Death Stranding 2: On the Beach |OT| Ain't That A Beach

Im talking about shit like this. This is not AF issue nor DoF. Its shit LOD and ground detail at mid range

GuNW1liXkAACu6f
This is a technique a lot of open world games use and all Decima engine games have used it. The DF tech review mentions it as well. You're right, mid range detail is poop because as you can see from the comments most people don't see it. Most people focus on either the short range or very far away.

Here's the part in the DF review where they specifically talk about midfield detail being an issue:

The footage I've seen come out of this game is totally whack.i only picked up the first game last fall when it was on sale on Steam. Played through it and mostly enjoyed it but everything I've seen of this sequel since it's launched is completely out there. I'm not even talking about the giant muck monster people, I'm talking about the musical song and dance with die-hardman or whoever that was, covered in goop. The fuck is this what shit. I'm out.

You picked up the first. But...did you play it? Everything of this sequel is out there? It's a Kojima game, how could it be not out there?

The fuck is this what shit

I'm trying to stay dark but I just want to know how performance mode is on base PS5. I heard the visual IQ takes a hit from quality mode but is it as bad HFW and FF16 or is it more than manageable in motion?

I watched the DF video and performance is locked 60 from what I remember in performance mode. Quality mode is 30fps but John said that some might want to consider this mode as it does look noticeably better. Image quality looked good enough in performance mode with some distant objects shimmering but the example used was some kind of fence type object.

Just eatch df video, its same crisp wuality and 60fps on base model like horizon games have

Time to take a break. 8+ hours played so far, PS says im at 12% lol. Game is just so fucking good. God tier gameplay, everything you do is just incredibly satisfying, even the combat now. Lots of new melee options, ranged stuff. So good to see other peoples creations out in the world, they help you big time, the new vehicle that i tried is super fun aswell. This is everything i hoped for a DS sequel and im probably just done with the tutorial

Pretty sure the side quest to build an upgraded shelter is bugged. I built on 3 feet from the hologram of the guy and even upgraded it to level 2. No check mark as complete.

Performance sharpness (« resolution ») on Pro vs quality on Pro is very different . I'm almost wondering if this early access runs the regular ps5 version only because performance is much blurrier . Anyone else noticed same thing ? On Spiderman 2 and Horizon forbidden west the performance and quality modes looks identical

Edit : I turned off automatic 120 hz in the setttings of the console and now resolution is fine . I don't even have hdmi 2.1 ports so be careful you might be loosing on graphic quality here

Yes, game displays natively in 120Hz (if it's activated in console settings) so if your screen is not able of 4K 120Hz it will drop to 1440p or 1080p. There should be a very minor gap in IQ between Quality and Performance on the pro

i have 120hz on and it looks super sharp to me

Played for 4 hours. Definitely way more combat encounters in this game.

Spoiler: number of bandit camps
Did 2 story missions after the intro. Each had a bandit camp. The next mission also entails taking out another bandit camp. Didn't take long to deal with each one but definitely a change from the original

The gameplay is way more tight and the shooting and stealth mechanics feel pretty similar to mgs5. Even got the first vehicle already

Spoiler: vehicle
Stole an open truck from the miles in the second camp

Feels pretty similar to first but expanded so far. Which seems to be what they are going for.

The story itself along with the characters is currently still stuck in exposition mode.

Spoiler: speculation about story from trailers.
although thinking about the trailers, I think I am not far from the point where fragile and lou encounter thugs, trailer 2 I think

The gpahics, sound design and performance are on point. The opening sequence was simply splendid. Can't wait to play more tomorrow

I got to play for maybe an hour and half last night, and been itching to play more today... stupid work getting in the way of gaming time!

I am loving my time with the game. I just arrived to Australia and it seems to me like the game starts now

That being said, be aware that this game is pretty much Death Stranding 1 with some good improvements. If you didn't like the first one you won't like this one either

Like others are mentioning something is off about the quality mode. It's very soft and the performance mode is very sharp.

Not sure what is going on. My guess is the motion blur it auto turns on destroys any visual improvements you would've had.

