Destiny - The Taken King |OT| Time to Explain

How easy/hard will the old raids be if done at max level? I quit before I ever tried the first raid and would like to experience them semi-legitimately before moving on to the newest one.

Unless you're on Xbox of course lol

Hey, Xboxers are welcome too.

Then there'll be a whole fireteam of them :-)

When your overlevelled the game scales accordingly, they may only be lvl 20 something enemies, but they can still kill a 40 in a handful of shots if your not careful.

First two raids will be hilariously easy. New one...well we don't know yet lol

Just beat the story, I want to say it took 4-5 hours for us, I'm still not at level 40 and we started at level 34

That ending though was wild, really happy with the boss encounters so far, bosses that move around and actually chase you, shit got intense

The Last Word readiness quest was super easy, surprised people have issues with it. It's faster than the Thorn bounty.

I got a Y2 Alpha Lupi and Boots. I want to do the daily before tomorrow. So many quests man. This game is rock fucking solid.

Time to get this exotic shotty and daily out the way, and sleepily due my duties tomorrow.

I might even be able to finish the New Monarchy quest line, which would be awesome.

Oh god I'm only 4 missions in to the new story, but its so incredibly polished, engaging, exciting, funny, thrilling... I mean, they knocked this out of the park as far as I'm concerned.

There's a story! Things are happening! I care about what happens next! The things I do in the mission relate to the story! The encounters are fun and varied! I'm actually grinning like an idiot!

I haven't been following The Taken King too closely, because I've been busy with other games. I have two questions as a result:

1) I'm waiting for my local library to get a copy in, because I wasn't the biggest fan of Destiny. I played through it then sold it.

If I get the Taken King physical version from the library, will I have to reinstall it all from scratch? Or will it still use the install from the base game, which I kept?

2) How long is the campaign content supposed to be?

There'll be no playing from the library, all versions are vanilla destiny, TTK is always a code in the box as it is download only and as per DLC restrictions the library cannot reuse the code over and over.

TTK story looks to be a few hours, destiny campaign from scratch now start to finish, probably about 10 hours if you rush

Strikes, loot, raids, leveling new subclasses......a lot of new content here. Destiny isn't only about the campaign. That's where you start really.

I was burned hard by the lack of content in the first iteration of the game and avoided the DLC because it felt overpriced for what you got. With raids likely being walled behind a lack of matchmaking again I'm just concerned that the same problem is going to exist this time around. It's why I'm being real cautious about getting the game again.

For the price of 2/3rd of the original game I'd expect more than a 4-5 hour campaign I guess.

What is going on here? A perk is completely hidden and bugs out.

I have no idea what it does because I used 20 motes to level it up.

Question: If I sign up with Dead Orbit etc, will this prevent my Vanguard level increasing when I do Vanguard missions. Or to both increase together?

And after the final cinematic plays suddenly there are even MORE campaign quality missions to be sent on through quests. It's awesome.
This. There's 2 missions after the campaign that I find to be really fun and there's a lot more quests that I haven't even touched.

Both increase. Your faction increases half as much as vanguard I believe.

I can't launch Destiny since I need the update that came out today. But the update has been stuck at preparing to download at 90% for 5 minutes. What gives?! PSN or my internet as the issue?

This happens to most people downloading the update today. It took me 15 minutes - just leave it. It will complete soon.

I'd love to hear some examples of how the new missions are better than the old. Are they more of the same hit a button and kill waves and bullet sponge bosses you shoot at then take cover and repeat?

What specifically has changed?

Also, until they add matchmaking the raids may as well not exist..

They have copies on order. I guess they just don't know it's a code.

I should've figured that.

Is there any reason for me to not dismantle legendary gear from pre-TTK? Can it be infused with new gear to make new gear stronger? I am not level 40 yet so I don't know how infusing or whatever it is works.

Wow - bought the game on disc and it'll take me 15 hours to install the update?! Jesus H Christ PSN, what the hell.

Also, thanks Activision for just throwing in the old Destiny disc and not bothering to press a new version with at least part of that update included.

Happy Year 2 everybody!

I've just done the first four missions. I like the way the characters from the Vanguard and Eris are all involved in the plot. The scenes so far are far more memorable than the vanilla story.

Really enjoying it so far.

I'm through the first four missions, and there's not a fight like that yet.

The missions have variety, diverse locations, different types of encounter designs, extended non-combat sections (exploration, platforming) and much heavier story components. Lots of radio chatter between the characters and Ghost, with well written dialogue (some of which is hilarious - intentionally), and a strong narrative thrust. Each mission leads directly and logically into the next, unlike the base game. And so far, there have been some nice set pieces, which were missing entirely from the original game.

The overall design and production values were greatly improved.

I felt the final boss fight was a big let down. Why does daddy seem so pathetic compared to crota who seemed invincible.

The story of Destiny has kind of jumped the shark for me. Once the hive started talking in english, it kind of broke all plausibility to me. I have less interest in the story and world now after TTK.

Not all bad though. At least mechanically they made nice improvements to the gameplay. And I will still keep playing MP a lot.

Son of a bitch. BestBuy delivered my LE console to my old address. And I'm not in town. And I'm not on good terms with my old landlord. Shitballs. Contacted UPS and BestBuy and have to wait now to see what happens...

Just beat the main story quest. It was a cool variety of missions and new locations, even on older planets. Glad that the post-game really opens everything up even more. This is was vanilla Destiny should have been.

This scares me

My Internet is super slow, at only 5mbps

Where do I get the Suros stuff? Or the Vanguard stuff? Vanilla level guy. I'm looking for the emote/shader too. There's nothing at the postmaster except a one time level 25 thing. I pre-ordered for months. Should I contact Amazon to give me a code? I did geta Vanguard 3 pack code in my game case, but nothing for Suros.

After you finish the game you get a quest that takes you through the VoG. So anyone that never got a chance to raid it will get to see it. It's a really fun quest. Challenging alone too around level 210.

Agreed, that's a really fun quest. Always nice to go through the VOG!
