Destination America cancels all TNA programmes from end of September

TNA since it's inception has always brought in "old" talent but the "old" talent wasn't past their prime in the early days of TNA and i still believe that 2002-2005 were the best years of TNA, specially 02-04 when they were doing weekly ppv's.

People can shit on Jarret and Russo but i enjoyed what TNA was doing those few years more then i have with what WWE has been doing for the last decade and i am actually really excited for JJ's new promotion.

Agreed. The Truth's title run from back then is criminally underrated.

The Joe/Styles/Daniels feud is the only thing I really remember about that horrid company. And Jeff Hardy's drug induced match with Sting. 99% of the shit they put out was exactly that. Utter shit. Glad they're finally closing shop. Not like they were making WWE any better via competition anyway.

Is there something about TNA that makes them toxic to advertisers?

Wrestling's advertising dollars run a little lower than ratings would normally dictate because advertisers have scads of data from companies like Nielsen that gives them a very good idea on the demographics of a show's viewers. For example, 30 Rock on NBC never had particularly strong ratings, but the population segment that watched it (highly educated, high income) made it attractive enough to advertisers for NBC to keep it on for seven seasons, even with blah overall ratings. Wrestling viewers as a whole, tend to be a little further down the socioeconomic food chain, making it less of a good bet for advertisers.

Aside from general reluctance for advertising during wrestling programs, TNA has the added reputation of being a pretty raunchy show in comparison to WWE. The TV-14 rating tends to limit the audience and make them even more unattractive to advertisers.

TNA is denying this.

TNA issued the following statement to Prowrestling.net on Thursday.

It has come to our attention that several internet news sources have falsely attributed statements to TNA, its executives and broadcasting partner. These false statements constitute defamation and if necessary we will seek all legal remedies available to us.

Powell's POV: At least I assume this statement is in response to the cancellation report that Dave Meltzer reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. After all, TNA doesn't mention anything about the cancellation report specifically in this statement. Is this TNA's way of disputing the story without actually saying which story they are disputing?

It's wrestling.

Think back to when WWE was super hot, they had all kinds of different advertising. Now they have a core group and that's about it.

Didn't they just have a "core group" back then as well? Like I can remember it being mostly stuff like Stridex Pads and Lugz Boots.

Keep in mind that TNA also lied to their talent, their employees, and their broadcast partner about Vince Russo being on the payroll. That's what this company does: they lie.

Yup. Advertisers have always known that pro wrestling fans are poor and uneducated, making them a phenomenally unattractive demographic to target.

Wrestling fans have a stigma of being super cheap. That's why the UFC can have lower ratings and similar demographics but get far better advertising rates. The stigma has been around for decades and WWE has done little to dispel it because while they try to pretend they're a normal, legitimate company, the carny always shines through their product and some of their stupid antics (false advertising for house shows, for instance).

Anyway, I feel bad for all the wrestlers and staff at TNA, hopefully they can find permanent spots at far better promotions. But honestly, it was about time. There were points when TNA were legitimately great but every time they hit a peak, they killed it off with lows that were so low, they made WCW 2000 look good. Dixie Carter is an absolute moron and has no business running a lemonade stand, let alone a wrestling promotion.

And yeah. Kurt Angle and Hardy would never be let in a WWE ring again. WWE have laid off the drug policy a bunch n recent years but no way they would let those 2 poster childs of drug abuse through the door. Angle especially is a timebomb waiting to go off.

I guess I could MAYBE see the Hardy Bros getting a RVD style run though with 3 months on, 3 months off though.

The sad thing is Kurt Angle and Jeff Hardy would be the two most over faces on the roster immediately if they came back. Jeff Hardy was the most over face on the roster until he decided he wanted do drugs more than be WWE champion and decided not to resign.

All this Kurt Angle talk...

Are there videos of his TNA antics or backstage videos that show what his abuse has let to? I wanna see how bad of a shape he is on right now.
He not in that bad of shape, he just put on a match of the year type match a few week ago.

I just listened to MLW Radio and then the Torch livecast with Jim Ross as the guest from last week. Even both shows hosts are backing up some of the things with Dave M as being true vs. many thought that this was done to sabotage TNA. The more I keep reading about this and how Dixie has handled certain negotiations in the past, it really shows how much she doesn't belong in this business. She sounds like a real idiot that should go back to just being a PR person instead of a President of a company.

You think Dave Meltzer is "sabotaging TNA" for real? You don't really believe that, right?

I should take that back, not sabotaging, but he can be so negative towards them that it does damage their perception. Now granted they have no one but themselves to blame for most of this mess. I hate to see this company go away since there are a lot of people that will lose their jobs. Hoping that GFW can be something to give people another place to work because even if TNA survives this round, how many of those 9 lives do they have left?

Considering Vince bought WCW for a whopping $2 million, I wonder how cheap he would be able to get TNA for

Not sure why he would want to, but maybe he has $500 burning a hole in his pocket

They might have to pay him to take it.

Only thing I could see is if they wanted the tape library for complete Sting, Flair, etc. DVDs.

Tape library is pretty much the only thing worth money from TNA.

Don't they pay everyone week to week? So there wouldn't even be contracts to buy out.

The tape library and maybe the contracts of the Hardys and Angle (maybe) are the only things I could see WWE putting any kind of value in. Vince would probably buy TNA and literally bury it in order to maintain the WWE canon where TNA doesn't exist.

The rumour at the moment is Vince has a mental policy of never employing anyone who has recently been on TV during the past 3 months. So if he has any interest in anyone from TNA, I guess we won't see any of them until fall/autumn if not later. For now, everyone is really better off selling themselves hard on the independent scene to make ends-meet.
