Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc PC |OT| It's getting Steamy in here...

they key word there is "imo"

I think it looks fantastic. significantly better than the Vita version, and of course the 3D areas (ie, the majority of the game) are natively rendered in your selected resolution.

The 3D areas i.e. the most boring part of the game ;) Sorry but nice looking boxy corridors and background furniture dont entice me.

So when booting this up on my laptop the only resolution option I get is 1536x864, any ideas why that could be? Laptop should be able to go up to 1080p by the way.

Do you by chance have any DPI scaling enabled? I just googled it and it seems to be a common problem across various programs.

How good/bad is the upscale? Anyone running it at higher resolutions have any screenshots perchance?

Here's one I just took:
E4259EEBC25CD6CA3DA026BB260FFF7A38CBA887

You can tell the 2D elements are upscaled, but the background is 3D and crisp. 60fps is nice.

Attention newcomers!!

STAY AWAY FROM SEARCHING ANYTHING ONLINE.

NOT EVEN WALLPAPERS

Play this game, enjoy the story and avoid spoilers at all costs!

Wonder if I should buy again and play on Steam. I feel like it will be much less exciting the second time since I know what happens, but on the plus side I can focus on all the little details.

And neither does 60fps?

No, not at all, to be honest it seems meaningless for a game like this

Well, that's my opinion though. You should check the screenshots on the Steam page. I'm really sensible about IQ, so there's that.

Ah good idea, hadnt thought of that, after looking at a few of them I'd agree with your opinion.

Thanks for the screenshot, the 2D elements are what I like the most and they're too blurry for my liking.

Figured out issue, it was because of DPI scaling like you said and trying to run it in Borderless mode. Game was also glitching out until i switched to OpenGL.

Welp, just bought even though I know almost nothing about the game other than the fact that people like it a bunch. Never played 999/VLR either. Should be fun times.

In for the double dip!
But I played the shit out of the vita version so I have no motivation to play through it again.
(actual spoiler)
Mukuro
is best girl.

I just can't get over the low-resolution text. I understand the character but did they lose the vectors for the font or something? Heck, even if they did, I'd actually rather them choose a new font over sticking in the low resolution one.

It makes a big difference in a game with so much reading.

Surprised to see that it's such a lengthy game, most VN's I've played up to now are usually 3-5 hours max. Does the game pace itself well over the 15-20 hours? Is it best to play in small chunks? Is it structured into chapters to facilitate this? Whats the best way to tackle it?

Really interested since I thought this was just a normal VN.

It's broken up into chapters and it has some natural stopping points to take a breather. Playing it in chunks works fine.

Would you recommend this to someone who has never played/ever been interested in visual novel games?

On the flip side, I do love me some horror/mystery themes!

If it's your first one? Sure, I think this is a good one to start with. Especially if you like horror stuff.

Definitely. I actually think this is a really good starter VN, because it's visually arresting and very well-paced. There aren't any obtuse puzzles or anything to get in the way of your progression, either.

Reverse-psychology stuff aside, you will regret googling that. ._.

It is really that bad. I got spoiled from an Amazon listing

the hentai contains spoilers

stay away from
  • merch
  • communities about it or VNs
  • pornography
  • fan art
  • official art book
  • steam discussion forums
  • ESPECIALLY DOUJINSHI

Wow... Really that bad? Guess I'm not using Google for a while than.

Anyway, anyone else have the problem where the game just rushes through all the text for no reason? I'm not pressing anything in and the game just goes at a ridiculous train speed through the text. It's all gone before I can even read the first word! :\

Yes. If you can appreciate murder mystery/thriller type movies, books, etc - this will be for you.

However, it will lead you into trying other awesome VNs.

While it's a visual novel, it also has an adventure/exploration mode akin to the Ace Attorney games so it's not just reading.

It does have mystery and suspense elements (more thriller and less horror) so yeah, I'd recommend this game, especially since this may be the definitive version of it.

So basically just play the game and don't do anything else until you've completed it.
It's the only way to be safe.

But seriously, some basic precautions to avoid spoilers wouldn't hurt, the genre thrives on story revelations.

indeed. dunno why people look up anything before playing it.

I'm watching the Kojima stream and now I'm afraid that he'll just spontaneously shout Danganronpa spoilers :(

shift fast scrolls text, so if you press it or enter the steam overlay it speeds through everything

Good thing I reassigned my Steam overlay button to Pause / Break on my keyboard. Surprised that slipped through the programmer.

My overlay key has been Home since... Forever. I mean, that's the standard overlay key that XFire, Uplay, Origin, GFWL, RSSC, and others used, so why not.

Ah well that explains is. Left Shift was a really poor choice on them, I hope they'll change it eventually or add option for custom key binding.

OS X always seems to be ignored by Japanese studios. I'm not sure why. They ported this to iOS, so it wouldn't have been that hard to use that as the basis for a Mac version. Although it looks like they've pulled the iOS version from the App Store as well? I guess the only way for me to ever play Danganronpa is to pick up a PSTV.

I'm not sure if you already got it answered, but it's up for Windows and OSX with Linux coming soon.
