I am stuck on 4-2 full black world tendency. Annoying phantoms and everything 1 hit kills. It's very hard alone getting to the fog door.

you can add +3 white WT by finding and killing the Primeval Demon that spawns in each black WT world.

luckily for you, this one spawns pretty close to the 4-2 archestone. kill the reaper and fall down, then head back up the stairs as if you are going back up. find the illusory wall halfway up and kill the red eye knight who is waiting outside. look to the left and scale the cliff, you will see the demon hanging out. it is like a giant bugbear or something, and quite easy to destroy. kill it to get rid of the red phantoms.

How are people getting to full black? I don’t fully understand the tendency system.

I’ve stalled out a bit in the mid game, cleared all the 1 levels except 4 and now I’m trying to get some stuff together to make a faith build. I’m a huge fan of the Health regen, but I’m worried it’s going to take me a while to get my faith up. Currently at 13 faith and 20 strength, which I did so I could use the claymore.

All in all, I’m loving this. I’ve played all the Souls games and so far this is ranking just behind Bloodborne for me. We’ll see if it holds up.

I didn't know about that primeval demon. I did already find that illusory wall. Worth checking out again I guess.

i got to full black in world 4 because i kept trying to take out Old Hero and would go Human to give myself more health. do that a few times and you are fucked. must have died dozens of times in 4-2 to the combo of skelly/mantas/laser ghosts.

the world tendency stuff is pretty obscure, and this is a series known for having obscure mechanical things. i've beaten the game (original and now this) like 4 times at this point and am just now learning about all this stuff.

easiest way to stay pure white is to kill yourself in the nexus as soon as you are human. this halves your health, but means you won't get invaded, and there is no harm to dying in any world to the WT. if you die as human, with full health, you are punished for it.

of course, it is entirely weird and backwards, the idea of killing yourself to have half health and that HELPING YOU. luckily the spawning Primeval Demons give you an easy way to reset it.

Ah, I died trying to get those items in the nexus and then refused to use up stones to get back to human form. I hoard all my consumables in these games.

I cleared from 1-1 to 4-1, going to clear 5-1 now.

I can't decide if i should make a faith build or magic build. In the PS3 version i did a magic build and it was a blast, so i don't know if i relive the same experience and let the faith build for a second playthorugh, or if i make a faith build in this first playthrough to have a different experience.

5-1 was the hardest from all the ?-1.

Just when you think blightown was fucked up this comes around.

24 Faith would let you use the Large Sword of Moonlight which you can get from that world i believe.

will probably do a Faith build myself, i've never really done that in these Souls games. i want to try out that sword!

Loving this game on PS5. The loading times are a revelation! Most of my time on my PS3 playthrough was spent reading the infomatics on the loading screens cos I died so often, so having everything load so quickly is letting me experience the game afresh and get some actual gameplay in. Still terrible at it though.

You guys have a problem with getting messages rated? I've got 1 rating since the game dropped. Every message I've left is 0. Probably left about 20 messages around. Helpful ones too. Lol

I've only left 5 or so and have gotten 3 or 4 ratings. It was early on in my first playthrough and haven't left many messages since.

Those of you hitting black too much:

kill yourself in nexus after bosses after levelling up.

no tendency change when in soul form.

I rate pretty much every message I see. I don’t know if you get health back in this one, but I still remember getting a health boost when my message was rated in BB. I had Orphan of Kos down to almost no health and I had run out of healing and also had no health. That health bump let me go in for the final blow.

Ok it may have taken me over twenty hours to get there but I've finally beaten Phalanx, Tower Knight and Armor Spider. I suck but I still love the game and really want to try and get good enough to actually finish it at least once!

I'm playing as the most basic of Knight characters welding the Long Sword and Knights Shield only. I have a bow but it's a shitty Compound Short Bow and I have barely any arrows at all for it so I've been sword and shielding it the whole way.
I have no magic spells or anything like that but did learn the healing miracle.
I've basically pumped all my souls into increasing Vitality, Endurance and Strength with a very minor increase to Faith as well (I have no real idea what I'm doing with the stats lol).

Onto 4-1 next?

Where can I find or buy a better bow and some arrows? Not having any ranged attack option seems like a mistake?

So can you get pure white by just helping others with bosses?
My bigger advice is always play in Souls form and just beating 2 bosses in Archstones will get your white tendency.

