Started my NG+ last night...I cant believe that im still dying in 1-1!!! :lol

Anyhow, that guy that i rescued in 1-1...after i did so, he started to walk on through the level and ended up getting killed. I went and grabbed the mausoleum key from him which was good...since i missed that in my 1st playthrough.

I can't remember what else he did...am i screwed because he died?

No, you got the most important item. The only things you're missing out on are
a Brass Telescope (if you didn't get it before he was killed), 3x Darkmoon Grass in 1-2, and a Pure Clearstone from 1-3.

Awesome thanks!!!

Ok..i hope im not breaking any unwritten GAF Demons Souls rules by asking about something, but do you guys ever meet up to help with some of the trophies (ex..the best weapons with all the various stones, the rings, etc...). If so, how does that even work? Im not at that point yet, but i was just wondering if anyone does that..??

Frankly, I hope they change the class system for DS2. As it is now, it's probably the most asked question here because it's so damn confusing to beginners & the stats difference between a lvl 1 Royal & lvl 10 X is so small it's practically pointless. Starting equipment & spells are the only real differences that can truly change the first couple of hours of playing, making 10 classes more confusing than it needs to be. And considering that anyone can have any stats combinations & can use any items, it feels to me like classes barely serve a purpose at all. I got the Royal recommended to me for two reasons, soul arrow & the ability to shape my character from scratch, & that kinda tells me that there's something fundamentally flawed with the class system in general. Maybe it's just me :)

Royal starts with fragrant ring and Soul Arrow which can continue being useful the entire game. It definitely has a leg up on the others for a few reasons.

Hunter is a good choice. Well-balanced and fun to start with (axe ftw).

My best plays in World of Warcraft were as a Hunter, so I figured I'd best start out as a hunter in this game too.

Oh yeah, that too :)

It happens but not that often. I don't think anyone has voiced any complaints about it here though. Good thing is that you'll get the stone trophies by simply holding another player's maxed weapon for 2 seconds. There's always www.ps3trophies.org if you're really into that stuff :) Actually, item trading has been fairly common in here from what I've seen.

I've played WOW, The class system is not even close to being the same just so you know. Hunter is a very good class to start with.

It's more of a curse for me...:lol Ever since i got my first plat on RE5 i try to do it on as many games as i can. I truthfully enjoy it though.

How do you even meet up in Demons Souls if you were to item trade? Its not like theres a lobby or any way to purposely play a game with someone..??

Yeah, I know, but it's the playstyle that fits me best. Hunter ==> unleash the bow & arrow, kill whatever makes it through with melee. Hell, I even used this playstyle back in Unreal Tournament 2. Snipe whatever came in sight, shotgunblast to whoever made it close to you.

I looked up the Demon's Souls Hunter-class and suggested playstyle that's associated with it, and it definatly seems appropriate for my kind of approach.

Will I be okay with this game if I hate stat-juggling and learning tons of complicated systems? I want something pretty straightforward with solid mechanics. I'm totally fine with it being hard.

The Black Phantom edition is looking mighty tempting.

Id say go for it....i had the same concerns as you at first before i caved in and got it, but they were all for naught. I wont lie....in the beginning, it will seem a little overwhelming, but after a level or two it all becomes second nature. I think the hardest thing for me at first was to remember that your weapons and armor do lose their strength over time and need to be repaired. But its not like you have to remember to do it every other battle.

I say go for it...this thread here has helped me so much since i first got the game. Plus you have the Demons Souls Wiki page that is an awesome resource too.

It can be a pain to meet up. You have to do a bit of coordinating to make sure you both meet the requirements in level range, stage progress, and body forms. Then you have to be in the same server group to be able to see their soul stone, which sometimes just won't happen. And of course you have to find a secluded spot so someone else doesn't grab you first.

Lately I've been playing a lot co-op with a friend and most of the time the hook-ups are smooth, but there are times where one of us has to zone out a few times or log all the way out of psn. And there's the occasional invasion in the middle of trading to spice things up!

so what's this invasion thing? just curious

good melee strategy for the armored spider? it seems i get entangled in his web no matter what i do. also, where is the ring of fire resistance? ave already beat 1-1 and 1-2,are they in those levels or do i have to beat another level to get it?

