Right...
Just got to light level 24 and Im
pretty tired of the game already, even with friends. This is sad because Im a MMO player and one would think the MMO-esque elements would keep me around
but they wont. Ive got 57 exalted reps in Warcraft but really dont give a hoot to get rank 3 for Vanguard or rank 2 for Dead Orbit. Im sick to death of these strikes for a couple of reasons: First, theyre only "at level" in the Darkness Zones while the mobs between those zones are the normal mob levels and second, because boss fights in strike level 22 and 24 are akin to throwing rocks at a wall or using a BB gun at someone in full riot gear. There are no new strategies or changes to the bosses, just more health and a boring, hand numbing, 30+ minute fight.
I cant see the raid being meaningful at all. What incentive is there to even do it? The gear? In most MMOs the gear is a means to an end, a way to prepare for the next raid. We have no idea when there will BE a next raid. The gear wont really help you trivialize earlier content: Its already trivial. Right now it seems like, mathematically, 26 is as high as anyone can reach until the raid comes out but I cant see any point in busting ass to get to 28 or 30 with raid gear. The story was such a bore that theres no reason to care about the baddies INSIDE the raid itself. Even most mediocre MMOs (or pseudo-MMOs) understand the need to frame up a big bad guy to make players want to destroy them in the raid. Blizzard have become masters at this: I knew people who really disliked Pandaria but stayed subbed just to take on Garrosh. Theres no such compelling antagonist in Destiny.
I hate to say it but I feel like Ive played this game before, last year. It was called Defiance: FPS with MMO underpinnings, abysmal social design, horrid gear design, utterly imbalanced PVP, and a head-scratcher of a story. Like Defiance, I find the only reason Im playing Destiny is because it scratches the "go shoot some aliens in the face" desire. Unfortunately, also like Defiance, that itch will eventually be scratched well enough that I move on. Im already missing playing Diablo 3: Ultimate Evil Edition which felt far more engaging and rewarding on every level than Destiny.