So your next fight is with Flamelurker, that one is gonna be tough fight for you, but don't give up.

4.

Do i have the bring the boss souls to blacksmith ed for special upgrades or is it enough to have it at stockpile thomas's storage?

Thats about it.

Happy slaying!
1- Yes and it will stack with the ring. Gets more powerful as you upgrade it but will not stack with ANOTHER of the same type of weapon.

2- For the monk' head wrapping just go online and put your sign down anywhere in latria...you'll get pulled in. I have like 20 of the head wrappings now from getting pulled in and then people dying before getting to the boss, that's not counting the time's I've actually fought and killed them. Do that once, you can get your head wrapping and be done.

3- that door opens up if you're online. Shows the pantheon of players across the world.

4- You have to bring the souls to him, unfortunately. Oddly, you don't seem to have to bring the stones and upgrade materials, but you have to have the souls on you. :(

Have fun!

Sounds like my journey.

Better get used to the bow it will be massively helpful in 3-1 against really annoying, powerful mages that are a disaster close combat. Even the most basic arrow will chip off enough health. You can upgrade the bow to increase damage, and you can find a merchant who sells heavy arrows.

Having a ranged attack option really helps. You can kill some stronger enemies more easily, and some enemies are positioned in a way that having ranged attack makes things a lot easier.

But really, you can play as you wish, pure strenght builds are viable and i have some purist friends that never play anything but melee in Soulsborne, because they say magic/miracles/arrow are cheating.

Just finished with the platinum. Bit harder than the og in my opinion.

Ugh..the 'magic is cheating' people. Gotta love it! Magic can be better for some things, does a lot of damage to bosses, but you are squishy. First, spells aren't as quick as a weapon and secondly, you're limited how many times you can "swing." Using magic is just fine. It's a mid range, not a long range option. Up close, especially early on and you're dead to most things.

First time through the game. I’m not messing around with magic and chose the hunter.

Right now I’m allocating my levels 1/3 HP, 1/3 Endurance, 1/6 STR and 1/6 Dexterity.

It looks like there’s no respec in the game so I don’t want to mess up too badly. Am I ok evenly allocating between strength and dexterity or should I pick one of the two ASAP and max it out?

I go all melee because for me that must comes from in Soul series. I most like fight bosses face to face.

I think magic makes things easier in the beginning, but in the middle and end of the game i find melee easier, when you have access to better weapons, armors and have more health and stamina.

I started this playthrough as Royal, MP regen ring and soul arrow makes things easier in the beginning but to kill bosses like Leechmonger and Tower Knight i went melee, because i couldn't deal enough damage to surpass the regen from Leechmonger, and Soul/Fire Arrows can't damage the Tower Knight when it hit his shield, so i used a hit-and-run tactic.

Darkness no more
Cleared the game in 35 hours, level 91. I’ve only played Dark Souls 3 and some of the original DS. I think I liked this one the best. The only downside was that horrible swamp level. I don’t know what happened but eventually I found the end somehow.

I used a summon once for maneater. Rolling, dodging two and locking on the bridge just kept pissing me off. I had to summon 3 people before I found someone who didn’t die right away. The third guy died right when we killed the first one, but it was easy to kill the second one after since it was alone then.

Probably won’t bother with NG+ unless I run out of things to play.

Fuck this game has got it's hooks into me.
Thought I was done for the day but was laying in bed think about the game and I remembered that red eye knight that was giving me trouble on 1-1 when i first started the game a few days ago.

Went back to face him and absolutely wrecked him. Feels good to go back to enemies or areas that gave you difficulty previously and lay the smack down. Those red knights seem to drop decent souls too, maybe I will farm here and pump some more souls into strength.

I would lead him all the way back to the staircase and let him fall to his death over and over again.

I found out that the best farming location would be 4-2. Stock up arrows for the pesky manta rays (lol) all the way to the boss area. you'll get a tons of souls there.

You use hardstone shards to upgrade your bow and buy arrows from the blacksmith. You can farm hardstone from the hoplites (the little phalanx guys). There are six of them right after the phalanx archstone. You can also get a bunch from the crystal lizard right before the tower knight, the crystal lizard at the beginning of 2-1, the crystal lizard right next to the 2-2 archstone, and a bunch of crystal lizards when you take a moving platform down not far from the 2-2 archstone.

