Death Stranding 2: On the Beach |OT| Ain't That A Beach

It feels really modern Western in the worst possible way.

Can you elaborate what you mean by that?

I never had a problem with media being 'too out there', but then again, I don't have that problem with alternative theories to our 'modern western' world view or historic depiction.
Unless I can prove something 100% wrong - which is never - I cannot rule anything out.
So with media, in a sense, I reserve judgement until the last moment possible. Never consumed anything in which I couldn't find at least some little bit I can actually enjoy. And Kojima, like Ueda, tickles me in all the right spots. So you saying it's too out there actually makes me happy and I'm looking forward to starting tomorrow a little bit more :messenger_sunglasses:

I'm hearing the game is very easy. Any Thoughts?
Im playing on normal and somehow I already got void out because massive bt poppin front of me and snuggled me(lone survivor/soldier side job to retrieve mementos) and died also on first big boss because of wonky controls of pulling weapons out. Never happened to me in first game and thats on normal difficulty

Feel a bit dirty for the EA, But i thought its was going to be $99 Cdn then saw 89 but 99 for today.

Only 4 hours in but Anyways, less cutscenes and more action , Vehicles and MGs/ARs wayyyyy earlier than DS1. Not a bad thing but more gamey which in all honesty DS1 needed more of especially early. Graphically a bit all over the place? Sometimes jaw dropping (Storms) sometimes Mid. I liked the first game but burnt out , this is more focused almost to a fault. Bandit camp ahead want to stealth or shoot? Abit surprised its so on the nose with that but I am early.

Ah I see another new internet buzzword that will be overused in 3-2-...

I thought the meme was bad enough and now people actually say it in conversation. Excuse me while I hang myself.
Dude…I wanna kill myself every time I hear:

Based. cinema. Let's Go!/LFG. Moment-to-monent gameplay; Legend.

I'm sure I'm missing several dozen others.

Glad to know there's at least one other old, curmudgeonly asshole yelling at the clouds with me.

I can tell Sam didn't deliver my box. UPS leaving it outside the gate. Luckily I got back home in time.

The dude would have a signed picture of himself in the fucking collectors edition…

Don't get me wrong, I totally understand why Kojima has such prominence and respect with people but…Christ…he probably farts and cums from the smell of his own farts.

One thing I have to admit that I dont like so much so far is the moments where a new song starts playing in key story momens. At least in the first chapters of the game, the songs are just not great? And they start kinda late so you can't even hear them completely. It's weird

I dont know the first game impressed me much more with low roar songs and asylum for the feelings.

Hopefully this changes throughout the adventure

doesn't sound promising. But recreating that feeling of the first one without Low Roar - even though Woodkid seems to be capable to produce moody stuff - is hard.
Not only was their music very fitting, but they nailed the moments the tracks were scripted to play.

I'm still looking forward to the procedural nature of the song composition, something I always loved in NMS. Hopefully it's not just in certain parts of the game.

It was definitely possible. at least in the director's cut version which was the last I played.
Wow, i never thought of that in Ds1 directors cut on ps5 that it is possible. I always put the cargo on the ground and spray it even in the rain or risky BT areas or mule areas. Haha, DS series is really cerebral, I should have thought about that. 😅

So decided to play the first hour or so last night

Holy shit how is this game real? Legit the most realistic looking game I've ever seen, I legit thought I was looking at Photos with Stranding stuff placed in and then you move Sam and its like "That was all in game!!!" genuinely blown away

What never ceases to amaze me is that when pushed, some people will always fall back to the "I'm the victim here !" and "poor me" mentality, it's never their fault, it's always the others that are, somehow, always in the wrong.

Again, absolutely zero self awareness.

Also : no one "hates" you (your words), it's just that you're a constant, negative ball-breaker that whines 99% of the time in here, it's got nothing to do with you "being objective" and people "hating" on you 'cause of it.

I've been here. Responding out of insecurity or feeling attacked and getting your back up/defence.

I think it might have been you that even mentioned (quite kindly, so thank you) that you should take time to re read your post before posting it and taking a minute to see if the post comes across as extreme even if it isn't the intention.

I used to post a lot in-between small breaks at work and I have a very stressful job.

