Deus Ex: Mankind Divided |OT| We Asked For This

FlyinJ

Douchebag. Yes, me.
So how do these "unstable" aug upgrades work? I went through the tutorial for them just now, and I'm confused.

In order to use one, I need to disable a normal aug... but it says that aug will be permanently disabled? So I basically have to permanently throw away an aug to use an unstable aug? Or can I turn off and on augs at any time as long as I stabilize my suit power?

I'm not sure either... but a way to circumvent the limitations was mentioned so I'm holding off for now.

I'll say I'm enjoying myself more with this than I did with HR. I do think performance could be a bit better, and I'm unsure what settings I should lower to achieve 60+fps while maintaining a decent IQ. On a mix of mostly high settings on a 980ti at 1440p I seem to get an average framerate of about 55, G-sync is a big help in this regard, but it's still annoying. I've had 1 crash and this last time I played framerate kept jumping back and forth between 1 and 22, which I found to be really weird.

I'm about 9 hours in and I just really like the overall design. I'm enjoying the side missions a lot and I really like how the augs work.

Two things: What the hell is up with sprinting up a staircase? Feels like I'm doing the running man when trying to sprint up them. Anyone else running into that or is it just me? It's quicker to sprint to a staircase, stop and then walk up it than to just continue the sprint.

Also, I've noticed that I seem to warp to mach speed when in the sewers and coming across the lip of a curb on the ground.

How do I get around to overclocking my augs? I went to try and find the guy under the library but he's missing.

What do you mean did you meet him already? If so the next step iirc is going to the underground
casino
in another part of Prague.

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!
Watched the 12 minute HR recap and goddamn, I don't recall the narrative thrust in the original game being so well...silly.

Granted, condensing all of the contextual plot points into a brief summation certainly removes a lot of the subtlety of the motives that were clearly more deliberately fleshed out over a 20-ish hour play. I still couldn't help but scratch my head trying to recall just how ridiculous the stacking pile of conspiracies upon conspiracies littered the plotline. It felt like each new spoken paragraph started to read like a parody of itself. Despite earning all the achievements and loving HR so long ago, I really recalled so little.

To be fair, that is a good point. It's just that somehow I got under the impression they were greatly stepping up their game with Deus Ex. The quality is pretty much on par with what HR represented in 2011, which is a B grade game with some brilliant parts that made a cult following. I think the initial hype made expectations a bit higher than they should be.

Well they did really step up there game, just not in all areas. Load up HR and spend 10 minutes in Detroit to appreciate how much farther they have been able to take hub design thanks to their new engine. Prague actually feels like a real functioning place. Detroit had apartment buildings that had their main entrances built off alleyways, and in at least one instance, no main entrance to the building at all. All of it's residents,no matter how rich or poor, lived in apartments identically furnished with a mattress on the floor and stacks and stacks of cardboard boxes.

Prague nails that same feeling as Hells Kitchen in the original Deus Ex where it's like "Hmm, let me just poke my head into this door....holy shit there is an entire secret government installation here...this is amazing!".

You can also have moments like (very early MD sidequest spoiler):

The lady cop grabbing her companions to go takedown the fake cop at the checkpoint and a dynamic gun battle occurs in engine with the residents reacting appropriately by running terror.

That was the type of event possible in the original DX that HR could not do.

Did you play DX1? The conspiracy stuff in HR is a tiny, minuscule drop in the bucket compared to what DX1 laid out. It's pretty much the entire foundation of the series- every conspiracy theory you have ever heard is true.

I've already met him.
I've also been to the casino and got what I needed. Do I have to complete more of the main story? I still haven't done anything other than side missions.

I'm getting apretty solid 60 FPS with very occasional drops to 55 on my 1070 (which should be only a tiny bit better than your 980ti) with everythign set to ultra except MSAA off and Contact hardening shadows off too. This is at 1440p. Contact hardening shadwos are bugged ot boot, they remove distant shadows, making the world more flat. Turn them off.

It's kinda worrying that I'm already tired of all the melee animations just from finishing the prologue last time.

There seriously need about a dozen more, and some contextual ones around cover or something.

No freaking clue why they still do this dumb 'cutscene' for melee takedowns. Just have it all in first person to make it more seemless.

I've feel like melee takedowns in stealth games have come a LONG way since human revolution.

During that tutorial I accidentally disabled an aug I desperately wanted to use and enabled an experimental aug I have zero interested in D:

Well you must think the same way about the first game (DE1) then if you think HR was sillyof the conspiracy theories.

It's like the bread and butter of Deus Ex.

Since Human Revolution? The cutscene takedown thing was already ancient in 2011.

Best to just try to forget about it and enjoy the rest of the game. Or avoid doing takedowns altogether.

When I did the tutorial it showed me how to do it, then reset everything when I was done. Is there a second tutorial where the change you select is permanent?

You will barely use melee in this game considering the non lethal options you have, Stun gun, tranquilliser, Tesla shot, gas grenades, PEPS blast, non lethal typhoon and charged Icarus dash. And you can keep all of them in your inventory at once.

If you don't care about non lethal then add in Nano Blade, and the various other guns.

I'm definately enjoying this Deus Ex more so than I did the last entry in the series. The music is great and I'm really diggin' the side missions and the dialogue. There is so much to explore and uncover in this game.

My only complaint thus far (and it's a minor one), is how the unstable aug system works. It's confusing as hell. I had no idea that once I disabled a normal augmentation, it would become permanently disabled.

As Koller says, you don't have to disable augs. But kinda like if you overclock your PC, expect things to get "problematic" the more the % goes up.

