tracks you can pass with some random waving of the remote. My 5 year old niece can happily worth through the songs without actually having to stand up. :lol

Yeah its terrible. It is the ultimate example of using imagination to complete the experience.

Yeah, JD1 especially was more of a "here, be silly and have fun toddlers and moms!" game. Nothing really mattered, the choreography was goofy, it was garbage. JD2 isn't amazing or anything but it does have better choreography and is as good at tracking and scoring as I feel Wii can be. It still comes down to a pretty bad game that can only be enjoyed with laughing groups of friends at a party for 10 minutes. There's no real game there to enjoy alone.

So not kidding. I spent a half hour beating someone's score on "Teach Me How To Jerk" this afternoon.

The choreography in this game is just so fun and unique to each song; for people of all experience levels really. Big reason why I hope the DLC has lots of new moves and doesn't just rehash existing ones or only adds one or two. That would certainly make the extra cost worth it.

Heh, wait to you log back in and check my new Poker Face score. I am so embarrassed when I go to the stat page and see how many times I've done that song. And if I weren't so sore I would have perfected it. :D

Could a tournament be done? How would that work?

Agreed. It has to me more than one or two new moves per song.

Grrr! You made me go back give it a try! I see you moved up to Hard difficulty, so I had to do the same. Didn't quite get there, but closing in (just above 800K).

I'm also quite sore; this game gives quite the workout.

With regards to a tourney, it would have to be done the old-fashioned way, since Harmonix did the bare minimum on the online front for this game. Make a tourney thread, pick a weekly song, and get pictures of scores.

On an entirely different note, I just realized, I haven't touched a non-kinect game this weekend. Oh no, I'm turning into a casual!

I was leaning towards picking up a Move bundle with The Fight in the next few weeks, but this thread is slowly moving me towards picking up a Kinect along with Dance Central.... Not sure what to do X_X

Well, the software side of that is an easy decision (The Fight isn't tearing up Metacritic at the moment), hardware is a little trickier; depends on what you think you'll be doing in the future.

I've said it a bunch of times, but Ne-Yo's Because of You is great. The moves they added were meant specifically for the song, especially at the beginning, and its great to dance to. Janet's "Control" is amazing, too. Actual Janet moves, well worth it (when it comes out on the marketplace, thanks again DJ Lushious!

Add me too. GT: Piratepwnsninja

I'm actually starting to memorize the choreography to a point that I could do it with just the music playing. But I also used to be in a show choir, so as embarrassing as that may have been in my high school years, its certainly helpful playing this game. :p

I have one beef with this game -- those long outro cinemetics. wtf is up with those? Should be a few seconds but seem to go on forever while everyone just kinda stands there and waits for it to finish so we can get back to the fun.

Freaking this.

I want to perfect "Days Go By" on HARD. I've always loved that song/video and the dance that accompanies it.

The other day my wife was like "I beat some of your friends on that one!" I said "You mean you beat their wifes/girlfriends" :lol

Game is all kinds of awesome and has no problem with a slightly small (8*8 feet) play area, meaning I don't have to move my couch to play.

Oh add me if y'all want some more leaderboard friends, we're still on easy/medium GT: bryehn

Posted this in the Kinect OT, but fits better here.

So my wife and I picked this game up Sunday morning after checking out the demo. Neither one of us can dance, and we are just fighting our way through doing all the songs on Easy. Since we can't dance, I figured this would be terrible for us. But it is so much fun. Reminds me so much of when I thought playing on plastic guitar would be stupid, until I tried Rock Band.

I just hope the learning curve doesnt become too steep. My problem now is not knowing what move the flash card is, so I watch the dancer to see the move, but then I am always a half second behind missing the flash cards. I'm sure as I play more I'll pick that up.

Sounds like you need to go through Break it Down mode first.

Yup do break it down, don't even try to follow on the first showing and just watch the move. Then you have three chances to nail it. You can also miss the first try and then go into slow it down, where they really break down the move for you and you have unlimited opportunities to try it. I find this useful for really involved moves where I just need to break down every single part separately.

I actually did pretty damn good on "Dip It Low"... I'd be 2nd or 3rd on the leaderboard right now :lol I think I'm going to have to reup my XBL Gold just to show up on the leaderboards for this game!

