I got to the theater last night 45 minutes before the 7:50 show only to find out it, the previous 6pm show, and the 9 show were sold out. Insane.

good for reynolds. didnt' think he'd get another crack at superhero movies after the green lantern but it looks like this one's a hit.

I don't think there's going to be a problem. What it does is open up variety. Deadpool's success means there's less fear about lower budget superhero movies, or movies with second tier characters, or different styles of movies. Guardians and Ant Man can get some credit for that too. There might have been reluctance before to green light these type of movies, but now we'll get more superhero movies, and I don't think that's a bad thing.

We'll still get the big budget blockbusters, but there's no longer a concern that they have to be that type of cookie cutter to have success.

Depending on how the four day shapes up, the movie might actually gross more in four days than First Class did lifetime domestically.

The success of this movie is blowing my mind. Freaking incredible. Now I have to see it in theaters.

Theater was probably half full at a 11AM showing.

I enjoyed it, only real weak part for me was the final fight scene but then again I don't care for most superhero films. Hoping the success of this brings about a rebirth of hard r films.

"No one knows the Guardians, too unknown."
"LOL Antman, too weird."
"Deadpool? Too niche."

Same old song and dance.

If only Dredd came out around this time.

I thought all three of those... and I was happily proven wrong each time. You really can't doubt Marvel anymore.

I haven't seen it yet, but if I recall correctly, that final fight had to be heavily cut back in scope due to budgetary concerns.

Even on the low end of $41M, that puts Deadpool on track for ~$130M. That is un-fucking-real. It would certainly put a $300+M domestic total on the table.

I don't think it is likely, but it would be funny if Deadpool ended up outgrossing Civil War or BvS.

Outgrossing X-men Apocalypse is looking more and more likely.

Good for Ryan, unfortunately the movie's humor was mediocre at best and just a bore in general.

For reference, things that are funny to me: Airplane!, Naked Gun, Leslie Nielsen, Borat, Kung Pow, Not Another Teen Movie, Sex Drive, Conan O' Brien, Eric Andre Show;

I just want an R-rated Moon Knight movie.

Starring Gosling and directed by Refn of course.

Wait, how did you end up bringing Civil War and BvS in this discussion? Both movies could be looking at 400M minimum.

I expect BvS to disappoint, but even disappointing it feels like the movie should crawl over 350m.

Civil War is more of a wildcard. If Deadpool could somehow get to GotG numbers maybe it has a chance on that front.

Its not Marvel (Disney) like the other movies though, this is a Fox movie. One of their limited Marvel properties they still have a hold on. They took the risk on this one and its cashing in big time, good on them, hope it opens up more R rated and smaller heroes.

Deadpool with Winter Soldier legs would be in the $350M range. Deadpool with Guardians legs would be over $450M.

I am obviously not saying either of those end points are likely after 2 days of data, but it's not out of the realm of possibility that this gets closer to the big 2 comic films of 2016 than people expect.

I always predicted it will be a success of its own, because everything is on the right course so far. It managed to keep within budget, no delay, passionate film cast and all. Glad to hear its doing great.

There's zero chance of Deadpool outgrossing BvS or Civil War. Don't make me start talking about twerk video bets.

yea, most movies based on Marvel properties just seem to find some real good success. I think just having the marvel logo on your trailer, just gives any, instant attention, with the exception of Fantastic Four.

I now need to find a way to incorporate the phrase "right up main street" into everyday conversation.

That or maximum effort

Fox got Deadpool so right, but yet fucked up Fantastic Four to Bomba levels,Bizarro world man.

Hopefully Feige gets off his ass and makes a NC-17 Moon Night movie

Just saw the film.... Pretty fucking amazed. The writing had me laughing the whole time and the chemistry between the leads was phenominal.

Seriously.

Both BvS and CW should break the $1 billion mark. I'd be shocked if both weren't north of $1.2 billion.

Deadpool would be (will be) a monstrous success at half that.

You would be shocked if Civil War wasn't over 1.2 bill?

That's the absolute high end imo. I really don't think it doing vastly better than GotG/Winter Soldier is a guarantee.

I think it will be marketed as pretty much Avengers 3.

Depending on WoM I expect it to do really well.

Iron Man 3 hit $1.2bil. It's likely.

I can see Deadpool topping Doctor Strange, maybe X-Men Apocalypse if it lands closer to First Class than DoFP.

R-rated success finally gets both companies thinking that superhero doesn't have to focus on being kid-friendly. DC might not have anything R-rated, but they've known for a long time now with their DC animated that superhero can be all-ages mature and still be successful.

Yes it is. The iron man bump will put it at around 1.2-1.3

I also think batman v superman will make a billion too

I'm steeling myself for work tomorrow. 8+ hrs of barring <17yr olds from seeing this movie. I predict there will be lots of refunds (with me getting yelled at all day)... 😱

Long lines with me checking tons of IDs.

The actual Avengers 2 only did 200 mill more than Iron Man 3.

The Marvel universe was never at a higher point than when Iron Man 3 exploded off the back of the original Avengers goodwill.

I think the MCU in general has lost some of its luster since then.
