The problem with the swordbearer is that he likes to jump a lot behind cover and just stands there instead of trying to come and kill us. He can only be stunned once most of the time before he jumps, which means I can get at most two shots from a blackhammer before he's gone. The trick to kill him quick is usually stun him once so that others can fire a rocket each, while throwing in grenades to keep the DPS going...and any extra damage (if required) can be done by usually one or two more sniper hits.

His health recovers annoyingly fast in HM which means if there isn't anything constantly hitting him (even minor splash damage from rockets and grenades is ok, and these help especially when he is hiding behind a rock) he will recover and drag the fight. Basically it makes things complicated to take him down with just snipers and primaries as he will take a long time and the longer he is alive the more unpredictable the game becomes. I personally start getting a gut feeling that it's a wipe if we can't get the swordbearer within 10 seconds of us shooting him.

In my experience, majority of the times the issue in HM Crota comes down to the swordbearer being a pain in the arse.

I can't wait to play PoE w/ DGaf. Still crossing my fingers that they'll randomly drop in Kabr's Aegis shield and the sword for added fun.

Really don't understand why they didn't either play PoE at an easier difficulty or have some competent internal playtesters play with human-Omnigul while DeeJ and Mr. Sammons commentate.

Worked last week for Trials of Osiris, why not this week?

Yeah I don't get it either. We get more meaningful commentary when they aren't playing and can actually talk without trying not to die. Instead we just got Broman blowing out everyones speakers/headphones.

Normal raid is pretty easy, up to the point of being able to be two-manned and even solo'ed with ease. If you can get to level 30/31 and take two or more experienced people with you, you won't have any trouble at all.

Awesome! I will try and give it a go in the next few days.

Yes and that's one of the things Bungie does to annoy people. Going down to kill the ogres was a strategy, a good one and a very viable one. Bungie completely removed it because they perhaps thought it wasn't meant to be played that way, it makes no sense to have a gatekeeper there...what is he even guarding ? There's no gate there ! If he is guarding the ceiling where we drop from after the thrallway section then why wasn't he there before the Crota fight ?

The whole encounter falls on its face in the build up of mechanics. That was a missed opportunity to have killing the Gatekeeper be mwaningful, instead it's just there to close off space.
 
That's what it looks like to me. I think that makes sense, given how difficult the harder modes appear to be: you want to be able to plan and strategize around them.

The new modifiers look interesting.
  • Small Arms: Primary weapon buff? I think we saw this.
  • Exposure: I think this was the lack of shield regeneration.
  • Grounded: Looks like clipped wings. Reduced vertical movement (ug).
  • Brawler: beefed up melee attacks all around. I think someone actually suggested this earlier.
  • Catapult: it's a grenade icon, so I'm guessing longer grenade throwing distance?
  • Trickle: Slow super regeneration. I think we saw this one as well.
  • Specialist: boosted special weapon damage.
  • Airborne: wings with arrows pointed up. Improved jump ranges?

It's a good mix, I wonder if there are more. I'd love to see them applied to the current strikes.

Though, I really don't like the look of Clipped. I really loathe restricted movement options as a way to increase difficulty.

I think Exposure gives you boosted shields, but no regeneration. And Catapult is improved grenade recharge rate from what I've read, not sure about throw distance. And Bungie has stated there are 8, so that looks like all the new ones. Putting these into Strikes would be nice. I've always wanted them to have a higher difficulty Vanguard playlist with 1 or 2 random modifiers.

Yea the gatekeeper is purely there to block a space from being used, just like how killing the Hallowed Boomers now spawns a Wizard on the platform. Engaging the boomers with snipers while others engage swordbearer and Crota was another strategy, can't do that in HM either because of the Wizard. It tells you something about the monotonous and lazy design when there is only one strategy for HM Crota. HM VOG brought about some tiny mechanical changes, HM Crota feels like they completely changed their design philosophy and adopted the lazy route for encounter design by putting you at a level disadvantage, making all enemies stronger and block space. And it's being followed in Prison of Elders too where the HM puts you at a level disadvantage again.

It's not fun to level up my weapons and armour and then play the hardest end game content where neither my weapons or armour are 100% effective, it's artificial difficulty ! The penalty for being one level down is too severe and not gradual.

PoE is about what I expected. Nothing too exciting, but should be reasonably fun. The only thing I am concerned about is the rewards seem to be on the low side given time invested. It feels like a PoE clear is much less rewarding than a raid completion despite being similar in time investmet. This concern may not pan out as it settles in, but it seems off at first glance.

I am looking forward to some good gaf teams.

without concurrent numbers, that doesn't say anything. the game is on 4 platforms and had a big marketing machine behind it.

if that is concurrent numbers, that that's incredibly impressive and speaks volumes to how much potential the game has.

The number also include the beta and the free trials that have been going on.

You like that? Man, I haven't liked any of the Titan Raid/Arena gear, they are way too over designed. Vendor gear always looks better, than I'll be sticking with vendor gear this time around since we can get it to light 34.

Yes it is. Many devs would kill to have that many people try out their game.

That reminds me, I don't know if I've ever mentioned in here a strategy that was shown to me once but is incredibly potent.

As soon as the encounter starts, the swordbearer instead of going to the ledge goes and crouches on the chalice platform. It is of course particularly easy to get into position as a Bladedancer with stealth. Then, when the swordbearer comes out of the door, stick him with a grenade and shoot him over and over in the face with a strong shotgun until dead (ledge people should still help as much as possible of course). Watch for cursed thralls, grab the sword and go up as normal.

The swordbearer's behavior is much more easily manipulated on the second and third sword round, and can even be reliably lured to run under the ledge/central area by shooting at him, even through the glass (and not attacking any mobs on the left or right). Eliminating his behavior as a variable on the first sword can go a long way toward making the encounter more consistent all around.

It works very well; the strong shotgun (something with either massive range or the ability to do ludicrously fast damage up close) is key.

Figured I'd share some of my concerns on the Prison of Elders stuff we saw...

- I'm not a fan of the artificial difficulty that we got in the Crota raid via enemies being 1 level higher than the player max so not great to see that continue with the Prison of Elders arena.

- Main part of the game taking place in static single room arena's, I feel it diminishes the sense of progression/discovery that the other end content provides as you move forward through the environment.

- Nothing to really break up the single game-type of shooting everything that is thrown at you, much like the above point I would have loved to have seen rounds put in that required more of a puzzle or platforming element to break up the monotony.

- Real lack of objectives, we saw a Kill the VIP/Defuse Mines and later a Destroy Mines, I really hope there are quite a few more types of objectives we don't know about but not feeling confident as of right now.

- Bit worried about the inclusion of modifiers, due to the random nature of Horde modes I feel like we can end with some real terrible outcomes which can potentially end up being more annoying than fun.

- The stasis field only affecting the players and not enemies seems like a real missed opportunity for some strategic play, if we could use the traps to our advantage it could provide more teamwork.

- The new special weapon seems a bit underwhelming, not as unique as the relic in terms of mechanics and less useful than I would have expected it to be in terms of damage dealing.

...anyway, that's the stuff of the top of my head.

Where's the damn summary of last night Berried?! We had loot dropping like crazy. I got:

No Land Beyond (lol)
Red Death (my second)
2 Midas (i've lost count)
Gjallarhorn (5th). 2 Gjallrhorns dropped on a single opening of the chest, so 2/6 of us got one on the first shot at it.

T-44 got Hunger of Crota AND Fatebringer.

Lots of other armor and stuff dropped for other people as well as exotics. We only did VoG HM full 1 time followed up w/ another atheon kill. I've got the oracles checkpoint if anyone wants run it this evening.