Look at any weapon here and you can check out the upgrade paths: http://demonssouls.wikidot.com/weapons

At least let yourself die to something 5 times before getting frustrated.

Some people will go straight to google to find out how to cheese something, and that's fine, but it's way more rewarding to figure it out on your own. Same goes for most of your first playthrough. Finding out which weapons get to S-rank for the attribute you're pumping makes sense IMO, but looking up guides for all the character storylines, the tendencies, ect, just seems silly for a first playthrough. Go in and let things happen as they happen.

And don't forget to "git gud" haha

I’ve never played a Souls game before.

First go through I get annihilated by a bad guy on top of the castle wall and start from the beginning. No problem, as I heard this game was hard.

Second go through I take a left instead of a right on top the castle wall, make it reasonably far, and then get stuck in geometry. Pretty frustrating and not the best initial impression.
YEs the intro to the game is not a warm welcome...but it forces you to think different about your approach. When there is a will there is a way and if you learn certain tricks to make it easier, you will find it too easy....so try as hard as you can to figure the tricks out on your own. If you are ready to give up though, then its ok to check online for a wiki, you tube of someone else doing it etc. You will slap your head and say, "why didnt I think of that?" For starters, upgrade weapons, use a shield and a weapon with piercing action and you can hide behind it with stabbing and not have to bring your shield down. That for me was enough to get through the first two levels until I got more poweful wepons. Once you do, you can let go of the shield, always get behind enemies and never stand in front of them, backstab them and you are invincible during the animation. You wont need a shield anymore. Obviousy you need to be mobile for this. Stay under the equip burden to be able to roll and dodge all attacks. You have invincibility frames while rolling and cant get hit so if you time rolls right you wont get hit the entire game. the guys doing no hit runs practice a lot, but an average person can practice justa little for each enemy and do the same thing enought to get by.
Getting bamboozled on 4-2 with black soul tendency and shit load of black phantoms. 😫
Hire a blue phantom ....Im parked there for hours helping and my character tendency is pureset of pure whites for killing so many black phantoms. As a blue you always get a host that pretends to want your help but his black phantom friend online is already hiding around the corner ready to whack you and farm your souls...so satisfying to beat their ass anyway even though they used the element of surprise while the host sits back and watches helpless becuase he cant hit you. YOu suck ganker! LOL
I want to share my first time playing the game with no knowledge at all.

Shitty gameplay:
I watched a bit of this and although you are obviously new (I hope you are ok with me not knowing spanish) ANY game play is good game play! Couple recommendations? You have a sword and a catalyst for magic and although the game allows you to put the sword in the left hand it will only be used as a shield. If you put the the sword in the right hand then you can add a shield to the left and do fighting with sword and shield, but also quickly switch to magic attacks in your right hand by using the directional pad (press to the right.) Keep all your attacking wepons in your rigth hand and your shield inthe left. Later if there is a sword that helps your magic stats you can toggle it with your shield in the left hand.
I think I've officially destroyed any chance I have of progressing. I entered NG+ with Pure Black world tendency in the Shrine of Storms, and there is a guy right at the entrance who I can not kill. I could kill him, but when he gets low he eats grass and goes back to full. No weapon I have does enough damage to him to kill him before he can get the grass off, and spells do practically nothing.

EDIT: The only chance I have is to beat a PvP enemy, but I have no room to maneuver without triggering the enemies, and PvPers know it, so I can't finish one off, because I can't follow them if they just run away for a bit. Not like I could beat a quality PvPer anyway without a PvP build. This is infuriating.
I think I'm screwed, I got to full black somehow on 4-1 and theres a katana weilding phantom at the beginning and I cant kill him. I hit for like 3 percent health and he destroys me in 2 hits
I recorded some recent game play (but havent shared it yet unfortunately) where I beat this NPC phatom, his name is Satsuki and although he is tough, he is not invincible. He has predictable AI and is not a real PVP player. I tried at least 20 times and you are right, the extra nearby enemies and his healing are immensely frustrating. However, I finally got him by opening up with a parry, then switching to magic and stun locking his ass so he couldnt heal. If you can burn any stored souls in your inventory to raise magic stats this might help. If magic is not the answer, try getting two parries in a row at the start then stun lock him with your weapon and pump more endurance. Raise endurance to get more stun lock swings in a row. I also bled him with my falchion at times, but ilke you say he stil can heal then. Since you are on NG+ this might be harder then my go in NG, but I assume you can raise your stats by going to other areas and farming...good luck!

