Bruce Bowen is a defensive god. Afterall the shit he has had to put up from pussy players and haters he continues to shut down the opposing team's first offensive perimeter threat every damn game. Simply incredible.

He looked great on defense but was worthless on offense. He had two fucking airballs when he was wide open. I mean so wide open he had time to tie his shoes before he shot the ball.

Sheed just signed a four year (IIRC) contract extension last summer.

EDIT- And for all the media coverage Ginobili is now gonna get, this game was won (mostly by Duncan) before he exploded in the fourth.

I don't know about Dumars being the best GM, when RC Buford can get you Manu with the 57th pick, Tony with the 28th and steal a player like Nazr for a really bad contract. Although we also have to consider the Isiah factor. :lol

Bruce could've helped more on offense, but all is forgiven with what he does on D.

So he's the Anti-Magic?

I've wondered, does Magic EVER get mad anymore? Is there a "ghetto" side to Magic still?

Last time I saw Magic NOT smile was probably in the early 80s, and even that was an accident.

I agree Batigooool. Bruce Bowen usually looks invisible in games. You have to look for him. But he makes the guy he's covering invisible. The guy is just amazing on defense. Even though his offensive game was really weak tonight, he more than made up for it how he played Rip. Keep it up Bruce!

Ginobili's bald spot is slowly but surely overtaking Rasheed Wallace's "a pigeon took a dump on my dome" as the number 1 head related player signature trademark.

Bowen is the statless wonder. he doesn't score or rebound much, but without him the Spurs are not in the finals.

MIAMI (AP) - He's Shaquille O'Neal, basketball star and undercover officer.

The 7-foot-1, 325-pound Miami Heat center, who has a fascination with law enforcement, was recently sworn in as a U.S. deputy marshal. He spent six hours on a Saturday afternoon with Miami Beach police investigators helping with cases.

O'Neal has joined a Department of Justice task force that tracks down sexual predators who target children on the Internet.

He is becoming familiar with the techniques and software that officers use to track down the predators, said Miami Beach Police Chief Don De Lucca. And he spends countless hours on his home computer, logging into the police network and learning the ropes.

``I put a lot into it, and when I am done playing, I plan on going undercover and then being the sheriff or chief of police somewhere, either Miami or Orlando, I don't know yet,'' O'Neal said recently.

I wish I could see the look on these sick bastards' faces when they see Shaq arrest their asses :lol

Everytime my friend see's sheed's head he refers back to Jackass the movie where they go and start buzzing people's hair off in random places.

Incognito, you're probably one of the biggest Spurs haters, and the city will be going crazy, so the question is, how can the haters best spin this?

I watched the game with a bunch of foul-mouthed, drunk, and intolerable Spurs fans. Frankly, I wish they were all dead. Anyway, Detroit really let me down in the second half which caused nothing but pain for me.

I spun off all the various excuses: jetlag, 5 vs 8, manu the flopper, adjustments, etc. but none would stick tonight and Spurs fans were eating my shit for breakfast.

:(

I'm fully confident that the Pistons will win game 2, though!

When the Spurs win game 2 by 10+ points you will officially be given Konex's crown.

And sorry to say this DM, but Duncan might end up with more rings than Jordan. AND he did it without Paxon or Kerr carrying his worthless ass.

That would mean Horry would have 6 rings as a player. More then a certain Magical player...

I was wondering if the commentators were going to mention the similar looks of the two.

The way the Spurs close games out is amazing.

That's a bad thing. I can remember them losing quite a few times in the regular season in the 4th quarter.

At the same time I remember them coming back on Houston in the 4th like this. Ask DM bout that.

The sweep has begun basketball fans. The Spurs want it more. Playing 10 guys vs. the Pistons 7 or 8 isn't going to get it done Larry Clown.

here's your Spurs fact of the day...

William Anthony "Tony" Parker (born May 17, 1982 in Bruges, Belgium) is an NBA basketball player, with the San Antonio Spurs. Parker, although born in Belgium, was raised in France, and is a French citizen. His father was an African-American professional basketball player and his mother a Dutch model.

When Parker played against the Los Angeles Clippers on November 30 of 2001, he became the second French player ever to play in an NBA game (the first being Tariq Abdul-Wahad), and also the youngest member of the Spurs in history, with 19 years, 6 months and 13 days of age.

Parker, a starting point guard on the team, then helped his team win the 2003 NBA championship, when the Spurs defeated the New Jersey Nets four games to two in the NBA Finals. He has scored a career high of 32 points in a game twice.

As of 2003, Parker has scored 2,000 career points in the NBA, for an average of 12.4 points per game, 771 assists for an average of 4.8 per game, and 264 rebounds, for 2.6 rebounds per game.

Duncan looks like he's being knocked-up hardcore.

Dissapointing first night, but I have no doubt the good guys win Sunday.

You mean the Spurs....when you say good guys right...the Pistons are bunch of crybabies...

I have never seen a team as good as the Piston fall apart when a call or foul does not go there way.. The sad part was they played right into what the Spurs do best, give the ball to Timmy then burn the defense in the 4th...

The Pistons did not fall apart because of the calls. They fell apart because they were getting embarassed once the Spurs figured out their defense. There really is no way the Pistons can win this series unless Duncan gets hurt.* He is the only guy on the court that commands a double team and that is too much for any defense. I will agree that the Pistons definitely whine too damn much. They literally stop playing for stretches to argue with the officials. Rasheed must have infected the entire team.

