What the...

When I was in this thread yesterday everyone seemed really hyped on the game after the mostly glowing reviews and today I come back to countless "pre-order cancelled" and "Square clearly don't care about this franchise" posts.

...the hell happened?!

Gaf being Gaf.

It's a personal decision and I wasn't really complaining. I know I could do what you said but I know I won't and won't be able to play the game without thinking " should I lower this setting and gain 5 fps or should I not touch it"

And the actual cons of the game are deal breakers to me . I'm allergic to shitty endings .

You should probably stick to console gaming.

Well, I'm still getting the game.

Don't give a fuck if I have to go on high on a 970. Oh, the horror.

Short length doesn't really surprise me. Human Revolution basically repeated its two hubs. I believe they wanted a lot more, but had to cut.

Anyway, shame to hear they may have learned nothing from the flaws in Human Revolution's XP system; maybe they don't see them as flaws.

For me at least, I'm taking short full playthroughs (as in, less than 15 hours) with a grain of salt. Some of y'all on GAF are machines lol

see my big post on page 28..

Scanning the review comments, so far I hear complaints about story, lack of polish and short run time while the average score is 8/10.

I loved the first one, so this is good enough for me. I also get the impression that 8/10 means that these are things that can be easily overlooked.

My copy arrived stupid early. Haven't played much of it but I'm finding it a bit dodgy to play. Probably doesn't help that I've been playing it in between Overwatch and the Titanfall 2 Tech Test, so the first-person combat feels super janky when you inevitably fuck up the stealth.

The hype is starting to get to work on me... I think I'm going to have to buy before long. Hopefully sub-£30 won't take too long for the PS4 version, though I think that I may also have the buy the SteelBook to supplement that.

On the offchance that I were to look to get the game on Steam instead, has anyone seen anything about how my 965M might perform?

What the hell is happening here.

I don't know you guys but I am still hyped for this game, it's exactly what I expected, a refined Human Revolution experience and that's ok. The abrupt ending sucks but Human Revolution is not good at the story department either lol, so that's what I expected.

Totally agreed.

I loved HR so I'm still hyped for this game, but I am a little disappointed about the size/length of it, especially if Prague is the only "real" hub and the missions can be very short. A year ago I would've said I was expecting at least 2, hopefully 3 big meaty HR sized hubs and a story that doesn't just seemingly end randomly full stop to milk DLC/trilogy aspirations. Less content than a Witcher 3 expansion?! =P (Witcher 3 spoiled me for life)

Just get a gsync monitor and you won't ever worry about frame drops again

And if you're allergic to 'shitty endings' then you must not beat many games.

The power of ONE persons post. Wow.

And it's a shame that all of the positive reactions and reviews (and let's be brutally honest here, there are a lot of positive reviews) are being drowned out by a few select quotes or an individual's rush play through.

It almost feels like there's a desire for negativity.

It's supposedly thirty hours in a dense hub.

I think the story complaints probably come from the focus around a single city. In past Deus Ex games, yes even Invisible War, you were flying all over the world to uncover the conspiracy and all that. In this game it sounds like you're in Prague for perhaps the entire game, hence the complaints about a smaller focus and "worse" story.

Honestly though, while I enjoyed seeing different locales I can't complain about a smaller story for once. So many games and movies and other media these days have these huge epic plots about saving the world that I quite enjoy when something takes a smaller, more focused approach. I like the comparison I read about Assassin's Creed 2 vs Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, where the former has more cities that are smaller and less detailed while the latter focuses on a single, larger, more richly detailed city. It's sounding like that's what's going on here both in regards to Prague and the story, and it's just fine with me.

Also, I don't mind the apparent lack of boss fights. In the original Deus Ex you didn't really have boss fights either. There was Anna, Gunther, and Walter and that's all I can remember that could be considered "traditional" boss fights, however just as in Human Revolution actually trying to fight them was terrible. Don't tell me you didn't just use Gunther's kill phrase and run past Walton. Deus Ex isn't really a series that's suited to boss fights, they don't fit in its gameplay. I never beat the Director's Cut of HR to see what they did to the bosses there, but even if they did add options to defeat them other than shooting them, simply having this guy you have to kill to progress doesn't really mesh with what I like about Deus Ex.

