If you go slightly to the side after you beat his nails, you can make it so he'll turn and use the straight fire breath again instead of flying up, seems like turning to face you always take priority over flying.

Some times he'll still fly, but it's easier to run from this move once or twice than it is to run from it every single time you attack him.

I didn't know this strategy before this: http://www.twitch.tv/tiopes/c/4236621

I just ran and prayed he wouldn't move while flying lol

Define "better gear".

"better stats".

Of course that depends on who you're fighting (high physical damage resist for most mobs, high flame resist for Smelter Demon or high poison resist for Earthen Peak) but higher stats will save your life. FashionSouls is great if you've poured dozens of hours into the game but I wouldn't recommend it to everyone.

Having higher defensive stats will shave off damage done and sometimes even a tiny amount is enough to save your life.

1.3 mil on NG? That's pretty high, probably end bosses.

well shit... I'm in 2.2mil territory at NG just got to
Dragon Aerie
. Spent so much time Cooping in this game lol, I have a habit of going through each new area as a summon to get the lay of the land and learn the traps before doing it myself. I'm pretty sure I'm only a few medals away from rank 3 sunbro. Surprisingly, I'm still seeing summon signs (at least in front of bosses) and can still be summoned. Guess I should move on to NG+ asap after I finish the game.

edit: Question regarding the NPC/merchant/quest dude in
Aldia's Keep. The guy wants me to kill the map dude for his helmet, is there anyway around killing him to get the helmet, or is killing him the only way? I want to finish his quest line soon, cause fashion souls, or should I just release him so that I can just access his goods. Does he still try to invade you if you've done part of the quests and can you still complete it if you release him?

Light all the bonfires on his map. You can't complete upon release.

Question. When a ring breaks can it be repaired or is it just gone? Thinking about the ring of Life binding specifically.

They can be repaired as mentioned above, but some can be really expensive to repair so I usually unequip them when I know they might break due to acid or whatever.

After playing both DS1 and 2 as STR builds, I'd like to finally try out sorcery as I've never even tried to cast a pyromancy spell in DS1. Any decent "idiot's guides" out there for sorcery? The thing is, I'm at the end of NG+ so I suppose I have access to a lot of sorceries and have a lot of them in my inventory as well.

If I'm getting this right, putting spells into atunement slots at bonfires puts them in the dpad up list and then you need a staff/chime to actually cast the spell. I have a
Black Witch's Staff which enables to cast sorceries, miracles and hexes
so I guess that's a good staff choice? Another thing is, do spells basically work as consumables so, for example, every time I want to cast more lightning spears I have to buy/find them? Btw I killed
Felkin
earlier on without thinking so I guess hexes are off the table until I find him again in NG++.

Magic uses act like Estus Flask uses, you have a limited number of uses but they recharge when you rest at a bonfire. There are also consumable items available that can recharge spell uses if you run out in battle.

It can be repaired by any blacksmith

Thanks guys. I'll probably just throw it on if I need to protect a bunch of souls or something.

I play pretty aggressively all things considered. I die quite a bit. I don't do as well in a defensive battle with dual swords. lol

Nah, you can use it as much as you like. Since equipment durability is restored at bonfires it rarely breaks outside of specific situations like being hit by acid etc. I basically didnt take the Ring of Binding off from the moment I found it till the end of the game.

Oh wow, ok, thanks! :) Somehow I didn't realize they recharged at a bonfire.

Haha! Just invaded some guy in the Luna Bell Tower who dropped glowing lights around everywhere (I don't even remember how to do that). I followed the breadcrumb trail down one of the holes, only for him to pop out of his polymorph and lightning spear me in the back.

Died instantly, but I was pretty amused

God damn they really want to punish players who enjoy helping Bros out with boss fights. My new character is SM 2.2 and I barely get any summons

Jeez, Heide's Tower is a bevy of activity. Red signs everywhere, invasions are non-stop. Fuck, I just wanted to shoot some spells and test cast speed differences between staves/chimes, animations and damage. #theorycrafting tonight. Though I think I've had enough of hexxing and sorcing, might go back to melee with Pyro as a backup, just for PvP.

Mostly jerks with katanas, too. Yawn.

lol are you a sun bro? I seem to get more summons as a sun bro than any other covenant. Also get more summons if I put my sign a bit further away from the fog door too (so its not cluttered with the rest)

This reminds me of the story of the executive who passed on signing a deal for Demon Souls because he couldn't get past the beginning dungeon and therefore concluded the game was crap.

Ive had my issues with the game, i think alot of it feels rushed and incomplete, from graphical glitches/clipping/being able to see through geometry, to the graphics just being awful at times, theres some extremely crap levels, some things are even more obscure than DeS/DS1 and it seems like its obscure just for the fuck of it, but even still, i wouldnt give it anything less than an 8. 7.5 at its lowest.
A 5/10 is clickbait from an incompetent reviewer

It really is. The difference between the early game armors and Dragnelic armos is staggering.

boo this man.....

...nevermind. boo THIS man.

Being the 3rd entry to a rather successfully franchise, what made you think they were going to make this entry MORE accessible? Come on.

So, yeah. I just bought this, last week. I am glad that gamestop had a good deal for trade ins last week. Because I sold my PS3 version, and have not looked back. Two to three second loads between areas? Two to three second loads between areas. :) That, and the fact that at 60 fps, I find my character consistently doing what I input, instead of dying. It is a good feel.

Haha. So how about that greatsword? That thing is soooo heavy. Practically have to strip to use it. Awesome base damage though. Should be great for reinforcing? Kind of ruins my dual wielding stance so far though.

For people having issues with the Ancient Dragon, just grab Glover's Ring from the Shaded Woods using NG+. This gives you 5 free hits on your back. Just turn away from his breath, take the hit and keep fighting.

