For you guys who are enjoying the game, last night i saw a couple of screencap in the Playstation Gaf community and its looks very nice. I'm thinking on pick the game when is in the $40 range. SO.. what do you think is this game get a 2 player coop mode, do you it like a fun adding ?
Only have to hunt down four or five more hordes to be at the level cap and then the Platinum will be mine.
Seeking them out post game is super fun. You also unlock new weapons from beating them. Already got an auto shotgun and some big ass magnum.
Bend nailed the pacing and progression system so well in this. Crazy how pussified I was to take out even a minor horde like the one in the train cars at the beginning. Now, I feel like a fucking Terminator unloading a 110 bullet clip of the giant Russian LMG into a group of 100+ charging at me.

Hmm, its such a strange game because of the variety of game play and flow of the game, and its massive. The first 10-15 hours or so is almost its own game kind of like a bare bones survival horror MGS or something, at least to me. The other 3/4ths is more of a Red Dead Redemption 1 feel, more action adventure, the zombies will scare you but you start to get over powered as well towards the end so even the hordes are not as hard. Judging by some of the reviews, people on this forum and reddit... I would say most people like the back half of the game more than the beginning.... if anything some people really dislike the beginning of the game. I'm kind of the opposite, I love it all but to me the front half is a more unique experience. But the issue there is.... is barebones survival horror going to sell? Its a more limited audience.
As to your question, yes, there is opportunity for co-op and mp in future releases. I'm not sure it makes as much sense, if they stick with the game play in the back half of the game because to me its more story based like RDR, but I don't know. The beginning of the game to me opens up the possibilities much more i.e. survival horror with bare bones and more opportunity for co-op. There are all kinds of opportunities for MP in future releases.... literally a person could spend all day coming up with MP modes for this, as the base game is huge and the mechanics are already there for the most part.

Yup, I think so too.
And that feeling of progression extends to other elements - be it gameplay or not (bike but also story, characters).
Just to develop the bike thing, in the beginning the gas tank is so tiny you are very limited in your travels forcing you to go back if you want to play safe or if you press on you know you can't actually backtrack and you will have to find a way to refill on top of your current task. It participates to the hostility and pressure of the game world in the early game.
It also limits fast travel as some points are too spread out, forcing you to "go through that tunnel again".
Alright, I have finished what I believe to be the campaign and saw the credits roll. I also
met Ricki and Addy at Iron Mike's grave
which I think may be the "secret ending" I have heard discussed. This has been a fantastic journey and I can't wait for more content!
I will get the negatives out of the way first. Just like most narrative driven open world games there are WAAAAY to many forced walking sequences. In this game it felt like Deacon would walk slower than the person he's supposed to be walking with so it felt really crappy wishing I could keep up with Sarah for example but instead I can barely keep up. The "forced stealth" auto fail follow missions were also generally terrible except for the fact that it was relatively easy to just crouch and quick walk through them. There is also a ton of jank and the framerate dips in certain areas. I played on a pro and would be afraid to play it on an OG ps4. There are certainly more negatives but all of this is very minor in how it affects my view on the game.
The positives for me in this game are attached to the characters, world and story. I love a good narrative driven game. Last gen TLOU was my standard bearer in this genre and so far this gen it is Days Gone and RDR 2. I am a fan of endearing jank in games as well and I am going to list jank as a positive too. Some of the glitches that occurred were so hilarious that I was laughing at times that I would be raging in lesser games. A lot of this is tied to the fast reloads after death and the generally great checkpoint system during missions.
Deacon St. John may be a terrible name but his character transcends this and is one of my favorite protagonists in a long time. The mocap for the cutscenes was really well done and Sam Witwer does a great job bringing him to life.
I was born and raised in Oregon and having a game based here has kinda been a childhood dream so to speak and they really nailed it. I would love for a sequel where they have to travel to the Oregon coast or even north to the Portland area as well. There is such a vibrant world to explore here in the Pacific Northwest and I really hope that they get more opportunities to explore this world.
Lastly, I cannot fathom how this game was legitimately given a 5 on any review scale. As others has said better than I can, this game isn't up to par with TLOU or God of War in terms of presentation and such but despite some of the harsh transitions, bugs and general jank it is a fantastic game and story-wise is every bit the quality of other Sony exclusives.
Thank you Bend Studios for this amazing game! This game is why I buy Sony consoles. Best single player narrative experiences around!
I'd love to either see them visit nuked Portland or move east to
Reno to reconnect with Corie
The one major gripe I had that was constantly bugging me was how loose the weapon wheel felt particularly when it came to selecting throwables and craftables on the fly or otherwise. It just didn't feel tight at all compared to something like Horizon.

I'm selfishly hoping they keep it in Oregon if there's a sequel but I will play it and love it no matter where they go. I definitely agree on the weapon wheel although at times it was also a life saver. Holding it down to heal while the game is in slo-mo saved my life many times for example. Being able to craft needed things in the moment I need them (like a molotov) while running was a great feature but I think they could have implemented it a little cleaner.
If you already beat the game just complete the NERO story line (I guess, you can find some answer on youtube, but if I remember is that way) and there you go. Don't gonna break the emotion because IMO the epilogue is the best part of the game. Just keep driving with your bike and will gonna find out

How would I trigger this? Spoiler it if it might ruin it for someone else please.

Thanks guys! This is actually another thing that I feel has gone unmentioned mostly but the fact that I am still getting to continue the storylines and that I am even getting calls on the radio in the end game is awesome! Most games feel dead to me from the moment I beat them but I still want to go and clear hordes and see what other story touches I missed along the way.

There was an unmarked extra marauder quest at Diamond Lake that I found after I completed the main story, all infestations, camps etc. Make sure to check it out. Go talk to the dude that takes Corie's place.
So I don't understand why there aren't functioning cars in the game. I understand that most of the roads are blocked off but as we see that many of those are not that bad and can be cleared up except the ones which are broken. Even the off road bypass are not that small in some areas and can support a compact car easily. So I did not buy the reason that was given in game about not using cars. Long stretches of roads were just fine and connected some good areas with resources.
We see that they were able to drive a huge ass truck from northern to southern region without issues so using a small car to do supply runs should have been feasible and more safer compared to just using bikes. Maybe use a car and two bike escorts for supply/scavenging runs.

That is the in game explanation but the environment does not support it fully. As we see in the game, several stretches of roads are still good connecting to areas with gas station, stores etc. for resources. The off road bypasses are also wide enough to drive a small car. Fuel also seems to be abundant even though in game people claim its scarce. I am not saying cars would be used fully for transportation like bikes but at least for some areas.
Bikes have advantages but also have some disadvantages. Like it can slip and throw you off if you come under surprise attack from anyone (which happens far too often in game), has limited capacity for supply runs, does not protect you in case it breaks down etc etc.
Agree, it does seem a little far-fetched that no one uses cars, ever. But there are plenty of things that are far-fetched. I think it's best not to think too hard about it, lol.

It seems far fetched that they are getting the dam working in The Last of Us and there is only one use of a car, if I remember which was a cut scene. And apparently the zombies took all the bicycles as well, and only one instance of a horse being used... why not ride a horse or a bicycle the whole way? Why does a bullet do damage to the Master Chief but falling through the atmosphere and hitting the ground like a comet does no damage? (I'm with you, a little too much thinking)
Possibly my favorite open world game. They nailed so many things. Hordes, in particular. I wish they respawned over time.
I spent like 8 hours just doing the sawmill horde early on, with level 2ish guns. Died so many times, but it didn't matter. I'd love to do it again decked out.
Story was fantastic. Loved each town. Loved the way they handled pretty much everything, really. The few issues I did have are nothing compared to the overall goodness.
I dont even know what to play next... worried it will feel hollow. I have gow so maybe that has a chance of holding up.
A 9 or 10/10 for me. It'll be in my top 10 at end of gen for sure.
So the mission 'The Rest of Our Drugs' has glitched out on me. I've knocked the dude off his bike and the cut scene has played but the mission doesn't end and there's no further missions on the map, the game is technically broken now and I cannot progress any further.