Anyway, the original Deus Ex was super flawed when you looked at it up closed and only paid attention to its negatives and not its positives. Despite that, the whole game came together to be excellent. Looking at flaws in a game and ignoring the positives really is a terrible way to judge a game, especially when it has been rated to be overall good if not great.

I can't wait to play. I liked a lot of the stealth aspects of HR and enjoyed it quite a bit. I don't think I replayed it as it didn't grab me the way similar games would but I had a good time with HR, so I'm expecting MD to give me that same experience. I don't remember a single thing about the story of HR so I can't imagine the story of MD being something I'll find memorable, but I'm excited to play a new one. As far as someone saying they beat it in ~14 hours or so, what difficulty were they playing on?

Looks like its HR 2.0 and im all for it. I need a good Cyperpunk game in my life right now.
I hope i can play it on high settings with my 970 kinda worried.

I do beat the games. But shitty endings sour my opinion and memory of the games forever ( Mass Effect , Assassin's Creed 3 and Unity...)

I don't know about you, but when I see universal critical acclaim, I cancel my preorder.

Does the game have anything on par with Morpheus or the Hong Kong Bartender?

Eidos Montreal seems to have a decent grasp on the gameplay, but I found the whole aug focus a little shallow compared to the topics discussed in the first game.

I like it when the main campaign is relatively tight (8-10 hours) but with optional side-quests that push the game to 15-20. The Witcher 3 was amazing because of this. You could power through the main story pretty quickly if you wanted to, but the side-quests just make this game last forever.

That conversation was so unexpected and ridiculously out of place delivered with a weird Aussie accent that you can't help it but love it.

RE: Seemingly bad benchmarks:

Hmm, the benchmark tool may be overly taxing so as to give an idea how the game performs in worst-case scenarios. Thi4f's is set up in such a way -- actual in-game performance is notably higher.

Don't huddle with Chicken Little just yet. Plus, hey, it's a little too early to play the "Bad port" card as there's yet to be a detailed Ultra versus PS4/X1 comparison.

What's wrong with people here. One outlier says he finished in 14h, and one benchmark with minimal info and no frame of reference... and everybody loses their minds? Come on now.

So I know will try to explain the negatives of this game by providing excerpts from the "negative" reviews and try to make sense of S1kkZ post below. This is coming from a HR fan and I've already pre-ordered MD. I feel like there is something "weird" about this game from reading so many reviews. I'm getting a feeling of developmental hell for this game. Anyway, let me provide the excerpts:

There are more reviews that echo similar sentiments. Interesting...Not sure how to process this. I am worried now. This game seemed to have suffered from 5 year developmental hell. Rumors that this game was originally one big game but chopped into 3 games for Square Enix to milk ... kind of makes sense given what we know know??

1 big hub that's not really varied, short story, abrupt ending, 1 lazy boss fight, side quests aren't good, level design is formulaic filled with convenient vents/ladders etc to help you bypass the levels. AI are dumb and run at you when you're in cover behind a doorway. Pacing is off. List goes on? Idk...let me know what you think. Maybe I'm overreacting, but after 5 years I was expecting Eidos Montreal to learn from their mistakes. It seems like they listened, but executed poorly and now this game stinks of develpemental hell and possibly that the game is "part 1" of the true Mandkind Divided game.

Also, just want to add. Apparently the pre-order mission is not supposed to be played till you BEAT the game because it contains spoilers...wtf? Seems weird! What game gives you pre-order content only to be played when you beat the game???

(sorry for rambling, I hope I made sense. I'm not trying to attack this game (I pre-ordered it! but I may cancel now)..just trying to make sense about the rumors of developmental hell and the possibility that MD was originally one big game, but all we got was "part 1"...)

Damn.

Welp, I think I found a game breaking bug on the PS4 version. A passage is missing or glitched which does let me continue a story mission. Every time I walk towards it I fall out of the game. Already reloaded the oldest save file, played all of the way until that point and no luck. I also uninstalled and reinstalled the game and that didn't work. Going to uninstall again and try again without the patch.

Kinda glad simply games didn't deliver today. After reading reviews/impressions I think I'm gonna send it straight back and wait till its on sale.