SM should really only be a factor in NG. The arguments for the inclusion of SM are thin at NG, but fall completely flat once you enter NG+.

Once in NG+, everyone has access to the same gear and spells. Just go by SL at that point so you don't fracture the community. Anyone >200 SL is matched together regardless.

Why would someone banish you just before helping them finish off a boss? Just to be a dick or do they benefit from that?

I once was Sun bro'ing and escorted a guy through Iron Keep his first time and made sure he got all the loot. Then he banished me at the Smelter Boss door. Asshole!

I find it to be annoying even in new game. I used to get summoned as a BellBro in Lost Bastille constantly....throughout my time in Iron Keep? Only once.

I don't believe my SM is crazy either.

OK I am stuck. reached the third bonefire in the land of the giants(?) stage and I have no idea where to go. Everywhere is a dead end and there are a ton of those turtle enemies around.

I really want it removed/reworked in NG too though. Really annoying that I can't easily make a character to co-op/invade a specific area like I could in the other games. The only people who win with this system are hackers because they can get whatever they want with low soul memory.

Maybe NG can search based on SM primarily, but if it doesn't find anything it should fall back on a level range. It's crazy that the main condition for matchmaking is something that you don't have too much control over.

Preaching to the choir. I imagine From/Namco is watching the data. We just need to make sure they hear us and do the right thing.

You mean where you
meet the cartographer? I think there's pretty much nothing more in there, besides him, and a few items. You basically just have to either climb back out, or bonfire.

You're done with the area. Head back to Majula and find another route

Just lost almost 80k souls, first time I lost such an amount. it was a little over two level ups.

Did you fight the Pursuer? If yes there's a nest in the area after the boss fight that takes you to a new area. You can also go back to Majula and enter the underground sewer on the right of the bonfire. There should be a rope you can pull to open the gate into a new area.

Finally starting to make some headway once I found the Bastard Sword in Fallen of Fallen Giants. However, I just got the Drangleic Sword now. I think I might be using this guy for awhile.

Anyway, I've been Shadowplaying most of playthrough. I think I'm going to upload all my boss kills. Here's the Pursuer fight.

If you're talking about the Soldier's Rest bonfire, that area is indeed a dead end for now. If you've beaten the first boss of the game, use the key you got to open doors you couldn't before. You can also go back to Majula and go through the stone archway to the right of the big Mansion and cat's house (I think).

Hey guys, I need some help. I have a 38/38 int/fth build (I lowered the requirements of GLS to 38), which mostly concentrates on hexes and pyromancies, but I wanted to add miracles to the mix as well. Seeing as I'm nowhere near 50 fth, I can't switch to the dragon chime. That said, I'm now torn between the Priest's chime and Witchtree bellvine.

The reason for that is that my Dark BNS is quite a bit higher than my lightning BNS, but I don't have any scaling calculator available, so I'm a bit torn here. Witchtree has A/B Fth/Drk scaling, while Priest's has S/C. However, considering I have a higher dark BNS, I'm not sure whether I'd benefit more from B dark scaling than I would of S lightning scaling.
I'm mainly working towards getting GLS for its almost infinte range, so I'd also like to choose the best possible chime for this. I doubt I'll increase these stats any further due to the diminishing returns.

Edit: Nevermind. Tested it out myself. Priest's Chime is better.

Was it better in raw damage? Or you just prefere the Priest's one because the casting speed.

I started a cleric yesterday, and I am already regreating investing three titanite chunks in improving the Cleric's Sacred Chime to +7, Priest's seems to be a much better option.

I also vote for the complete removal of Soul Memory.

I want to keep doing low level Co-op. Help people out to clear early bosses and levels, enjoy my most favorite aspect of the game without having to constantly start a new character that will only be effective for a certain amount of time until he meets a dreaded Soul Level cap that limits my interaction with newbies.

It's really detracting as a mechanic. Stick it to SL alone and let people have all the fun they want.

It's really stupid that one (un)practical solution for PC users who want to permanently do Co-op involves constantly backing up and deleting their save file as soon as SM gets too high.

Save file with an expiration date.

When Dark Souls 1 gets a Steamworks patch, I plan to make a ~SL25 character to help people all the way through the game.

As the franchise's popularity grows we'll see more and more of this. A lot of people will try to get into it because everyone's talking about it and of course there will be a lot of people pointing out stuff like this since they go in expecting the usual hand holding they're used to. Fortunately this will also expand the fan base but there are only so many people out there willing to get into a game like this so the percentage of newcomers that will react like him will get bigger and bigger.

I beat the Smelter Demon last night, and boy oh boy was he broken lol. After I finally beat him, I tried doing some sunbroing at his boss door. There was one coop instance where the user entered the fog gate and I was slashed in the face through the fog gate by the Smelter Demon before I even entered haha.

Does anyone here have any experience with the Smelter Demon's Ultra Great Sword? What are you opinion's on it for PvE and PvP? Should I invest Petrified Dragon Bones into it?

The Smelter Demon's armor is butt ugly, but it has great physical and fire defense, and it's lighter than Havel's armor.

I want to get my STR up to 45 so I can one hand the sword and Havel's shield.

Edit: What's up with the Pursuer that pops up in his room? Why is he soo strong? My Great Club was taking very little damage off of him.

Same deal here :). I really wish Dark Souls was as effective as the sequel for summoning; I think I have clocked over 80 hours in that game and I only could summon 2 people and got invaded twice.

Hopefully, Steamworks will inject new life into the original. Count me as one of the most excited for this to happen.

It may take a little while but his attacks are fairly telegraphed and easy to dodge, was using an Uchigatana at the time.

Best part is how close a bonfire is to him so its quick to retry.
