PS4 with number 4 games for launch.... Uncharted 4 \ Resistance 4 raise of man \ Killzone 4 .

This just gave me a cool idea

What if Resistance 4 story is the human race got hold of the Chimera technology and mastered it/got hold of superior technology? and the human race is invading the Chimera home world and taking control over it? :P

2013 for PS4, believe.

I have thought this for a while now.

I base it on how Naughty Dog went about creating Uncharted.(It probably applies to all previous games too)

Pre-Production "Skunkworks" team of 10 people for a year to develop engine etc.
Then 2 years full production.

They started all this in ~October 2004, over 2 years before PS3 release. If they follow the same path for PS4 then I expect their next game to launch fall/winter 2013/14.

My prediction for PS4 is between spring 2013 and fall 2013. Of course hardware 'problems' could mess this timeline right up...............

Sadly I would guess 2014 is (vastly) more likely than 2012.

Whatever they're aiming for, the possibility exists for slippage. Especially in the chip world. They could try like mad to make 2013, then delay like always happens in video games.

And Cliffy B said "around 2014".

The 360 and Wii were delayed after announcement? The Xbox, PS2 and GameCube were delayed? Come to think of it, the only system previous that was delayed after announcement was the PS3. That would be for an Epic Engine game which would come out 1 year after the systems launched just like this gen so 2013 is the real deal. Announce 2012 and launch 2013. Believe.

What kind of story is it if man isn't suffering?

8 years in the case of 360 on the same, shitty hardware.

How depressing.

why is it depressing, if you want superior hardware you buy a pc. if you don't want to play games on the 360 it's not like you are forced to.

The rumored 2012 nextbox reveal made no sense to me. As a rule companies dont take the spotlight from current products by talking about future ones. Therefore a 2012 e3 reveal for a presumed holiday 2013 nextbox made no sense to me. And all along I've said 2012 was impossible...

So I would dismiss it out of hand, except I remember a suspicious interview with a Microsoft exec where he didn't deny a possible 2012 nextbox reveal.

My guess is either no nextbox reveal in e3 2012 (most likely) or, some sort of extremely vague CG only teaser in e3 2012.

Microsoft could totally get away with showing a few tech demos / trailers about the "next-generation of games" without ever mentioning a new console in the next e3.

i think a "humans somehow taking back their planet" approach would be more likely, but it would be cool to eventually see humans taking the fight to the chimera. would kind of be a killzone situation though.

i'm actually more interested in PSN 2.0 plans than anything hardware related. all of the "missing" features of PSN will surely be there, but what else could they have planned? how does it factor into what devs could be working on now? intredasting...

In other words, the greatest success so far of mass market consumer video games in terms of standardizing a platform for content delivery.

Thanks to that, the 360 has a pretty astounding library; almost unreal by the standards of any consumer game device before it.

Folks better get used to it. We're at a level of visuals that average customer is perfectly happy with now for 3d graphics, so next gen isn't getting replaced with next-next gen in just 4 years more or something.

Forza 4 - Next Box
Uncharted 4 - PS4

Yes. I say yes to this news.

They better have some powerful launch titles because in 2013 to get people to spend their money on their $399-499 machines.

I don't really care about the Wii U as the graphical leap will be a stop gap to the other two.

I really don't want another Resistance or Killzone :/
Well it could be good on a new hardware. I don't care about Resistance now but I definitely want to see a new Killzone game.

That's bullshit, they say this every time, 'everyone is perfectly happy with PS2 why would they want more?', they need to push technology and they can do it affordable at this point. Real proof however are Battlefield 3 and Crysis 2 which both run or look like ass on consoles because consoles can't keep up anymore. The Xbox 360 launched in 2005 these things are ancient. When it comes to specs relative to the technology that is available right now we have like 2 Wii's on the market(PS3/Xbox 360) and an N64(Wii).

November 2013 is "around 2014".

The next-gen Xbox releases, in the US at least, November 12, 2013 (11-12-13).

Letting MS have a 1 year lead was a bad idea. Fool on them if they let MS get ahead next gen again.
If Sony gives MS a one year lead and Nintendo 2/3(?) years lead they might as well not bother with a new console.

2 more years of current consoles is a bit long, the new ones better be beasts if they are waiting until 2013.

In terms of programmable flops, they'll be 50x better than the current generation of consoles due to architectural improvements, more ram, more bandwidth, and FAR more transistors.
50x is conservative if they want to use reasonably priced and mature parts.

Hopefully Samsung reads this and thinks "haha another brand of Sony we can destroy" and announces like a console that beats the shit out of what is currently in the market. We could use a new player in this space to keep everyone on their toes.

I'd expect Apple to announce a console before Samsung ever does.

I think with Kaz running things he will wait as long as possible to make sure the launch is highly polished. They'll probably be a Ultra-Blu-Ray format to accomodate higher movie frame rates thanks to The Hobbit and Avatar plus 4k resolution. A proper GPU that will scale up to 4k. A mic head-set bundled with the console so people actually talk on-line. Dual shock with split sticks and excellent rumble feedback. Hopefully the ability to link two PS4 together to play 3d games at a high frame rate and resolution.

Maybe Microsoft did pick the Bulldozer as their chip and they need to start again from scratch.

If anything AMD needs these consoles on the market they might not even survive otherwise because they plan to piledrive themselves into the ground in the CPU market.

Uncharted 4 or new franchise at launch window for PS4 = sold.
You can almost be certain that ND will be working a new title for PS4 at this point. Their ICE team has likely been working on stuff for a little bit. I'm not in their offices so of course it's all speculation.

What Sony needs to do is make flagship titles for different game genres and not have multiple first party studios working on first person shooters and stuff. I'd want the PS4 to have a flagship RPG, Action/adventure game, 3rd person shooter, 1st person shooter, open-world game, etc.

I once heard even Naughty Dog team members can't enter their offices :P

I'm going to be controversial and say that not only will both consoles be out in 2013, but Sony will be out at least a month before Microsoft, even if it is only in one region.

Or eventually a new FPS IP will stick and become big. That's more likely than them producing a RPG and it selling.

It isn't that simple. They need to invest a gigantic amount to create brand awareness and get third party support. With this competitive climate it will be simply impossible for Samsung. Only Apple can do this.

I am going to be even more controversial and say that the PS4 will be a rebranded xbox 720 with some minor differences in OS software etc.

Just ask MS how painful entering the console space can be.

Only you saw a few years ago that mass market was perfectly happy with last gen graphics, bland visuals didn't hinder Wii's success at all and PS2 kept selling well until this year.

The mass market also bought 100 million+ HD consoles that are around $299 or higher in price.

But the visuals weren't really what caused the succes of the Wii.

I really see Halo 4 being the 360s last BIG first party title, nicely sewing up 2012. I can't see a new system launch in 2012 along with a big title like Halo 4 taking some spotlight. I easily can see MS launching the next Xbox sometime in early or mid 2014 though. I can see a 2013 E3 reveal and then a launch that holiday season with a new FABLE and Alan Wake 2 ect.

So, 2-3 years from now for a new Xbox or Playstation. I am very curious to see what will be released over the next 2-3 years to sustain software sales on the current consoles. That seems like a long ways away for systems that seemingly are winding down significantly after this year.

The mass market did not, enthusiasts did, with the help of the mass market in recent years. And it's things like online services, lower prices/better deals and new ways of playing games that drove mass market adoption, not better visuals. Killzone sells way less than Call of Duty, even though it looks much better.

I wonder what routes will these systems take?

High motion control focus? A mix of traditional and motion controls? High power and expensive price? Low in power and cheap in price?
