The actual Avengers 2 only did 200 mill more than Iron Man 3.

The Marvel universe was never at a higher point than when Iron Man 3 exploded off the back of the original Avengers goodwill.

I think the MCU in general has lost some of its luster since then.

GoTG was a great BO story and easily topped expectations.

Yeah, if it opens at 130, Superhero Opening Weekends All-Time looks like this:

1) The Avengers - 207mil
2) Avengers: Age of Ultron - 191
3) Iron Man Three - 174
4) Dark Knight Rises - 160
5) The Dark Knight - 158
6) Spider-Man 3 - 151
7) Deadpool - 130
8) Iron Man 2 - 128
9) Man of Steel - 116
10) Spider-Man - 114

Highest Fox superhero opening
2nd highest licensed Marvel opening

Just realized that Spider-Man will be pushed out of the top 10 once BvS is released. Still a beast at the BO.

I'll just say at my theater, me and a friend arrived and 10 minutes later more friends arrived and it was sold out. When we got out of the movie and looked at the 10pm showing, it was already sold out with 45 minutes to go. Also, the line for the 10pm showing snaked around the theater and almost out the door. It was crazy.

I think AoU was a singular Joss Whedon style burnout. Buffy season 7, Angel season 4. Moments of great, mired by surrounding mediocrity. When he loses interest, it can be ugly.

I don't know how much it actually hurt the franchise. We will see, I could totally be off.

But Deadpool seeing this degree of success is mind-blowing to me.

Joss Whedon captained neither Buffy in Season 7 nor Angel in Season 4. His interest had very little to do with the day to day quality of either of those things.

Hell, with the exception of the episodes he wrote and directed, he was really only ever supervisory on Angel. That season had like 4 different showrunners in 5 years.

Were all those four day frames, though?

Studios will get the memo that Nov-Dec, and April-August are not the only periods on the calendar where an opening weekend of $100M+ OW can be realized.

Pretty crazy, marketing has been A+ too.

Bogging my rants down with facts.

I will hear none of it!

*fingers in ears*

I'd rather see Ron Perlman. After Hellboy, I think he's easily up for doing comedy in a Superhero film.

Go watch Drive, Perlman is suffering from Kyphosis. I'm not really familiar with Cable, but from what I recall, he has the posture and physique of a young bodybuilder.

All I have to say is I have a new appreciation to Wham! after this movie lol. I just knew this was going to be great when I heard Angel of The Morning and that opening credits. I'm going to go again tomorrow, haven't had this much fun watching a movie in a long time.

Haha damn this was so good! This shit got a big round of applause at the end. Last time that happened at a theatre I was in was Blair Witch Project lol. Word of mouth is going to make this movie so much more money than it already has. Happy for Ryan Reynolds finally getting a hit movie and one he campaigned hard for. Dude is definitely feeling vindicated right about now.

As he should. The guy has always been a good actor. Even with the awful Green Lantern movie he was the best part of it.

Holy shit.

Wait...how? Didn't it do 30-odd Friday? 43 on Sat still leaves a ton to go.

Thursday previews count for Friday's total.

47 Friday
43 Saturday

Lets say Valentine's bump nullifies the typical Sunday drop, and the film stays flat Sat-to-Sun:

47
43
43

133 mil Opening Weekend.

Even if the Valentines bump doesn't apply, it's still on track (should it make 43 today) for right around 130. It could end up, if Saturday is closer to 40 and there's no bump on Sunday, closer to 122-125, but that's still basically double the production budget in three days, and there's still a holiday Monday to go.

I rarely go to theaters for movies since most of them around me suck, their projectors and audio set ups suck. I made an exception for this one, I'm going to see it again.

I hope we get a proper UHD Blu-ray of this. I didn't buy a player yet because there's nothing I want to see badly enough yet. When this or Star Wars comes out on it, I'll buy a 4k player. Hopefully better ones will be available then too, maybe a Sony, Pioneer, or Oppo.

I have to wonder if after
Cable in
Deadpool 2, they'll go for Deadpool vs. Wolverine. That'd be huge.

Deadpool & Cable
X-Force

That's gonna be the progression, watch. Unless they just skip straight to X-Force.

But I'm betting once Apocalypse comes out, that mainline X-story gets sidelined for whatever's happening here now.

Wouldn't that depend on who's playing Wolverine by then? Sure as hell wouldn't be Jackman...

I feel like they're retiring Wolverine period after the next Wolverine, but as others have mentioned, Jackman's friends with Reynolds, so I could see him coming in for that.

Also, on X-Force: Who's on that team? I'm not very familiar with comics, but I'm guessing in the film version there'd be Deadpool, Cable, Colossus, and Negasonic Teenage Warhead at least.

Rumored lineup would be Cable, Cannonball, Warpath, Domino, and Feral. Probably add Deadpool.

I know that adding Sunspot doesn't make any sense, but I wish they would, because the Cannonball/Sunspot team is just how I automatically think of those two.

Fox must be happy that they have a new perfectly cast character that can draw an audience much like Wolverine did. They better greenlight that X Force movie sooner than later once Hugh retires the character

Would be disappointed if Colossus and NTW didn't follow Deadpool to that. I really enjoyed their dynamic, and I think audiences have too. But then again, that might make it X-Force in name only.

I could also see Gambit being thrown in there if his film is well-received.

That's definitely the team I think of when it comes to X-Force. I used to love that book in the 90s.

Deadline update:

20th Century Fox’s Deadpool is bigger than anyone thought possible. After posting the biggest opening day in February with $47.5M, the Marvel character has also scored the second biggest day ever during the month with an estimated $41.88M.

A bit ironic too since Fox didn't want to make this movie for years.

I could see Hugh playing Wolverine one more time in a Dead Pool movie since him and Ryan are good friends.