Like Protocol Snow said, do "Break it Down" mode first, after trying the move, you can slow down the dancer as well.

Cool, will try that tonight. Last night we were just doing dance battles working through the songs. we didnt try anything else out really. Hell, we've only had it for 24 hours now! :D

Tried out the demo for this that's included on the Kinect Adventures disc. It's fantastic, and what's better, the fiancee loves it!

Does the full version include any form of two-player mode?

Not two players at once, but there is a Dance Battle mode where you compete against one another in turns.

If you have family/friends Kinect as a whole is totally worth it IMO.

So I came into play Dance Central (at a friends house of course) pretty skeptical as I've danced for like, ever. While the routines, even on the toughest setting are CAKE, as a party game with people who can't necessarily discern the difference between dancing and REAL dancing its actually a lot of fun.

Oh and THIS is the choreography for Pokerface.

Disgrace! :p

It has been for me. I haven't even taken the shrinkwrap off of Kinect Adventures yet, all I want to do when I fire up my 360 is play this game.

I know I'll use the Kinect for more in the future, but I'm perfectly happy playing only Dance Central for now.

Me :D I would have bought Kinect as DC's peripheral, but I LOVE the game.

Edit: I should add the game does feel much like early Guitar Hero. Meaning it's screaming for additions, like online multiplayer and two players split screen. I think the 8/10 ratings it has gotten are fair, but it doesn't make me love what is there any less.

Eh....no.

No.

It's tons of fun, IF you have a group of friends who can get into it. But by itself?

You want to dance and have fun in general? Head to the clubs ^^

Yep pretty much everyone in this thread loves it and that's just the general consensus everywhere it seems. DC1 + the inevitable DC2 alone make the Kinect purchase worth it to me. But then again I have a wife and friends who this game is really perfect for, and it's equally fun to me which is a real rarity. As it stands Adventures/Sports/Kinectimals are perfectly nice little tech demos to sort of get people into the Kinect too.

I've danced for a long time and I'll say that the harder songs have pretty tough moves. There's a good variety, from reggae, locking, popping, hip hop, pop, bboying... The DLC songs are even better, Control has Janet's moves and Because of You actually feels like you're doing actual choreo.

Beg to Differ. If you like dancing, even if you can't dance, you can learn to dance from this game. I think its well worth it (think of it as buying a game plus peripheral and the price doesn't seem bad when comparing it to buying Rock Band plus instrument, as someone stated in this thread).

I've danced for 12+ yrs and I love this game. Especially now that I'm older and have more responsibility and can't "head to the clubs" like I used to...

I'd take It's all for you over Because of You anyway :p

I don't take issue with the lack of variety, I think the there is a decent mix personally.

A matter of opinion neh?

I still head to the clubs myself so maybe I'm just biased lol

As to your point, I don't enjoy Rock Band and Guitar Hero to the extent that I would purchase the game and its peripherals and the same goes for DC. I would say however that I imagine being part of a rock band holds more interest than dancing in front of a camera for some people.

Disagree completely. I've been playing it by myself since launch and it's still ridiculously fun.

And you want to play football? Head to the field. You want to race? Buy a car... ad nauseum. I go to clubs as much as the next guy, this game doesn't replicate the feeling of being in a club whatsoever, nor do I want it to. I am not doing the supah-man move in a club no matter how drunk I get.

Of course you disagree lol

Like I said before, its opinion! I'm not saying the game isnt fun, it is to an extent, however I don't feel that its $100+ fun when it isn't giving me anything I don't already have. If I didn't know how to dance or was never rhythmically inclined I suppose I could see the game as a sort of window into the unknown.

Rock Band and Guitar Hero would fit that bill for me personally, though I have no interest in playing them lol

I never said it replicated the feeling of going to a club lol

And you are right, in a way.

If I wanted to play football (I don't) I could go outside and do it.
If I wanted to race (I don't) I could hop in a car and drive.

Again, as always, its a matter of opinion.

if only i could be one of those smug morons who says lol who needs 100 friends and apparently doesn't care about online leaderboards, leagues, or really competition of any kind :/

Do we need a thread in the Competition forums? Perhaps the OP can update with folks generous enough to offer up their tags. I'd love to have more friends with Kinect on my list.

The dance offs will be a spectacle to behold!
