Dead Rising Remasters detailed; U$19,99 each or U$49.99 for the collection

I honestly wouldn't know under what conditions they were captured in as they were done quite some time ago.

Either way, a raw, high bitrate footage is probably the best example. I'll try to capture a short clip this weekend and have the video file hosted on a file sharing site. Stay tuned! :)

And a quick disclaimer -- I can only do this for re-release titles since the content is not new. This is more of an unofficial community effort on my part to keep you guys engaged from a technical standpoint.

And you're doing an amazing job! I'll be there day one on Steam. :D

Those were from standard 1080p screenshots. They're actually quite clean looking and fluid in motion on Xbox One and PS4 as they'll be running in native 1080p/60fps mode.

For PC specifically, jacking up AA, render resolution, and anisotropic filtering will obviously improve image fidelity.

Sample screenshots with MSAA8X and 16X AF settings enabled:

http://images.akamai.steamuserconte...730/0A977D66E00E29C37CAAFF594AFE7E6FBBE69B4B/

They're masterworks all, you can't go wrong with any one of them.

EDIT: Given it's an HD re-release and there's not much to spoil, I'll likely do some sample video captures closer to release.

Damn those look clean.

There must be some kind of filter running that applies some blurring and grain to the image.

So just captures without AA enabled? Consoles will have some form of anti-aliasing and AF, right?

Aren't the majority of console releases missing AF these days due to the lack of overhead?

I actually miss games with shitty textures like this. Been getting a nice fuzzy feeling playing GameCube games again recently.

Gonna be great playing through this again.

Yeah well zoom into those books in the book stores and you won't be calling them shitty textures anymore

I hope that some modders can replace textures on some of those character models in the PC version. Yeesh.

I'm not familiar with the engine, but if there's a simple way to swap textures then I'll absolutely try my hand at it. There are not many games that I'd be willing to dedicate the time to re-make/re-work textures but Dead Rising is definitely worth it for me :)

Mt framework games have always been very texmod friendly, so I'm sure it'll be possible.

Awesome :D I'll be sure to post my initial results on launch to get some feedback on what people want before I get too deep into it. I'm a fan of texture mods that remain as faithful to the original art style as possible so that's the direction I plan to go.

Took me a while to get the footage captured correctly, but I think it's working now. The pack-in software from Elgato HD60 Pro somehow introduced stutters in the captured feed. I ended up using the OBS to capture footage.

It's uploading to MEGA right now and should be done in the next 30 minutes or so.

You are doing some mighty fine community management. Keep up the awesome work!

As promised, below are video feeds from the Xbox One and Xbox 360 console capturing similar segments early in the game. Do note that I've cut short on certain cutscenes in order to reduce recording time.

  • Xbox 360...1.2GB, 720p/60@8.8Mbps (19 min.)
  • Xbox One...2.9GB, 1080p/60@20.0Mbps (21 min.)
  • PC...1.3GB, 1080p/60@20.0Mbps (10 min.)
  • PC...1.2GB, 4K/60@50.0Mbps (4 min.)

I am not sure how long the download link will last, so please feel free to share re-host as you see fit.

PS4 version, for all intents and purposes, is identical to the Xbox One version from a visual fidelity and performance standpoint so I've skipped it this time around.

EDIT: Captured footage on XB1 and X360 appears washed out compared to their source output. This may be due to the capture card or the software not being configured correctly, but rest assured the source looks vibrant and black looks black. On the other hand, PC footage was captured via Nvidia ShadowPlay. The color you see in the PC footage is representative of the console versions in their native output.

EDIT #2: Re-uploading and replacing it with new Xbox One footage with fixed colors. It was indeed the brightness and saturation that was out of whack. The new footage should look much better. Upload should complete within the next hour.

Sure just like ps3 versions were identical to x360 versions back then right ?
Capcom games are rarely the same across platforms with at least one version getting gimped.
Usually it's the playstation platform that's affected.

I'm sorry but ps3 versions of Dead Rising 2 were very bad with serious technical issues.
Seeing ps3 version of Dead Rising 2 run side by side with ps4 version should be a HUGE difference.
That would really show how much effort was put in these remasters/ports.

Any Dead Rising game running well on sony platform is yet to be seen.

I try to be honest and objective with what I write here, but I understand your skepticism given the performance difference in past gen consoles.

Either way, you're in for a treat performance wise regardless of the platform of your choice.

Thanks! The XB1 footage does seem to have AA (looked like FXAA) and AF enabled.