But if you liked the first one, you will fucking love this one :)

4 hours in and so far its Death Stranding 1.1, cant even call it 2. Eh, hopefully the story delivers and hopefully the gameplay brings some new stuff to the table. I do like that we're being reward for stealth now, I dont remember if that was the case in the first, but nice to have since I do love taking enemies down stealthy. Wish I could save anywhere tho in hostile areas. So far as I said, this is nowhere near a 9+ game, and as always critics scores realistically should be 15/20 points less.

Bro played prologue and gave rating. Have you considered journalist work of line?

Maybe I shouldn't ask due to potential spoilers, but it sounds like Mexico is a short experience and Australia is the big part of the game?

Bought the standard copy, arrived a couple days earlier so I won't complain.
Just the intro competely made my jaw drop, jesus christ, Kojima Products have been at the top of their game since 1998, how tf do they do it?

Anywho, other than that I played for like 2 hours, it has been more of the same as DS1 for now. I loved the first game so I won't complain but I can't wait until the story begins unravelling.

has anyone done a short and sweet summary video recap of the story from the first game? there is no way I am going back to that slop again.

Hopefuly this one is at least coherent

Your avatar tag is perfect

I know it might be pretty early to say, but this might be the game that breaks the modern sony sequel curse for me. Every modern sony sequel was kinda underwhelming for me compared to the first games so far, not this tho

Short recap

I will most likely watch this 15 minute one because I don't think I'm going back to finish the first one until I finish through DS2.

No. Yes. What are the "BIGG" gameplay improvements?

Hillarious. Gaf really cant handle criticism when it comes to their 10/10 games. The keyword was so far in my post and I also mentioned that I hope it does improve. You guys are retarded. You really cant have middle ground proper discussions on this forum, its either THE BEST or IT SUCKS. If someone has mid opinions about a game, you all trigger yourselves and mods seem to always backup the extremists. Im outta here.

Its not that serious. A game as big as this one, initial impressions ok....but youre acting like your 4 hr stint warrants a review and that its nowhere near a 9+ game and that reviews should deduct 15 points because you cant save in hostile areas (one of your nitpicks). That's hardly a reason to deduct 15 points, and while sure that would be nice, it seems like you want to press a button and insta win. All of your criticisms so far (i hope the story gets better, i hope theres new things to do, etc.....), have you ever played a Kojima game before? His games are always slow burns. I recommend patience and quit being so quick to post to trash something just to go against everyone else.

I mean it very hard to take your so called "criticism" seriously when you yourself admit that you are shitposter.

Nah. Im a massive shitposter, but hardly actually negative. I love to shit on ppl who are brainlessly praise something as if its the holy grail. Welcome to reality, thats me.

Just saw this clip on twitter. It's pretty nuts how insanely fast it loads saves (even faster than games like SM2)!

I wouldn't call it fast loading, SM2 does that. This one just straight out skips loading lmao. I'm not easily impressed, but this one did it.

Can't wait to jump in as soon as my copy arrives. Kojima never disappoints when it comes to technical stuff or game design. Anyway, fuck kojima and thanks kojima.

what does shitposting have to do with saying a game is 7/8 so far? Thats what I just said, and people here are "you're retarded". But yeah, Im the negativist and the asshole? Right.

I said so far. I didnt do a review. My opinion can change. Seems like everyone here missed that part and called me a retard. Its okay, I get that ppl hate me here cuz I tend to criticize stuff and very rarely somethign deserrves a 9 or 10 which is what triggers a lot of fanboys. Whatev. I'll come back when I finish the game and post my final impressions.

Outside of absolutley unreal (lol) visuals, I really love the overall pacing. First 5-6 hours are full of gadgets, mechanics and combat and give you more room than half of the original game.

The rebooted vehicle physics and combat are just top-notch. Not too deep but fun and without the jank of the original. And you can pew-pew more now! Even BTs! In general, sequel present you with a lot more play styles that are not confined to certain tools or lore reasons.

There's no more dookie grenades though :messenger_pensive:
