Dead Rising 3 created "to go after the Call of Duty player"

You won't be needing this, DR!

Just from that smidgen of gameplay I saw I knew it was over for Dead Rising

  • no more bright colors, only doodoo brown
  • Might still have the humor, although it's seemingly darker in tone
  • No coffee creamer
If I can't drink a gallon of coffee creamer in this game, it may as well not get made.

So, basically, they've ruined it. I only played the first game, but I thought the appeal was the esoteric Japanese design philosophy under the zombie veneer? It was basically an old-school arcade game in terms of design. But it had a fun, fresh take on zombies in a shopping mall layered on top...

I had a strange feeling of disconnect watching the DR3 demo Monday but I couldn't put my finger on it. This helps explain why. It's basically not DR anymore.

I don't think it necessarily looks bad, it just isn't Dead Rising. For someone who wants a zombie game then this looks pretty good. For someone who wants a Dead Rising game...yeah...

This was pretty obvious from the E3 presentation demo.

"In this game, everything and anything is a weapon!" (picks up gun)

There was no weapon in that demo that was "fun" and "creative". Wrenches, bats, guns and saws. My favorite part was when the main character picked up an industrial buzzsaw that was on the floor of a boxing gym for some reason.

Fuck this industry. The fun and "cartoony" feel of the game were the reasons to get into Dead Rising (2) you silly, silly men. Ugh. Thanks for ruining yet another franchise developers.

Call of Duty players play Call of Duty

good luck selling another dull zombie shooter to your imaginary demographic

Yeah, the time management is the core of what Dead Rising is about. It is where all of the challenge comes from and where all of the game's meaningful decisions come into play. I just don't see how you can strip it out and end up with a fun game. There is going to be Nightmare Mode, but I am still wary, since the main game won't have the time restraints. If the gameplay was built around the main mode, then the Nightmare Mode could end up being tacked on and sub-par.

It is possible that the Nightmare Mode is what they originally intended for the game and the main mode is the later addition, but I can't see the game ending up very good in that case, unless the two modes have radically different game balance.

Hahahah.

I could see Capcom changing their tune and making the next trailer filled with some silliness. I guess we'll see how it plays out.

Capcom is making all the wrong moves. I mean, holy shit, not every one of your franchises is going to sell 25 million copies. Is Street Fighter not successful enough? Was Resident Evil not successful enough?

Damn.

Fuck that, I want double chainsaws strapped to a paddle strapped to a motorcycle that I ride wearing only my underpants.

RIP Dead Rising. I loved the more Cartoony look. I loved the way it was. They're basically making an entirely different game and trying to call it dead rising.

Someday I'll get a zombie game that compares to the first Dead Rising. That would have been great if they just had a freeplay mode with no timers no running out of things. That was the only thing the first was truly missing. If it had that it would have been perfect.

Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrghghghghhhhhhhhhghghhghhghgghggh

The most depressing thread title all month. More so than Xbones DRM shenanigans

They player base that's like a tenth of CoD's, if that?

So alienating your fan base that you have built up over 2 games and going after another one that has proved in the past it won’t buy other franchises made to feel more CODish is the way to go, So they risk losing both and pleasing no one

This has, unfortunately, become a tradition for Capcom.

Whereas all the ex-Capcom people at Platinum are all about realising what it is they do best and trying to do it as well as they possibly can. Even if you're not a fan of the company or their games there is something to be said for knowing your strengths, knowing your market, and playing to that. As well as knowing that you aren't going to please everyone.

The problem with these changes in direction isn't so much the change in direction, at least from a design and marketing standpoint, but when you still think you can somehow wing it and pull the old audience along with you. Some companies seem terrified of saying, "Look, those games were great but we wanted to do something different this time."

What the hell are you talking about? Find me a quote that RE4 was chasing a popular demographic.

re4 was a shooter, that's a quite popular demographic for me.
Tdead rising has never been something else than killing lots of zombies and That's what i saw in the video. Now we have a city, instead of the same closed mall bullshit. I can deal with some crap if it doesnt limit the survival aspect. I dont think you will be calling airstrikes so often like cod.

Dude Rising.

Still might check it out, it's not like it had an ultra serious tone, although I hope there's an alternative method for calling air strikes or avoiding them altogether.

This is not Dead Rising. Dead Rising is killing zombies in a skateboard while wearing a MegaMan costume. Humour is the basic pillar of the franchise, but it seems that's gone. Such a shame.

This is the ultimate anti-Neogaf statement a PR can release.

The game looked really bad to me, from the brownish look to the lifeless scenarios. The last one seemed infinitely more fun than this.

Very thankful this is an Xbone exclusive, don't even want it available for purchase on my platform.

Dead Rising was unique, a lot of people liked it. Now they'll spend $92892849284948 on a game trying to appeal to COD fans, it'll "bomb" (only selling 3 mill), then we never see Dead Rising again.

I was a little upset this was Xbone exclusive when it was announced.

Now I kind of just hope it fails spectacularly. Hasn't the industry already bent over backwards ENOUGH for the Call of Duty crowd? What about the rest of us?

Half the fun of Dead Rising was its irreverent, self-aware nature. Take that away and you just have a generic zombie-killing game...and we already have way too many of those in the industry as it is.