ALthogh I am not 100% certain, Iwould say that tryingto do the white events first would be better. Then who cares about later as you can just use stones to go black...just exit and go online for the fight, get your collar, then go offline before going to the nexus.

Ia m not sure when it opened for me, Ithink failry soon after the fisrt boss ...it is just an online display off top PVPers etc.

It wasn't about the amount of times I died. Just the time it took to get back into the game with Bloodborne. Essentially it's the speed of the PS5's SSD and the visual fidelity that brought me back to the genre. I'm not against the grind... I got the platinum Monster Hunter World and my playtime for that is insane. If you think a blind run is the best bet for this, I'm ok with that. After MM the only other game I'm interested in is COD for the DualSense feelings. So I got time.

See my owther post above....

ITs punishing at first but learn form mistakes and realize that there is always a secret or trick that will enable you to not only survive but dominate...know that as many times as you will die early, you will come back and destroy those enemies that got you later. Try to figure out startegies on your own, but dont be shy to use a wiki to figure out how weapons upgrades system works, how the stat bonuses work so that you upgrade your stats according to the weaponry you wnat to use, and consider shields and arrows unlike Bloodborne LOL.

Yes of course! All the spells and miracles have certain uses that are awesome. THere were a few other posters woundering about going faith or magic...why not both? Unless you do pvp and like to do co-op there isnt any reason you cant level a bit to use certain miracles and magic. I would suggest the Talisman of beasts as it allows for both miracles and magic and becomes the best catalyst for damage once your faith and magic stats are equal.

Recognise the feeling and joy of when a scary, hostile, confusing area gets completely familiar and feels like home. That is, ultimately, what the Souls hook is for me.

Each time you die and restart at the bonfire, you are one step closer to that warm familiarity.

Some practical tips

- Don’t overlook the bow in chipping down energy of tougher enemies, or enemies that have a hard-to-block close attack

- Always hold your shield up when you are anywhere

- Some enemies in Demon’s Souls specifically may seem to have a lot of energy when you use the L1 attack, but will lose a lot of it to a L2 thrust attack (provided your weapon has thrust)

- Roll makes you invincible to almost anything for a second or so

These are all great tips and align with what I've found as a new player also (I need to sort out my bow game though as have been sword and shielding it the whole time so far).

Levels or areas that seem daunting at first become so much easier once you discover short cuts. It's pretty satisfying going back to old areas that seemed hard initially only to find that you now know where every enemy is placed and how to deal with each one and you can now relentlessly hack your way through like Conan the Barbarian.

Something that helped me a lot was increasing my endurance early on because having more stamina to run, block, roll and strike makes a huge difference. I think it's also important to keep your weight (or whatever it's called) below 50% so that you can use your roll properly and dance around your enemies.
It's also worth remembering that each enemy may require a slightly different strategy to defeat. What works on one may not necessarily work on another.

Does this remake feel easier to you?

I just beat Flamelurker second attempt without much trouble. Okay, I’m using magic and have the spiked shield, but I remember him being a lot harder.

Trying to kill Armour Spider, using the Bastard Sword +4 which has been working great but seems to be too slow to get a hit in now and then shield up before he does his scissor attack with his pincers! He is destroying me.

Should I try and upgrade a different weapon, haven't found anything better really, scimitar and long sword are okay I suppose, but the bastard sword basically finishes standard enemies in 1 or 2 swings.

The sole method I found that can stun him at all in NG+ is Firestorm, and I don't have the mana (or the time to use Spice) to stunlock him from the start of his heal range to death.

I gave up and started over. It's surprising how much easier this is the second time, I've one shot most areas and two shot Maneater and Firelurker, the two bosses that took me the most time the first time through. I've defeated the first three bosses in Boletaria, both dragons, and all of worlds 2 3 and 4 already.

Oddly enough, the Dragon god took me like 40 tries, when I've never had a problem with him before, in either this game nor the PS3 version. I was started to question if the patch the other day may him harder.
