Just wanted to drop in and say how much I'm enjoying this.

I was never a fan of the Halo series, and I never got into any modern online shooter.
But Destiny is hitting a real sweet spot for me.

You could put it down to the looting/leveling MMO qualities if you were pesimistic, but it feels like there's something else drawing me back each time.

While the writing/story isn't great, it's perfectly servicable for a game of this calibre - and besides, I do like my sci-fi guff, whether we're talking Stanislav Lem, Iain M. Banks or Tom Cruise's latest film.

Currently lvl 12 rocking an Exo Hunter. So fun. It feels like this has great potential.

Playing on PS3 btw. If any other GAFfers are still stuck in last gen, feel free to shoot me a friend request. ID is same as on here.

While its not an mmo, is borrows many gamplay elements from them. Taking wow for example, once you reach endgame and all you do is raid, you have one shot per week to get upgrades.
Then if one does drop, you need to roll against all the other people who need it.
In this regard, Destiny's loot mechanic isn't bad imo.

Nah it's not. Atleast they give you other means to get some good looking gear while you sit back and burn candles and sacrifice pigs to the RNG gods waiting for that epic piece of Exotic gear to drop.

Now that I can get marks to get Vanguard gear I'm all good. Just one more vanguard level to get the weapons.

Then get motes for another epic cape and coins for that exotic pistol. Gonna be awesome

The same way people play Diablo 3 RoS for weeks despite legendaries dropping like candy?

Because its fun?

This.

Every negative review and criticism I see I think "Yeah, that's definitely true...Yeah that should be fixed...Yeah that's not so great..." Etc.

Then I get home and play for a few hours. Because imperfections aside, the game is fun, plays smoothly, and is addicting.

PSN try to post on the thread in the bungie fourms to be added to the list.

Sorry, can't seem to find the thread for some reason, maybe because I'm registered to GAF EU instead. Just shows the main page of the group with a couple posts, none of which say anything about raids etc. Not to worry though, sure there will be plenty groups forming tomorrow.

How do you get these exotic bounties?

I got my choice of 3 when turning in 3 bounties at once, FWIW.

Have to wait until the weekend to finish the quest (have the 1 coin I need to buy the ammo), but I'm in mostly blues at this point, so I'll take what I can get!

Plus it's a heavy weapon, so it could always go to an alt if I acquire more exotics.

But when you're "maxed out", there is nothing to grind for. It should not be easy to get maxed out, and it certainly isn't easy in Diablo.

You don't max out. Mods are random. Elements are needed. Stat combinations are distinct.

To reach basic 'geared' in Destiny you need, in no particular order:

Two (or more) Exotic armor pieces, one for each of your specs. Possibly more than one to have different build options open to you.

Three Legendary armor pieces with complimentary attribute bonuses and the right special mods on them that fit your build.

Three or more Exotic weapons for each of your weapon slots to suit different situations. Really, given the variety of Exotic weapons, the ultimate goal would be 'one of each' which is going to take forever.

Two Legendary weapons that rolled mods you want for the remaining slots, and just like the Exotics, the hunt for the perfect Legendary weapons will take you bloody forever - you would need nine perfectly rolled Legendary weapons to have every option covered, and that's ignoring that even if you have exactly the mods you want, weapons base stats/attributes vary, so even if you get an Auto Rifle with the mods you like, it might not be the RoF/recoil pattern/handling attributes you prefer.

Annnnnnnnnnnnd you're also going to want three different elements of each Special Weapon and each Heavy Weapon, to cover all the different possible Epic enemies and Skull modifiers.

So no, you're not going to have a perfect set of gear in two weeks because you looted one Exotic item and you have a full set of Legendary items.

The gearing system in Destiny is extremely deep, and if you don't think you need it, you haven't tackled an Epic difficulty mission yet. That shit is hard.

Am I doing PCP wrong if I set the difficulty to level 24? Does that make good drops more or less likely?

So, what's everyone's favorite weapon? Mine's the Acheron SR5 so far. Scout rifle, handles great, does excellent damage, plenty of upgrades, and most of all it looks fucking cool from a first person perspective.

Currently this bad boy, love this upgrade it feels like shooting a.50 cal gun. Causes a lot of damage too.

Dunno about more or less likely, but you'll get more EXP for killing the enemies, for your weapons and guns. I've never seen anything specifically mentioned that doing higher difficulties gives you higher drop rates.

Finally got a Legendary. It's a Rocket Launcher, which I don't use too much, but it's still satisfying. I'm a lowly level 22, which makes me feel like a filthy casual :p

I want some better gear and they don't let me farm more Crucible marks :(

So glad PvP isn't affected by gear grinding (unless we want to look better). I hit Level 21 from just casually playing in Crucible. Why can't some PVE fans go coop and just have fun with other players? does the game have to keep leading players around with carrots falling out of the darn sky to keep some people interested. That's just sad

Not attacking this poster. Just attacking this sort of mindset. "omg I need gear..."

Level 24, already passed the 100 mark limit for both Crucible and Vanguard for the week, and finally got my first Legendary weapon tonight...from a blue engram dropped by a level 2 Knight while I was doing patrol missions on Earth.

My only other Legendary was from a purple engram when I came in dead last in a PvP Clash match.

Lesson learned: put less effort into everything!

You can attack me if you want ;)

It's just that most MMOs are built around always trying to get better gear than what you have. Destiny is fun enough that I don't really care, I just want the game to have a long life.

There's lots of ways to enjoy a game, and all are valid. I don't relate to the loot frustration many people are feeling here, but that doesn't mean I think it's bad or wrong.

There are three ways to enter Stealth as a Hunter.

One is Stalker, a skill where if you crouch for ~3s you'll get ~5s of stealth. Didn't count, but yeah. Amazing synergy with the slide crouch imo.

Then there's Escape Artist, Stealth on a successful Blink Strike hit. Useful, but I'm not sure it beats the alternatives.

Then Vanish, R2 during Arc Blade to stealth. Meh. Like the other option, it just pales in comparison to the usefulness of Showstopper.

I agree with this, stealth isn't particularly useful for Arc Blade anyway

Btw thanks...

Getting fed up and burnt out on this grind/game. I've put in about 30 hours and not a single fucking legendary item. Been stuck on Level 24 for a while now, doing the same shit over and over is just not fun.