Get a spear, you will be able to hide behind the carousel to the right and kill the three archers before the first blue eyed knight, then easily kill him with the spear, the same goes for the next one. But for the boss i suppose an axe or other wide wielding weapon will be better. I died a lot of times at that point - this and the maneaters have been up until now (world 5 and 1-4 left only) been the hardest parts in the game for me.
I'm doing a complete naked and lvl 1 run.

There's a guy on youtube who did a No upgrade run in demon's souls.
It's not really helpful since he's using gear... I already did a lvl 1 playthrough through the game. It was easy.

but they wouldn't kill a noob, would they? what would they gain from me?
If you're a noob, then you're probably already dead. You can only be invaded until you die, and this game is about dying.

the game is about dying is a great point to make, i hope this makes people more open to playing it

death in other games is kind of this separate thing, that marks the end of the game but.....this game it basically kicks everything off

and does so every time you die lol

Just finished up 5-2 yesterday after meeting the wall that is
Maneater...

Anyway, has anybody died because of controller problems...
ex. I was on 3-2 on my way to the elevators to when I was trying to turn and I kept running!! I'm frantically pressing buttons but nothing happens and I run right off the platform..

Yesterday, was fighting the black phantom on 5-2 and almost had her down using soul ray when suddenly I go two handed and stand there with my wand! I'm like WTF?!? Couldn't move or do anything...phantom walks up and slashes...done.

It seems if I keep my controller plugged in this doesn't happen but I thought they fixed this some time ago. The whole time playing this game I've never once shouted profanities at the screen...until this happened :lol

so you're saying in online mode, not only you have to worry about the enemies, which are already as tough as it sounds, but then there are other players who are going to try to kill you just for the heck of it?

Yes. BUT....you can only be invaded by other players when in body form. When you are in soul form, you can't be invaded. TBH...most of my 1st playthrough was in soul form. I think everytime i would be in a world with my body i would be invaded by some prick that was in his NG++++++++ and i would get wiped out pretty fast. I did manage to kill one person one time...:lol Its not a big deal when you get invaded and die as you can just go back to that spot in soul form and get your souls back. What DOES suck about it is being almost at the end of the level, getting invaded, getting killed, then having to start all the way at the beginning of the stage again.

only if you have full health, which means that you have recovered your body, and aren't playing in soul mode.

Get ready to play 95% of the game in soul mode, unless your are relentless about invading other players games, and killing them to get your own body back.

Great, thanks. Will look for the ring. But is there any reason to choose the Barbarian? Do they become better after you get a while? I generally like being a Barbarian in games like this.
Barbarian is particularly good at stamina, strength and defense stats. Magic, luck and dexterity, not so much. I chose Barbarian because I wanted to wield super heavy shields, armor and weapons, deliver knockout attacks while still being able to block and dodge attacks. It worked out pretty good actually. My Barbarian was a monster, and I made short work of any poor black phantom that chose to invade my world.

Royal class is the most balanced and newb friendly. All the stats are pretty balanced. But I was able to teach my Barbarian character some basic magic attacks which was alright.

4-1 boss and level would be easier than the Flamelurker I think (4-1 boss is easy, level isn't too bad once you get used to fighting the skeletons). 5-1 is an annoying level to some, getting to the boss is harder than beating the boss for most.

I'd go for 4-1, if you haven't played for awhile Flamelurker may make you rage quit :lol

Cleared 4-1 and 5-1 and they were pretty easy, used a hammer instead of a spear on the skeletons in 4-1 this time and it was alot easier. Killing the reaper in the beginning of 4-2 is pretty nice for farming souls.

Used the shortcut to flamelurker and managed to kill him after a few deaths, finally! :D

are NG+ really able to invade games that aren't NG+? I ask because in my playthrough as a temple knight I leveled my SL probably a bit more than some other players have at the same point and it seemed like every invader was easy to kill. I was invaded ~30 times and only died once in 4-2 because I shot the guy with a bow (he was using thieves ring to not be seen easily) as he ran across the top above the reaper then spazzed trying to change to my sword of moonlight.

