Dead Rising |OT| Chop Till You Drop Remastered

The loading times definitely make the game way less frustrating. It used to really suck when you had 6 survivors trailing you and loaded a new area, didn't realize one of those survivors was left behind, and had to go back to the old area. Woof.

And the survivor AI still frustrates me sometimes. It can be fine or just terrible. For instance on my initial go I was just leveling up and seeing what I could do. I did the first missions with Brad and then picked up Aaron, Leah, and Sophie (I killed Burt by accident). I had zero problem getting them all back to the safe house (through the garden with convicts after 7PM) and I called them to follow rather than directed them to a location. I wound up dying at Adam and just decided to start over because I hadn't hit level 10 yet. I was level 14 when I got to those survivors again. Everything that could go wrong, did, and multiple times. I had to reload 6 times to finally get them all (including Burt this time) to the safe house. I was was directing them to locations rather than calling them to follow. For some reason Aaron just kept fucking everything up (seriously Leah is better at getting through zombies) and Burt wanted to fight everyone. And the convicts were actually navigating the open space with ease.

I just played through DR2 OTR and DR3, and as much as they made things too easy and really removed any tension, they also improved mechanics in reasonable ways. The double tap dodge is hideous. The survivor AI in 2 is a good balance. Indicators that survivors are close enough to make it through to the next area. If you are carrying a survivor you hold onto them in the next area rather than drop them. The arrow is better at navigating in 2. Gun mechanics are better (although really they are fine in 1) They either lessened or removed the stun animation/recovery (maybe not a plus for some). I think zombies were slightly less grabby in 2 (although 3 they are the worst). There's a lot of little things that made the experience in 2 better for me. I still do love 1 though.

certain aspects of the survivor AI I'm okay with. Some break down in the middle of a horde, some try to fight, etc. That's understandable. It's realistic. They panic and do whatever.

What I hate is when they get stuck on terrain during their pathfinding. That's just crappy programming. One of the twins you find in Paradise Plaza temporarily got stuck in one of the pools of water until I reset a waypoint, and while this was happening the glutton from the sandwich shop had apparently gotten stuck upstairs in a running animation (I didn't get to see it up close, just through his offscreen marker).

To be honest that's basically DR1, once you are all leveled up and knows the mall inside out.

Ignoring all the level design and structuring of the game (lol), roughly 20 hours into the game at max level after mastering the mechanics and using a highly esoteric cheese recipe, Dead Rising can be roughly zombie warriors mechanically speaking according to you.

vs

Picking up the dragon combo within an hour of starting the game, being lvl 50 within 3 hours (and that's being generous), and thus being able to slaughter multiple thousands of zombies in one combo who's game and level design are strictly focused purely on zed kill count.

Yeah, I'm sorry but I just see how the two are comparable at all.

If anything, it's more pathetic that the guy is attempting to drum up drama over this, throbbing anger erection in hand at the thought of accusing "SJW's" yet again. And he's not even right anyways. Guy is a twat.

Honestly, I didn't even notice the "boob" physics until re-played the video and noticed it was just the top cloth of her outfit moving. *yawn* Much ado about nothing.

I was actually browsing Steam Community forums to remove the DOF effect, I believe it's just a low quality DOF effect that smears the IQ slightly.

But now I must pick up my pitchfork against the SJWs and politically correct peoples.

Yea the pathfinding is a real issue. I told Aaron and Burt to go behind one of the counters in the jewelry store while I talked to Leah, and they could not get the hell out of it. By the time they did get out of it, a horde of zombies had built back up. It was frustrating to say the least.

The ia is intolerable, patience got exhausted fast with a group of 4.
I'm a bit demotivated because I finished the first case serie (1-), was running out of time and when complete I lost lot of 2- cases, I don't understand the pacing.

Boob Physics removed is one of the top discussions on the Steam forums lol, haven't seen it mentioned at all in here.

Assuming this is your first playthrough, you're always going to run out of time because you're too low level. The game is replayable. You can start over and keep your upgraded stats/skills, which makes things exponentially easier. But yeah, the survivor AI is dogshit, unfortunately. One thing I will say is that waypoints can help, instead of just having them follow you.

OTR is basically DR2 with an extra area, a better protagonist, improved balancing and modified story elements. If you care about canon, play 2 first. If not, might as well just go straight to OTR.

I beat 2 a while back. Never played OTR.

I don't care about canon.

Ahhh... gonna play it freely then.

Did they ever say why Case Zero and West were not included in the release?

I don't think they've ever said anything official, but I can speculate.

Porting the extra DLC would have cost Capcom more money, which would have impacted their margins. Capcom likely came to the conclusion that only a small percentage of potential consumers would ignore the product entirely without the DLC.

Hoping someone can do a respawning food mod so we can just hang out in Infinite Mode...infinitely

I imagine it's just a matter of changing a value or two here and there.

I wonder if he's going to keep the mod's single save point to the security room or if he's going to extend it to the other save points. I actually like the idea of the security room being the only save point. It balances the mode. That way you still have to go out into the world and risk death for food, but you can save if necessary.

Hey hey hey! I like Frank as much as anyone but Chuck is the best.

A man with a face of stone and a cute daughter what else do you need.