It took me a while to realise I wasn't angry at the post id read or the poster. I might have been frustrated with what id read, but thats irrelevant.

I would then keyboard warrior type in the small break from work while stressed and it didn't help my post, how I came across or the community on gaf.

Feels good to be able to take a step back and notice these things.

Anyway. I agree. With that you are saying. I just wanted to add some context from my experience as it might help.

Based take, no cap. LFG you Legend, pure cinema.

Also the moment-to-moment gameplay in Death Stranding is FIIIIIRE, hopefully there's no ludonarrative dissonance!

Got myself up to Act 3 last night. Those few hours flew by because the gameplay loop is super addictive.

I kind of agree that the initial acts didn't need any songs to play during gameplay. Because the journeys are (relative to the first game's initial journeys) short, the songs aren't as impactful. I did notice that Low Roar are still present though.

Collector's Edition arrived this morning, no sign of the controller yet and I'd imagine the physical disc will probably arrive Friday. I'll probably just gift the digital code that comes with this away since I've got the physical copy on the way and only wanted this for the statue. There shouldn't be any issue with someone else using this code, right? I ordered off PS Direct.

Random question. I'm 20 hours into DS1 and I like it. My friend that I "gameshare" with on PS5 is getting DS2. I read some review saying the overall gameplay experience is similar. Should I just watch a story recap of DS1 and move directly onto DS2 so I don't get burnt out?

The potential for burnout is absolutely there, yes. I'd still consider playing through the first one to experience the full extent of the game. It's worth it imho.

If you can't wait after finishing 1 to start 2 or have a bit of fomo regarding the sequel, you could ditch part 1 and start 2 now.

Pretty nice video with combat and mechanics tips. Spoiler-free pretty much, and should give people an idea of how involved the combat system now is.

Anyone would like to share about the story ?
How intelligible is it ?
And what about the gameplay to cinematic ratio ?

Yes, the risk of burnout is extremely possible.

the story has alot of beats early on that would be considered MAJOR spoilers so hard to speak about it.
What I will say, is it looks like Kojima hired a couple more writers. It is alot sharper and quick. There are transitional cut scenes that set the scene up for the story and main game and they look incredible but I have just passed a big threshold in the game and there was a slightly longer cut scene than the rest.

There are alot of companies, new structures and concepts to understand. Its fine, its part of the experience. Sam sort of looks on and goes "ok, fine" and thats how I take it too haha.

Playing on Brutal. Had the same voidout during that mission.

I am currently 10 hours in, Brutal seems easier than Very Hard in DS1. Would honestly recommend starting at Brutal and see if it suits you. You can always plonk it down a notch if too difficult.

both the base and pro have a quality and performance mode, don't know the details though other than 30/60fps respectively.

I blv DF said (for the Pro at least) that the quality mode is pretty redundant for the most part and to use performance. Same quality achieved.

I haven't tried quality on Pro as what I'm seeing now looks pretty amazing as is on my OLED.

perfect spoiler free answer, thank you 🙏

I usually go for quality, the 30 is fine for me after 10 mins and I like the added fidelity.

Sure, 60 is better and there are games which pretty much require it, but I think I'll start with quality and then test it myself. I don't care what DF says. I trust myself if I like one or the other in a given game.

had a magic moment on my way up the mountains to this gate, when the music (Caroline Polachek - On The Beach) kicks in and the camera slowy fades away.

Kojima at his best.
What's not as good as in the first game:
You don't really have to earn yourself these moments after a grueling hike, they are rather given away, which feels less rewarding.
Set the difficulty to 'brutal' now.

Even though it's more Death Stranding, I love the Metal Gear Solid 5 vibes I'm getting while playing. The combat is so much better now. Most "disrespectful" dropkick ever indeed.

I guess people frame photos like that? IDK, I don't plan to lol. Having a signature would elevate the presence of the photo I suppose.

That's a thing I've been wondering about. A huge source of satisfaction in the first one was that they seemed to know exactly when to reward you. It reminded me of a good Metroid game. The rooms would be increaaingly more annoying and difficult until you're about to feel frustrated and then at the end, there's an upgrade making the trek back easier. The tension and relief cycle in DS1 was very good at least in my opinion.
