Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc PC |OT| It's getting Steamy in here...

So, the game+OST bundle says it costs $23.99, but when I add it to my cart it says $29.99... help?

Nevermind, I just refreshed the page a couple times and the issue fixed itself.

It's happening!

Uh what

No.

Edit: hm, you edited your post. Even so, you're still way out. My first playthrough was 11 hours.

I tend to play games really slowly to take in as much as I can. My first play through was about 30 hours. Hell in DR2 I put about 50 hours in that my first time.

yea, i also don't skip the VO which is great. maybe some guys finish it fast cuz they just read everything.

What!

How?! really, I'm confused. Is this going for 100% trophies or what? Because even DR2 only took me 12 hours on the first playthrough!

I just did my first playthrough last week, exploring and spending time with specific characters when I could, hunting them down took a bit. But to counteract that, I am a fast reader, but I still made sure to read everything. Played through on Mean as well, which changes things a bit especially without a walkthrough.

Thanks for all of the answers.
One other question: does the game have any replayability? Or is it a completely linear story?

It's linear but I've played through both three times each. So many things to miss etc. Lots of hidden content too.

You can't do everything on the first playthrough (ie. Interact with each character).

I'm a little bothered by the apparent linearity of this game. Maybe it'll grow on me like Persona 4, but that's kind of like hoping for lighting in a bottle twice.

Don't be. This is a really thrilling, tightly written story. Great mysteries and fantastic characters and hngghfhhh that soundtrack.

Were you just skipping through text? 12 hours for DR2 is incredibly fast.

It may also depend on difficulty. I played on Mean, as it was recommended to me, but that gave me a lot more incorrect answers to choose from especially later on, so more and more time was spent parsing out the answers. I don't know if Rich's first playthrough was Gentle, Kind, or Mean.

By the way, for anyone just starting, play on Mean. It's not too bad, but it makes you think a lot more.

I perrrssonally played on Mean/Mean and my final time was hovering somewhere around 15 hours.

Do you skip text, as in read it yourself? Because I wait for the Voice Actors to finish their job. This alone in a text heavy game can make a difference of several hours. I am not sure how long it took me, but I think somewhere between 20-30 hours for the first, an 25-35 for the second. I remember that the second was a bit longer than the first, but I am not exactly sure how much of this time I spent in School Mode.

Anime News Network review of the PC version

Danganronpa may not have the family-friendly reach of Phoenix Wright, but its cult status has now become undeniable among adventure game fans, and if you've ever wanted to discover its uncanny magic for yourself from the comfort of your own PC, this Steam release will definitely reward your patience. If you've been looking for a riveting mystery thriller caked in layers of shameless bombast, Danganronpa will give you hours of trigger happy entertainment.

Overall : A-
Graphics : A-
Sound/Music : A
Gameplay : B
Presentation : A

+ Striking art design, exceptional sound and score, engrossing story driven by thoughtful twists, unforgettable characters (especially the villain), game now runs and controls much smoother with a keyboard and mouse on PC
− Some clunky extraneous mechanics, some of the least likable or interesting characters stick around the longest, style may be too crass for some tastes

Not at all. I'm a fast reader though. I didn't do many free time interactions though...I left that for my next playthrough.

That would do a lot of it, then. I spent time working on one character, so I had to hunt them down most of the time.
I remember when one character actually hid on me.

I am surprised at those of you who blasted through the game like this. HLTB was definitely accurate for me, and it generally undershoots how long games are. When I try to play a game, I expect to put in more time than it suggests.

Yeah, HLTB is almost always accurate for me, give or take a few hours. Except when there's only 1 or 2 playing, then the numbers get out of whack. For a while, Danganronpa 2 was listed as 80 hours for the main story.

I skipped a bunch of voice acting in DR2 and played on the easiest mini-game difficulty and I'm pretty sure it still took me 20-25 hours to complete

same here.

DR2 took around the same time or slightly longer due to that horrid minigame which involved RNG. never again lol

The optional minigames in SDR2 are all terrible. I advise newcomers to ignore them entirely when the time comes unless they really need those achievements.

Thanks for all of the answers.
One other question: does the game have any replayability? Or is it a completely linear story?

Aside the aforementioned points, the game gives you coins at the end of each trial (I think searching the environment might also yield a few coins) that you can use in a gumball machine type thing. I think the rewards ranged from music tracks to consumable items you can give to other players. I didn't use it much because getting an item was luck based and the rewards weren't that interesting.

In the main game you'll have opportunities to hang out with a person of your choice which raises your relationship level with them. Raising your relationship enough will periodically cause them to open up to you and flesh out the character a bit. Maxing your relationship with everyone in one playthrough is impossible. Some characters require a lot of hanging out with so even with focus it's possible you might only complete your relationship with one character. That's where the alternate game comes into play.

DangonRonpa has a "School Mode", the story starts the same way but it immediately becomes a happy-go-lucky type of situation. In this mode, Monokuma (the bear antagonist thing) wants you to help him build junk and will provide a list of materials needed to build said junk. You also have to build it before a given deadline. Your job is to assign people to different tasks. Some people will have to search for the materials (success is RNG based) while others have to be assigned to cleaning because a filthy school means everyone will be forced to spend a precious day cleaning. You also have stamina to juggle so some characters will have to rest. Each character has levels for their cleaning and gathering that rise the more they do said task. This mode is probably impossible to beat the first time around, but playthroughs are quite short and your levels carry over each time so you'll eventually be able to do it. In this mode you get many more opportunities to hang out with people and is where you'll be able to get every characters full exposition. There's no punishment for failing to build something, if you can't do it by the deadline you just fail that task and are given the next thing to build. Successfully building everything is how you beat the mode.
