So one what day should the game ship if we're to realistically expect it on the 11th?
Well.... When I found that ladder leading up to the Valley of Drakes the first time, I wouldn't say I wept with relief, but it was something close to that. If I could just have warped to Firelink, that moment would have been lost.I don't think getting stuck in blighttown was the essence of Dark Souls or that it was the thing that made the game great, but I guess YMMV.
FTFY
This was posted earlier in the thread but I have a collector's edition on preorder. My delivery estimate was the 13th. I changed the shipping from 1 day and then back to 2 day and now it's scheduled for the 11th. I also did this with that strategy guide and it worked.
Here is a quick question. Is Dark Souls I and II heavily online community based? I ask this because I have never played either and prefer to start with Dark Souls I but will it still be fun even though most of the online community will have moved on to II or should I follow the community like Fighters and FPS genres'?
Destroys a essences of the series.
Getting stuck in depths/blighttown, or catacombs/tomb of giants, or ash lake and having to fight your way out were things that made dark souls the great game it is.
I have the PS3 version. I'm not really going to talk about it yet but I'll say that the framerate isn't great on PS3. I haven't experienced anything near as bad as blighttown, but there are frequent intermittent drops that don't last long. I am sensitive to this. Long load times are a bummer because I'm dying so much. For what it's worth I don't think the warping is breaking the game. I'm going away now.
I've been helping one of my friends through Dark Souls I for the past few weeks and the community is still quite strong. He's playing on PC though, not sure what it looks like on consoles these days. I would imagine the PS3 community is still pretty active, at the least. Here is a quick question. Is Dark Souls I and II heavily online community based? Getting stuck in the Depths for hours while cursed almost made me quit the game. Somehow I kept missing the doorway down the corridor from the bonfire.

Regardless, the game is fantastic even without the online stuff.
If you could fight your way to the bonfire, you were strong enough to not get stuck. Especially when the game can be beaten at SL1.
That was the shittiest part to introduce you to being cursed. Don't have a purging stone because why would you at this point in the game? HAVE FUN!

The story and lore are quite interesting and deep but they are mostly presented through out of the way stuff like item descriptions so if you really want to get into that aspect of the game you'll have to do some digging. There isn't much in the way of cutscenes and dialog compared to most RPG's. It's a different approach but many fans of the series love it for how nuanced it is. The main draw of Dark Souls for me personally is the gameplay and world exploration, though.Great, good to hear. Honestly the helping thing isn't that important to me. I am sure I can learn fast and besides their are always tutorials and online guides if I get desperate. Is the Story any good?
They aren't tied together but you should still play Demon's Souls sometime, it's great! Personally I think Dark Souls is a significantly better game but it's a pretty loaded question, kind of like asking someone which Final Fantasy game is the best.Edit: Oh and do I need to play Demon's Soul to appreciate this or is this one significantly better?

Getting down to the first bonfire in blighttown or tog was way more easy than getting back out again.

the dude after the gargoyles sells them... and you'd go there first.

Most likely, but not definatelythe dude after the gargoyles sells them... and you'd go there first.
What, you don't buy every high-priced item that you have no use for when you come across it?Yes, I didn't say how could you, I said why would you.
Unless you play DD on PC.
So I know some people are getting different shipment dates on their orders from Amazon. I am not even getting a shipment date, just a estimate for the day I will get it. Anyone else have this come up on their order? I've never seen this on any of my orders from Amazon, so I am kind of worried.
Where did you preorder from and where are you hearing this news about getting stuck with the standard edition?
According to Amazon when I emailed them today to ask what was up with my lack of a delivery estimate for my preorder, the game is on back-order. They didn't say when it would be available. I will be extremely upset if this means that whenever it does ship, it will be the standard edition and not the black armor edition. (I am in the USA and placed my preorder several weeks ago.)
By all accounts, it sounds like someone really messed up.

Warping is going to ruin Dark Souls II just like it ruined Demon's Souls!
Oh wait...
I got a chat going with a rep to get to the bottom of the same issue and all he could say was that he expected me to get my copy on the 11th but that he couldn't guarantee it. It sounds like if you're placing your order now you are way behind a lot of other customers. IMO they don't have the stock to guarantee everyone copies on time.So I know some people are getting different shipment dates on their orders from Amazon. And? How satisfying was it when you made it?Getting stuck in the Depths for hours while cursed almost made me quit the game. Somehow I kept missing the doorway down the corridor from the bonfire.

If bonfires are as sparse as archstones, then I don't mind the warping, obviously. Somehow I doubt it though...It doesn't break the game, but… I really don't like what it does do to the game. I think people's reactions to the warping will depend on which they liked better, Demon's Souls or Dark Souls.
Demon's != dark souls.Warping is going to ruin Dark Souls II just like it ruined Demon's Souls!
Oh wait...
Nah, I think that's what he actually looks like in vanilla. Here's a few more:
Lautrec looks amazing.

Yes, fortunately you were one of the lucky ones who have managed to secure their pre-order. Like I said, I never got a delivery estimate for mine, and when I contacted Amazon to sort it out, they told me the game is on back-order so there is now no indication when my preordered PS3 BAE will arrive, or if it will arrive at all.
Everyone bashes the Dark Souls face creation, but personally I think it lets you make some good looking faces... Most people, unfortunately, will come up with shit and then bash the system.
Hoping those animu heads from Dark Souls 2 screens aren't the new standard.
For 6000 souls...
