Okay so any hints on what I should be doing/where I should be going after (late/end game spoiler)
I've done the Memory levels and beaten the Giant Lord? I got a key to the Drangleic "Throne Room" but if that's the room with the two large chairs, it doesn't seem to be doing anything.

Thanks in advance.

Queelag vs Najka, who is worse? Queelag is imo harder only because the stupid ass lava. If not for the lava, she'd be easier. Najkas stupid ass homing arrows wreck you on NG+.

You can go kill
Vendrick
in the crypt if you have at least 4
Soul of a Giant
.

If you want to fight the last boss, go back to
the Throne of Want
.

I'd say Queelag because of the AoE attack and lava. :/

Najka is no trouble if you dodge properly.

Najka is a cheap Quelaag imitator.

So now I'm dual wielding maces (lightning and dark) on my hex build..this is kind of awesome.

I may consider farming a bit in Dragon Aerie thanks.
No NPC sells them anyway? I remember that, at least in an early version of the game, in Dark Souls the big giant smith sold them in Anor Londo.

The stone trader chick sells 3 after you beat the game.

Yoshichan

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?
32 more hours and I get to play this shit non-stop. I'm afraid (not of dying though).

Finished
Memories of [...]
yesterday. Cool concept. :)
Also beat the fuck out of
Throne Watcher & Throne Defender
.

Defender's Shield is the best Medium shield in the game, amirite? I'm currently rocking a Royal Kite Shield (at 12 STR), but I'm willing to up to 15 STR to use Defender's.

Today I'll go for the
Ancient Dragon
and then...
for the final boss.
After that, finish
Navlaan's quest
, do a little mop up and then off to NG+.

Wow, finally got to see the Amana nerfs.
It's ridiculous.

Ha. They're pretty over-the-top, aren't they? The tracking of the spells is laughable now. I went through Amana with nothing more than a Rebel's Greatshield and a hammer my first time; sure, it was troublesome and nerve-wracking, but it wasn't 'needs-a-nerf' bad.

It's gone from the hardest area to the easiest. Unless you're a total idiot you could literally walk around aimlessly and never get hit.
edit: I also noticed they removed one of the crawlers near the 2 mages at the end of the section.

I had one encounter with her after work yesterday and she trounced me. I've never had a problem with Queelag.

Man, I just got around to checking out some network test footage, and I can kind of understand why some people were so upset.

It seems like it runs, looks, and plays better than the final product. So weird that it had to be downgraded like it was.

It 1000% did not run better. It ran awful.
And it didn't play either, there were tons more bullshit hits.

They nerfed Amana? :-/

I mean, sure, that location was the most frustrating place but it wasn't impossible by any means. I died 2 times before I stocked up on a couple hundred of arrows. The place is a cakewalk once you snipe every mage.

Just finished the game and its 4am... 5 hours straight. Too tired to gather thoughts but I will say
Dragon Aerie/Dragon Shrine
is my favorite level of any souls game. Amazing. Ending left me confused as heck though.

Just realised that the area after the
Gargoyles
where you get the bastille key is essentially a rehash of the Capra Demon boss room from DS1.

So what's up with getting the Manslayer?

I have exhausted all the dialog from the first chick. I freed the one in the castle. I talked to the other one that disappeared. I have checked and re-checked every hut to be sure. The door that is supposed to open won't open. I'm hollow.

Are you sure it's the right door? There are two doors that have specific conditions to open in Amana. You want the one after the
4th
bonfire.

Yep it's the right door.

But now I'm reading something about needing to have 0 human effigies for it to open? Everything I find seems to say you need something different for it to open. I have like 30 effigies. I'd hate to lose them all just to get the door to open (unless I can just drop them or something).

Nah, you just need to have 0 effigies to be able to pray at the shrine and regain humanity. Nothing to do with the door.

Question at fashion souls GAF: Is there somewhere a thread (I might have missed) where we share our characters? I guess I'm not the only one who enjoys the character creator. :D

So I finally got around to playing this a couple of days ago, and I'm, feeling kinda lost as to how to spec my character. I'm playing a knight focusing exclusively on melee, but I'm not sure what sword to pick. I just defeated
The Pursuer
, and I've only been using a broadsword +2 so far. Are there any good, versatile swords I should keep an eye out for? I've got the drangleic sword, but the stat requirements are high, and I've heard it's hard to upgrade, so I'm not so sure about it. Armour-wise, I've just been upgrading my original falconer set because it looks so goddamn nice, offers decent protection and is light. Would it be a bad idea to keep investing in it?