How many times can you NG+ and how hard does it get each time?

I heard it was something like 5. the game is automatically set on easy and when you complete it the first time, it goes to normal and so on.

I think you can go through NG+'s forever, like you could be on NG++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Also, it isn't really on easy at first, they enemies just get tougher (more health, more damage) everytime you start a new playthrough.

I think after the seventh loop the enemies stop getting harder, but you can keep playing (and in NG+ the growth is 200% versus 8% of NG++ and the following).

Farmed for faintstone in 5-1 and was lining up a shot to kill a crystal gecko when I got a server connection error and was kicked out of the game. Started again in off-line mode and the damn gecko is gone, grrr.

Really annoyed by missing the gecko I head on towards the boss area as there is supposed to be some faintstone there, when I encounter a ladder I dont remember. Climbing upp killing some goblins and at the end of the line I find this awesome spear, Istarelle!

So ended up pretty happy anyways! :D

I finished off 5-1 and decided to test the Great Club out in 4-1 before quitting (only had a few minutes). Before I get through the Skeletons at the beginning, a black phantom comes in and I try to head back to the Nexus so I can keep my body, but he cuts me off.

He didn't seem to be doing much, so I though maybe he was trying to sneak up on my and I took a second to switch to weapons I knew better. When he ran at me, I dodged thinking he was going to attack, but he flew right past me. He took out everything in the level and I could barely keep up! The only downside was I couldn't beat the boss, so I didn't get to keep all of the souls he got for me.:lol

I also used the great club for 4-1 as that was my only blunt weapon at the time, and it wasnt that hard as long as you dont fight 2 at a time. After beating the level though i upgraded my axe to the Dozer Axe using one of the bosses there soul and the skeletons in the level are now one hit dummies. its a great wepon though you have to have big strenght and a lot of burden to carry it around.

Fucking FINALLY! Tower Knight is DOOOOOOOOOWN!

just finished NG+, wanderer with a blue blood sword, the best weapon IMHO, add light weapon spell and you're unstoppable

Dunno why but my damage seem to have gone down. Usually killed the reaper in 4-2 with two shots from my lava bow, now I need three shots for some odd reason. :(

I use the same kind of arrows, my gear is repaired (not sure if that affects) and I haven't died in body form in world 4 changing the world tendency to darker. However I died in 3-2 by a invading black phantom when I accidently forgot I was in body form and went afk. :lol

So can the world tendency in world 3 affect how tough the monsters are in world 4 or do anoyone else know a reason to why my damage seem to have gone down?

Happened to me a lot as well for no apparent reason. Have you repaired your bow though? I assume you mean your armor when you say gear? Otherwise, I got nothing :)

Yeah bow is repaired.

Kinda had a feeling about this earlier with other weapons and monsters aswell, but I wasn't really sure if it really was the case or only a hunch. Noticed now cause I farmed the reaper some and I know for sure that he used to go down on two hits.

Did the Black Phantom use Soul sucker and steal a soul level from you ? maybe your Dexterity is down 1 or 2 points ?

Nope, str still at 22 and dex still at 18.

Getting my ass handed to me by maneater over and over again at the moment. Managed to roll of the walkway and die two times aswell. :lol

Finally picked this game up and I am lovinggg it. It really forces you to break the bad gaming habits you've developed over the years, like running into rooms or staircases without being cautious.

That one room in 1-1 really sold the game for me. You have to rely on gaming instincts from the NES era, rather than the HD era.

You mean the room with all the firebomb guys and the rolling flaming cannonball of death?
That definitely was the beginning of the true Demon's Souls, I wasn't used to memorizing enemies and attack patterns to survive. So awesome.

I played for the first time in awhile last night. It's funny how even after 100 hours of playing DS it can still kick my ass. I was at 4-1 and I had Vanguard down to like 10% health but I got hit by a manta spear and then ass stomped by V and just like that I was dead. I moved on to 1-2 and I made almost made it to the end but I got killed by the last blue eye in a single hit. I don't get mad, though, at this point I just appreciate the fact that it can still crush my confidence even when I feel like I've "mastered" the game.