Unless this has been posted already...

PROTIP: You can make chopping zombies pretty easy by getting 3 books and then defeat Adam and pick up his Small Chainsaws.

Entertainment Book- Bachman Bookstore - Paradise Plaza
Engineering Book- Bachman Bookstore - Paradise Plaza
Criminology- Sir Book a Lots - Wonderland Plaza, Second Floor

These bad boys never break!

Thanks for tip! What's hard starting off is that your inventory space is so small that I don't know what's worth carrying. I'm such a defensive player that I carry more health items, but I'm not sure if I should switch that up because I want to carry at least one firearm and some weapons that won't break so fast.

Just take one coffee creamer or orange juice. You'll frequently come across lower-end health boosters like snacks, which you can use on the spot if you need to. Also, you can throw trash cans to get some food or a weapon. Comes in handy in the Wonderland Plaza, where food is a lot more rare. Three magazines for the chainsaw is a good idea when you've got enough inventory spaces. Before then, you don't really need all 3, because the chainsaw respawns whenever you re-enter the plaza, which is a lot easier when you've got the shortcut unlocked.

This pretty much entirely breaks the game, but it's a whole lot of fun.

A personality, for starters.

Edit: Ah, that came out a bit disingenuous. Chuck's got personality, but I always felt he was a little bit too "heroic". Like he's as straight-laced as a protagonist as you can get. Tough father-figure, just trying to make sure his daughter is taken care of, gotta clear his name, just wants to help, rides a motorcycle (dirtbike, but still). He's too built up as a macho hero for my taste. Frank, on the other hand, is a sleazy dick who generally puts himself ahead of others, who tends to help mostly if he can get something out of it. He's not a total asshole to the point where he's unlikable, but it's refreshing to see someone a bit more "human" compared to the action hero Chuck. It's like Die Hard 1's John McClane vs Die Hard 4's John McClane.

I'm uh.... not sure what I expected.

I mean, it makes sense given how DR1 ended, so it's not like they had to stretch.

I much prefer Chuck's story for DR2, but I do prefer most of the elements that OTR has for its endgame. I felt like reveal in DR2 got to be a bit too mean-spirited with how the tone of the story was handled otherwise, and the non-Overtime final boss was a dud. I think the non-Overtime boss of OTR goes waaaaaay too out there, but I think it handled everything else really well and made me wish that's how it would have largely played out for Chuck.

I'm still trying to figure out if I love this game or hate it, even though I completed it years ago when it first came out. The zombie killing and overall feel of the game is better than most of the sequels, but the awful survivor AI and frustrating bosses make it feel like a chore at times. I don't mind the game being difficult, but I feel like it's difficult for all the wrong reasons.

Oh wow I didn't expect the post-credits stuff in DR1 to be so involved. This is a really nice surprise.

Frank needs Zombrex for himself instead.

They also make a really big change to the end game that involves a different reveal and a different character being killed off.

And neither ending makes a lick of sense. They're both dreadful.

I had forgotten just how over the top amazing the psychos are in DR1. Just got to Steve, he's fucking great. I DON'T ALLOW VANDALISM IN MY STOOOOORE!!!

This is hard to follow since I never played OTR and hardly remember 2's story.

What is the cheapest price on this currently? I really want it but I don't really have any money.

This was the game that made me buy a 360, I remember the footage when it was revealed at that old Microsoft sponsored xbox expo back in late 2005-2006.

Man, 10 years. I can't believe it has been that long. I really want to play this so fucking bad omg.

I have $5. I think... :(

You can get the PC version on Green Man Gaming for ~$15.

Honestly, I'd steer clear from using the mini-chainsaw build since it turns the survival aspect into a monotonous affair (devoid of tension too) when the game is built around adapting on-the-fly and trying out various items on a whim to see what does or doesn't work, subsequently encouraging you to explore, yadda yadda. Lack of inventory space when you're just starting out will also complicated matters. Keep it for a second playthrough if you want to aim for the true ending or something whilst dicking around, if you're inclined to do so.

Making nectar in paradise plaza is probably the easiest health item to grab constantly. Cooked items are also good to carry around when you come across them.

I see what you're saying with holding off on mini-chainsaw spam, it can trivialize the game. I like the Mannequin build, which also opens you up for some interesting item combinations that are also buffed by the mannequin books.

Chainsaws are overkill, a waste of inventory space, do hyper damage to survivors, and a waste of time to go run down once they eventually die.

It's much more efficient to run baseball bat + sports book (found in paradise plaza first floor bookstore right across from the security room entrance) and female man torso. Female man torso is so strong against bosses and the like that you don't even need the book for it. Just use the bat to knock down zombies in your way and smash bosses with it, then refresh both the bat and the mannequin torso on your way back out of the security room.

Very little known fact in DR1: Frank can spit at zombies with sound effect and all.

While unequipped, simply hold the right trigger and press X (Xbox) or Square (DS4) button
to pay respect disrespect
.

I like how Frank gets nosebleeds whenever you take erotica photos.

My friend pointed this out to me while I was share playing my playthrough with him and I couldn't stop laughing. It's a great little touch and would have been lame if they made a big deal about it so it works as just being a subtle little visual bonus.