Broadsword is a decent sword. I'd keep an eye out for the claymore though - it has the best moveset of any of the bigger sword and is upgraded with normal titanite. I'm in NG++ and it's still a viable weapon at +10.

As for armour, it's all about fashion imho. Find something you like looking at and upgrade it. There are certain pieces that are invaluable for certain builds (Hexer's really don't have a reason not to wear the Hexer's hood etc), but I've always just picked something lightweight that looks good. Alva's set is a good balance between weight and defense, but everyone seems to be wearing that.

When you have to go out of the way and use arrows as a non archer class just to get through, I'd rate the area as having broken level design and difficulty. But as for the Souls games, knowledge is king. So I guess you can argue for each side.

I haven't run through Shrine of Amana post-patch but it does sound very easy.

To be honest though, archery makes pretty much everywhere easier, more so than DS1. It's more like Demon's in that respect - I cleared most of that game with hyper mode archery and the lava bow.

32 Strength, 20 Int, 52 Faith.

Do I lightning imbue my +10 Masterdon Halberd or just leave it as is for dealing with enemies who are resistant to split damage? I've already got a Lightning Claymore +10.

That leads to another interesting issue: what's the point of playing the Souls games if we cheese our way through the content? ;)

I'm not blaming you in particular. I just think there has to be a good balance in difficulty so we don't have to rely on either luck or cheesing content.

It's impossible to have complete balance of difficulty. Something caters to melee builds, something for ranged builds. Shrine of Amana was a damn lottery in terms of avoiding the spell attacks. Not quite a balanced difficulty spike. Perhaps for NG+ or whatever. Anyway, I'll stop rambling.

Oh I know I was cheesing it. I should have clarified that this was for runs where I just wanted to clear through the content with something else in mind.

Which brings me neatly onto my next topic - Challenge Runs.

I did SL1 runs in DS1 up to NG+++, and enjoyed it mostly (thank you based pyromancy and reinforced club R2 attack).

For DS2 I'm thinking about doing something a bit different so as not to be limited too much, but still keeping the extra difficulty.

I'm thinking so far:

1) Champions Covenant
2) Any class, but can only upgrade stats that make sense for that stat (so dex for swordsman, fai for cleric etc
3) Only starting weapons and armors are allowed, but can be upgraded.

I'm thinking this might add a bit of challenge back in, but also help explore the nature of starting classes a bit better. I'm thinking of going extra hard mode and rolling swordsman, as I tend to rely on parrying and ranged quite a lot. Should be a giggle.

Just wondering, does it matter if you level up if the ones that you're playing against is also a high level? And for offline play, bonfire aestics is possible, so despite being a higher level, you wont be a super undead because the enemies are much tougher. Might be a problem that there arent enough bonfire aestics though, unless its possible to buy unlimited amounts of them.

I don't mind leveling up as long as I keep a specialist build but I also want to buy items and try many weapons (upgrading them is expensive that's why I spent 6M SM and still at SL86).
Beyond SL150, builds stop being focused. The more you level up and inevitably converge to a generic build who does everything with tons of HP/Stamina/Equip load and see more and more identical players.
That's basically the big problem of SM.
Developers didn't seem to have well designed the game for the long-term and that is dangerous because a lot of people spent a lot of time on DaS/DmS because they could try a lot of thing, make specific builds and try to challenge the game and other players with what they made. We had a total control over the characters we made. Soul Memory took away that freedom from us, at least in online mode.

I know about bonfire aestics but I hate the NG+ design where they throw at you even more enemies as if NG wasn't bad enough in that regard. It's a lazy design but that's a different issue with the game.

Winter is coming.

This is probably the best character I saw in this thread.

We've been sharing them here actually.

Well then:

Razielle the Deprived (Main, SL 242)

Toadie the Deprived (Dual-Cestus Brawler)

Yilmaz the Swordsman

Can't wait for the PC version. I'm gonna drown in screenshots! :D

Edit. Bonus pic: Razielle's PVP attire (2x Greatsword +10 in Power Stance. I obviously specced for fun. I just wish I could see the face of my opponents when they see me invading. :D)

Thread title is on a whole different level of awesome.

Got like 5 or 10 hours till I finish the game, and then the PC version will come out for a new walkthrough.

Time to casul

Can you guys recommend a good Dex Weapon? I've tried a few Katanas but the don't do enough damage. Until now I've used a +10 Murakama but it's really slow and I don't like the move set. In Dark 1 I used the Scythe but they nerfed it considerably.

Also props to the thread title, really great and made me lulz.

Well, you can get an awesome ring for completing a run without dying and another one for completing a run without resting at a bonfire.
That seems like the perfect challenge to me after getting the platinum.
