Death Stranding 2: On the Beach |OT| Ain't That A Beach

Just spoiler tag it.

How far are you into it now?

I'm jealous, although I could download and install it now, I'd rather use the physical copy I ordered and spend the weekend playing it instead.
I will when talking about major events. I'm still in episode 1 but picking up the lost cargo on the way and delivering them. Can't change an old dog

So instead of expanding on the burning bodies and void out mechanics, they outright removed it? Smh

And from reading on the internet it seems the game actually has 4 casual difficulty level, basically all of them

Sometimes I wonder, do they not have any hardcore gamers among those developers? They must have spent 1000s of hours testing the game and not one dev thought the game was too fucking easy? How does that happen?

I read its still possible. You can make your weapons lethal and you apparently have to dispose of bodies the same way.

But to be fair, the voidout thing was a gimmick in 1. You would get alerted by Deadman all the time if bodies were about to go bad, but once a voidout triggered you'd just reload your save with the bodies gone. They would respawn much slower, but the base would be dry of resources. It had pros and cons. I believe bringing a body to a base would cost likes.

Holy shit, how did I not know you could put your backpack on the floor and use strand on it to basically hold them together so they don't fall off......................

Also throwing a blood grenade and shooting through the smoke turns your bullets to blood bullets greatly increasing damage against BTs.

I love this game
Those are the types of details I love.

Yeah I still find Kojima's continual treatment, depiction , and metaphors of dying and suffering babies to be tasteless and hack tier writing. Much like the first game, I love everything about it except this narrative approach and plot devices.

As someone who has been there day one for Kojima games for over 20 years… feels weird that I just have little interest in this game. Is my lack of interest unfounded, or is this game amazing and I'm just not seeing it in the marketing?

If you didn't like Death Stranding 1 you won't like Death Stranding 2. He doubles down on everything about the first game.

I didn't...hate it... I just wasn't craving more of it. I didn't hate the narrative, but also didn't care for it much. It just didn't leave much of an impression on me. Also...I thought the ending of the first game implied that the timefall ended, so I was always confused why this game was existing.

Okay, I'm picking this up for the weekend. I didn't love Death Stranding 1, but I liked it enough to play through it twice. There's no other game quite like it, and the word-of-mouth on 2 is compelling.

5 hours in and it feels like a speedrun of death stranding 1 with a lot of the fat trimmed. Exactly what I wanted so far, even storywise.
10 hours in on chapter 3 and it still feels like that. I think it'll slow then soon as a lot more optional content becomes available.

Got quite far into Aussie land already, the story seems a bit more slow paced in this one or is it just me not remembering 1 that well?
Not complaining though, I'm progressing through 3 or 4 main orders at a time and then go back to do all the standard orders I'm missing and it's pure joy, every trip I find new scenery that quells my travelling cravings.
I do not recommend playing this game if you're very tired tbh though, I must admit I've had a few uneventful, long walks here and there that nearly made me fall asleep since I've been quite tired these past few weeks :messenger_tears_of_joy:

In DS2, you can even dispose off the bodies in tar pits. So no need to travel all the way to cremation grounds.

The first game was just too weird for me to continue playing. That and chapter 3 was such a drain that I ended up shelving it. I really like that first piece of art in the OP though.

I haven't played this yet but I think the series could benefit from a permanent-death type mode.

I'd like more tension from the first game but I don't want to make the bosses more spongey and don't want my cargo to ruin so easily.

My Physical copy is just sat on the table at home while I'm stuck in Orlando.. going home tomorrow though 💪

So it's funny...I ended up seeing some of the intro text for the second game. It basically recaps the plot of the first game. I have not played the first game. I do not like Kojima at all. I can't stand him. But now that I've seen what the plot setup is for the BT's, I have to say that the entire concept of the plot intrigues the hell out of me. I like it. I feel like I could play the second game since I know what is happening overall, but I also feel like I should give the first game a play anyway, to see the story unfold.

If you don't like Kojima and can't stand him, does this also apply to his games? Because I feel like Death Stranding 1 & 2 are as Kojima as you can get...
I'd say if it intrigues you and you don't get bored easily or find some usefulness or even pleasure in being bored and with yourself and your thoughts, go for it.
If you like over the top nonsense sprinkled with some deep themes mixed with silliness, it's all there. If you are one who thinks Kojima and his stories/games are pretentious, get the hell away from DS2 :messenger_grinning_smiling:

Yes that is indeed the problem lol. I find Kojima extremely pretentious, and he is a self-absorbed egomaniac and it drives me batshit crazy. Yet I am all for delivery simulator gameplay, and now that I have some details about the BT's...I want to check it out lol. I've heard about the feature length cutscene in part one, and it makes me want to puke but...I am just too intrigued now! I am willing to overcome my own dislike of Kojima and his usual work in order to try something out of my comfort zone. That's being open minded, and growing personally and all that good stuff, right? ;D

I will say the story recaps for this that are under say 1-2 hours will miss 80% of the story.

All the short 20 minute under ones, or the one built into this game do, is basically explain what something is like an encyclopedia without actually any plot points.

Play the first game and guzzle the dick chili 🌶️

I don't understand your view, but I can comprehend it.

With that attitude, go for it and don't try to let your dislikes of him and his style weigh you down in enjoying the satisfying gameplay loop of delivering packages across apocalyptic landscapes (y)
The story is very enjoyable if you can let go of your dislikes, otherwise, I don't know if it is the right fit for you if the BTs are the only thing that interest you in this crazy nonsense.

I bought the game yesterday and only had about 45 minutes to check it out.

Think what you will about Kojima, but games like this just hit differently.
From the opening moments, the cinematography and the haunting music spoke to me, and one thought solidified in my mind: This is what we mean when we talk about games as an art form.
It's a feeling I don't get that often anymore.

Home theater sound system bros, any comments on the mix? Good Atmos effects?
Very good. I have a Dolby Atmos setup and the sound stage is constant and alive. Wind whistles around through the speakers and controller speaker. Rain lashes down all around you and also from the controller speaker. You can feel the patter of the rain through the haptics, the rumble of thunder crackles in the distance with deep bass. It's quite an assault on the senses at times and I love it.

I am really enjoying the game so far. In chapter 3 and there is already so much to explore. I realised that special games like these are such a rare commodity and Kojima may not have many more left in him. He's getting older and games take such a long time to make. I am going to take it slow and enjoy the full experience.

Is this due to Reedus's acting or because of the improved animations and facial capture?
Maybe he just has more than 100 lines in the whole game :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

Dude felt barely like a talking protagonist in the first one, every line must cost 10 dollars or something (not sure why, dude biggest success was freakin twd that went to shit after 1 season...)