there is not one save file so just start with save file from before. And we need to save game more anyway . i did just in case.
i never thought this game will be this good. i thought Horizon its one of best open world 3rd person action adventure games, but this came really close to be one of best in that line, its different buts very good and thankfully not too much action and shooting just enough to satisfy that need.
Yeah all depends on the publisher. Square Enix games for example tend to go on sale about 2 weeks after launch. They prefer the majority of their sales in a short window. Maybe for headlines or investors or their crazy sales expectations.
Mortal Kombat came out the same time as Days Gone and has had one sale in the UK I believe.
Seems like the last few sales haven't had many big hitters (the double discount one at the moment is especially dire in terms or recent releases).
I don't think it will be too long, fingers crossed. Not like there isn't much to play in the meantime .
I'm really enjoying the story so far. I'm probably about halfway through. I've heard it drags out at the end, so my overall opinion may change after I've finished, but as of now, I'm really happy with how good the storytelling is. I'm surprised. I've gotten choked up half a dozen times in the last 5 or 6 hours of playtime, which is not something I was expecting.
I just finished this part:
Finding a dog to give to Boomer, to restore his sense of meaning/purpose in life. Loved that.
GotY, lol.
Granted, there are some cheesy moments in the story. For instance,
When Deacon finds out from O'Brien that Sarah is likely dead. Boomer asks him what he learned, and he says he doesn't want to talk about it. Boomer then punches the shit out of him, knocks his ass in the dirt, in order to get him to "open up," which he does. Then Deacon chuckles and they are best buds. It was a lame sort of scene I'd seen too many times in TV shows.
But overall, I'm really liking the story. I wasn't expecting it to get me emotionally invested, but it has. I like these characters and care about what happens to them (well, some of them). It took me a while to warm up to Deacon, but he's a good man.
Yo this game is looooooooooong. I really thought I made great progress when I reached Lost Lake.......ha ha....hahahahaha no. Feels like it was just the beginning. The crazy thing is it feels too long but the story keeps taking a turn that hooks me! Even my wife has been watching me play and following along with the story while asking questions.
The game isn't perfect, sure but there's no way in hell this should be a 5 or 6 out of 10. It's a solid 8 for me so far and well worth the $60 i spent.
i didint like army area for many reasons ... mostly for they crap that they give and doing nothing and you doing all their work..i mean cmon they trained soldiers and they shit compare to you ....
Well, finally finished on Wednesday. I'll stick with my initial impressions, a 9-10 epic game with minor stuff wrong, knocked down for technical issues. There can be some criticism on bunches of stuff, but the game is so massive its hard to compare with something else. It's huge. If I was a real reviewer, I would give it a 8.5 to let people know there are technical issues but other than that its very hard to compare this with some other game. Its so massive in area, gun play, mechanics, situations, etc. just no other game really like it.
8.5/10 but really a 9-10 game with technical issues, I don't think everyone is going to have the same experience. I actually prefer (most people probably don't agree) the first 10-15 hours as its more of stealth horror/msg/survival type game, but the back portion was good as well, but some points probably could have been left out. I have this in my top 5 best single player game experiences ever.
Surviving Isn't Living / Something to Heal His Soul mission. You have to go and meet Addy at the infirmary however I walk to the triangle and nothing happens. Have tried re-loading, have tried going back to the previous mission etc. Also there are no other missions in my list to do, so the game is effectively dead.
Is there a way past this? I've tried numerous saves.
I've got to complain about some of the scenes between Deacon and Sarah. I know they're supposed to come off playful and humorous, but sometimes they just grate on my nerves. Aside from the fact that it's a bad boy + nice scientist girl tale, the witty banter between them is just ... urgh.
And why am I walking 20 feet behind her? I started moving as soon as I could, and I'm still stuck 20 feet behind her... I'm supposed to be a badass, not some schlub tagging behind.
Minor gripes. I'm still enjoying the overall game very much.