Stupid Lakers! You couldn't beat this team of scrubs last year. :(

* There is one other way the Pistons can win. If they figure out a way to put the ball into Bruce Bowen's hand for the entire game they should come out on top. The only Spur who looked more worthless than Bowen was Brent Barry last night. I expect Brent to rebound offensively at least tonight.

Ratings are down 30% from last year. Supposedly it got a 6 share or something like that. I fully expect Don Stern and his men to make sure we have a Lakers/Heat final next year. WOOHOO LAKERS BACK ON TOP BITCHES!

Wrong, Stern will make sure its Yao vs. Shaq in the Finals

Stern wants Kobe. Yao would be nice, but the only way to get his anemic ass in the finals is to shorten the length of the court to 40 feet. That kind of special treatment is only reserved for the Lakers.

Bionic, please don't tell me you're a stats man. How can you say Bruce was worthless? He did suck hardcore on offense, but his job on defense is what gives the Spurs a huge advantage, nulifying the opponent's major perimeter threat. This series will prove who is the real DPotY.

I said he was worthless on offense and he was. He definitely played great defense and he always does. Bowen pretty much never gives a player anything easy. Bowen's pathetic offense display was entirely mental too. He can knock down that three from the corner (that is like the only shot he has), but he was missing by a couple feet when he had time. That is disgusting for any player at almost any level. If I was playing the Spurs, I would want Brown or Bowen taking as many shots as possible.

And does anyone still dispute that Duncan is the best player in the world (as he has been for the last 3 years)? And who thought Rasheed could match up with Duncan? The last time Rasheed could play with Duncan was back in 2000 before his team blew up in game 7 of the WCF. Ever since then Duncan has owned Wallace. In fact, after 2002 even Shaq couldn't handle Duncan on defense which is when I started saying Duncan was the best player in the league.

It's clear that the Pistons are still tired from their last series. They'll pick it up on Sunday and pull off the victory. Detroit is money at the Palace, so tack on two more wins. SA will pull a desperation win back at home but a sweet game 6 win @ Detroit will have the Piston's repeating. LB will kick the Bad Boyz II outta their funk...

I have a feeling game 6 won't be at Detroit and that there won't even be a need for game 6. ;)

The Finals, and only the Finals, are a 2-3-2 series, so game 5 (if necessary) will be Detroits last home game win or lose.

"If the Pistons lose, I think that Rasheed Wallace should be forced to hand over his belt to Tim Duncan while doing the whole 'I hate that I lost, but I respect you' handshake like Hogan at Wrestlemania 6. Then he could raise Duncan's hand in victory and be carried from the court in a miniature wrestling ring."

Needless to say, I'm now rooting for the Spurs. If the Pistons lose, Rasheed has to hand over the belt to Duncan. This needs to happen. It has to happen. And the scenario had me so fired up, I even kept a running diary of Game 1 last night

10:17 – They just showed a "Dancing With the Stars" promo, which reminds me: Start TiVo-ing this show, if only for the Evander Holyfield parts. Did you ever have a quiet family member who got drunk at a wedding and decided to show off his moves on the dance floor and wasn't half-bad – except that he sported a crazy half-smile/half-intensity look the entire time, and you weren't quite sure if someone was going to be groped inappropriately? That's what we're getting with Evander every week.

10:49 – The second half is under way. And just for the record, we get it, we get it – Larry Brown and Greg Popovich are good friends. Gotcha. Heard you the first 200 times. Thank God they're not kissing each other before games like Isiah and Magic did.

10:53 – Reason No. 473 why I could never be a basketball announcer: Every time Bruce Bowen launches a jumpshot, I would scream out "Pull!"

11:23 – Michaels just rattled off the inevitable "beauty is in the beholder" speech, admitting it's a low-scoring game but arguing that any basketball fan should appreciate the defense and the intensity, even finishing with, "It may not be elegant, but you have to appreciate it."

Really? I have to appreciate dozens of wide-open bricks, missed layups and terrible decisions in traffic? Did great defense make Bowen fire that wide-open airball that nearly pulled a Joe Johnson on Antonio McDyess' face? I don't think so. There are 24 guys in this game, and only two of them (Duncan and Billups) look even remotely competent offensively. So you can't play that card, Al. I'm sorry.

11:41 – Fantastic closeup of Ginobili's budding bald spot. Highlight of the game so far.

C. Any scenario that involves the phrase "Here's a wide-open Bowen!" is a situation you want to explore and possibly even provoke.

D. Tell Ben Wallace that Nazr Mohammed and Tim Duncan were making fun of his mom before Game 1 – that might be the only way you can get Big Ben to start playing like he did before you won the title. Seriously, who's coasted more this spring, Ben Wallace or Manny Ramirez? It's a toss-up, right?

:lol :lol :lol

Loki

Count of Concision
9:50- Parker dribbles the ball off his foot with 4.3 seconds remaining, leading to a quick Billups substitution and the … yes! There it is! The inevitable "4.3 seconds is a long time" comment from Hubie. I know this man like the back of my hand.

:lol

So true. The Doug Collins analogue would be his whole "the inbounder is the most dangerous guy in these kinds of plays" thing. :p