This may be addressed elsewhere, but is Off the Record going to be available as a download separately? In the OP, it looks like it is, but it's only available in the 3-pack in the XBL store.

Going to get 1 and 2 physically, so don't want the 3-pack.

On Steam it is. I don't know about the XBL and PSN stores.
The port is not the best though. It tends to crash in the new Uranus Zone pretty frequently. At least it's happening to me quite often.

So I bought the Dead Rising Collection on Steam recently and apparently there's a bug related to the dlc in OTR where the game doesn't recognize it? I haven't had a chance to play the game myself just yet but was wondering if anyone here has encountered this issue? Any idea if a patch may be on the way now that these games are in the limelight again? Any idea if DR2 and DR3 on PC have any major issues? I was kind of hoping this wouldn't be like another RE5 situation where these games were left in a mostly playable but very messy state.

Sorry for the bump, but does anyone who pre-ordered DR1 on Amazon get a shipping estimate on that yet? I have it pre-ordered since the page went up and it still doesn't have a date and the fact that it comes out next week and this still has no update worries me.

Mine says delivery date pending too. :(
But I'm confident it will get updated.

You can contact Amazon.

Can someone explain how multiple saves helps people circumvent DR's timer? I'm interested in picking up DR1 come Tuesday.

The original single save slot system means that when you choose to save, you're making a commitment, since you won't be able to reload from an earlier save if you find that your latest save has made it difficult to do some time-sensitive task. If the new system allows you to easily copy saves or save to multiple slots or something, it would undermine that - although I'm not actually sure that it will.

if you're not actually sure, you can ask how many people ended up with S endings their first time through on DR2, OTR, and DR3 vs DR1

spoiler alert: the other endings might as well not even exist in the post DR1 games. people just roll back to the chapter start if they boned something up.

Ah, interesting. I'll wait til more details are out before jumping in - thanks!

A little sad that I just read that there's no case west or zero. Zero was okay, but the omission of both is kind of a big thing i think

Shit, I almost forgot about this. Probably going to pre-order Dead Rising 1 this weekend.

Finally it's going to be where it belongs

EDIT: Just bought it. I've been ready for 10 years now.

I mean I'm not sure that the multiple save slots in the new version of DR1 can be exploited in that way. Depending on how it's set up, you might not be able to abuse the system, and it could function just like DR1.

A pity as it is that you're given multiple save slots now in the remastered version, you could always limit each playthrough to a single savefile on your own accord. Keeps the intensity intact.

i've no interest in 'keeping the intensity intact'

if they let me save scum around the timer in the remastered, i'll cop it. if not, there's plenty other games to play.

I think the time limit in DR is short enough that it doesn't make much sense to reload a file. You should mess around, learn the layout of the mall, and level up for a bit and then restart the game. I'd rather get 3 days into the game realize I messed up on day 2 and restart from day 1 then reload that day 2 file because at least with a restart I'm taking my levels with me.

With that said, I completely get checkpoints being integrated as the series went on. I think they remove the challenge and consequences of the game, but once you lose to a boss 3+ times it starts to get frustrating to have to reload over and over, especially when loading times were long on the 360.

I was just reminded that DR had 2 options when you died: "Load Game" and "Save Status And Quit". And that was a really messed up way to phrase that. So there was unnecessary frustration with that.

I would love for the series to return to the way the original game worked, though. I've had a good time with DR3, but it feels like such a different beast. And 4 looks like more progression in that direction.

I have Dead Rising PS4. I never played the original but the save system appears to be the same but there are now multiple save slots (5). You still have to travel to save points manually, green couches, restrooms, etc.

So has anything been said about the save system etc? Changed, improved?

There is motion blur and still some slowdown (intentional design or not?)

What's it like playing it for the first time in 2016

Shooting controls are really bad. Sometimes you have to hold the jump button to climb.
There are some odd design choices like stun lock when getting hit by the first bosses' melee attacks.

To shoot you hold down R2 to ready the gun, aim using the left stick and press square to fire the gun. Now this is very easy to do in Metal Gear Solid 1-3 but here it
feels sluggish because the degree of control is not precise. There are only two control types to choose from and both are very similar.

I am not a fan of motion blur and there is no option to turn it off.
Dead Rising 1 is decent so far but there seems to be far too many loading transitions.

So they didn't update the controls at all?
That sucks :\
They most probably didn't update the survivor AI as well then.

I think I might just get Dead Rising 2. The save system will once again ruin the first game, and two is the best anyways.

It's the opposite - the save system is very well-considered and the game would undoubtedly be worse if it were more relaxed. It's like the save system in classic Resident Evil.