Thats nice to hear. I mostly meleed people in HR because ammo was limited.

They are not permanent, after mission

, you'll be able to use all without needing to disable anything.

NOoblet, I just wanted to say thanks for all of your insight and info you've provided in this OT. I didn't get to start my campaign until late yesterday and your tips and info really helped.

With TPP the FOB thing was mandatory for at least one mission and it seemed like the in game research stuff may have been balanced to make the FOB stuff more attractive.

With MD that doesn't seem to be the case. Unless they go in and patch the loot drops after the fact, in game the micro transaction stuff is completely unnecessary to get the full DX experience.

Breach may be a mess, I don't know, but that's not what I bought the game for.
Apparently there are two Augments locked behind DLC as well.

I have to say it's absolutely incredible that not even PC Gamer mentioned the mouse acceleration and mkb UI controls. Are all these reviewers just playing with controller?

Started last night and chose the Human Revolution control scheme, as R3 for taking cover just seemed odd. Overall it seems great, except sprinting seems strange to me. It appears to be a toggle as opposed to you slowing as you release the button. Also, it doesn't seem to always work. There are moments where I'll press the button and he just doesn't run, yet I move to a different spot and he'll take right off. I know it's not an energy issue, so idk.

Breach is a totally separate mode- story mode is free of microtransactions. And the game has New Game+ so you will be swimming in gear after you complete the game once.
Which DLC is single-use? If you want to play a new game with a totally different difficulty / style, does that rule out New Game+ (and thus rule out using the DLC again)?

I assume it's like HR- it's single button press and lasts a finite amount of time, which can be upgraded via augments.

How do you tag enemies?

If you have the augment just aim your pistol at them in iron sights and it should mark them.

My god, the intro story hooks did not grab me at all. Jensen is now with an anti-terrorism organization because guilt? The walk-and-talk with Alex after the credits feels like an information dump of things I have no reason to care about yet. The scene with the dead mom feels forced and hollow. And then all ties to characters from HR get the barest of nods in the call with Sarif? It all feels very disjointed from the ending of HR. I stopped for the night right before leaving the apartment; does it get better in terms of getting invested in this game's narrative?

I'm not a completist in general in games but it's the first time in years i just love to explore everything. I love the fact that BIG thing are pretty hidden and you can totally pass by it if you don't pay attention
like this robert cult
.

Everything is handmade and feel real, there is no pattern and filling like we see too often today. I spent more than 8 hours without barely getting out of the first zone of Prague.

I just love it, GOTY so far. The only downside is the writing is not so hot after the masterpiece that was Witcher 3 first DLC. Well not always.
The part when they force you to choose between saving two people is pretty well made and i actually felt bad for the old man
.

Are you supposed to get an achievement if you keep Singh alive in the intro mission?

I snuck past all the gunfire to disable the chopper and thought for sure I kept him alive, but no achievement.

Yeah so I spent 5 hours playing last night and just got lost in the game, as in absorbed in the world. lol Prague is so densely packed and full of details that it's overwhelming at first because as soon as you step out your apartment you're presented with with numerous directions to go or buildings to enter. Like the
Machinegod
apartment...I don't know if that's going to turn into a mission or anything but just breaking into that apartment and seeing what you see and the visual information all over the place, it's terrific world building and I honestly want to find out more. lol

Art design is on point. I honestly found myself wasting time admiring the architecture or whenever in a conversation I couldn't help but look more closely at how great everyone's wardrobe is. The fashion design is on point and I love the layers with the plastic shirts or sleeves mixed in, makes it looks more of a "Cyberpunk-y Blade Runner clashed with Human Revolution" fashion. lol

I've only done 2 side missions, one of which surprised me because of the multiple choices so early on that could have unfortunate ramifications I might find later on in the ghettos, but just wandering around and encountering cool...and weird shit that starts a mission, like Richard for example lol, has been great.

Overall so far and pretty early in I'm having a blast and I really wanna jump back on but work is getting in the way. :(

PS. Jensen's new apartment is sick. Way better crib than his Detroit apartment. Again beautiful architecture and I love the Icarus design work inscribed in the wood panels of his closet.

PS. PS. Jensen's Human Revolution outfit actually looks great in the new game. The Intruder coat? Not so much.

I thought that would be the case too but it actually works out great, plus the Mankind Divided scheme offers more selections to allocate your augs so you're not just using the D-pad.

Is the OST for this up on iTunes yet? I need it, goddamn I need it.

September 30th. A regular OST and an extended OST.

My god, the intro story hooks did not grab me at all. Jensen is now with an anti-terrorism organization because guilt?

No:

He's hunting down the Illuminati. He has intel from Alex's organisation that they have infiltrated the Task Force so that's why he joined. He is essentially undercover.

It's pretty much exactly what I would have expected of Adam after HR- I figured that he would be investigating the Illuminati and that's exactly what this is.

He has basically become Paul Denton

I did share your misgivings during the Dubai mission but the first moments of Prague cleared all of that for me.

Are any of the day one weapon attachments OP for the beginning of the game? I don't want to have a Super Jensen right off the bat.

Cheers, Gaf.

Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong for persuaion options? Playing on xbox and RT or LT will show up on the screen during certain dialogues but when I hit them nothing happens.

I love the game so far.

My only complaint is about how that miller guy is constantly riding my ass to move on with the mainstory mission. Damnit, this is deus ex, I want to explore and do side missions at my leisure.

If I somehow fail the mission because I took too much time to get to it imma be pissed.
