God it was so amazing.

Is it really piracy though? I mean this show doesn't even air in my country, what harm am I doing by downloading and watching it?

I'm not taking a stand on the issue, I'm just saying it's still piracy.

Just watched - piracy debate aside, my view as an amateur TV critic is that critics will eventually get the episode early, and so in order to best review it/cover it I can do the same, so long as I don't spoil it and the like. Entirely ethical? Of course not, but I certainly don't feel I'm abusing the series by any means.

I liked it, mostly - a lot of cool stylistic touches, an interesting season setup, all good things.

Less good? The stuff beyond Dexter, as per usual - I remain fascinated that the show believes some of it is actually interesting, to be honest.

As for the ending, which was debated earlier,
I think that there's really two schools of thought on this. One is that Dexter had the body in the trunk, and that because of this he would be putting himself in danger of getting caught with the body parts - that's the cliffhanger, in other words. However, at the same time, is Dexter being in a serious car accident not cliffhanger enough? And would he really go to a Pharmacy with a body in the trunk? And risk going home with the body in the trunk (since the medication was sitting right there)? I know he was rushing but part of that doesn't make sense to me.

I'll be curious to see how it's all clarified in time.

I am watching S3 right now, and I have to say; I find it a lot weaker than the other 2. Although Lila was incredibly annoying in S2 ("Dextaaaaaaa" fuck off you skinny witch), it still had great atmosphere and tension with Doakes and Lundy vs. Dexter. S3 just has new annoying characters (the Prado's, Quinn and Amado) and very little tension to speak off. That being said, i'm only half in (ep 5), so does it get any better?

i loved season three. the acting by miguel and dexter hits an all time high and is just amazing towards the end. very compelling imo

ok, finished watching now.

great first episode. The ending has me excited for episode 2.

Also, John Lithgow is awesome. I hope he gets some more screen time.

Watching the first episode right now, the intro always makes me excited. :D

Totally agree. I actually disliked season 3, boring and had no real tension. Missed someone like Doakes a lot.

They've set up the Dexter vs The Dark Passenger really well, adding the pressures of an adopted family and new baby (I thought the distorted entrance scene was excellent). Looking forward to Dexter vs Trinity Killer (potentially vs Lundy), considering Lithgow guest starring and the Miguel story line being the highlight of last season.

Honestly don't give a shit about the love triangle and inter-work relationships, they've always been second rate.

While I missed Doakes a ton, I thought Miguel Prado was a fucking outstanding character and really enjoyed watching the evolution of his and Dexter's friendship. I loved season 3 more than season 1 but less than 2.

I watched the episode last night, and I didn't think it was very good to be honest. I'm not a believer in John Lithgow's character at this point. And the way Lundy discovered there even was a Trinity Killer was ridiculous. He was like there's no proof and everyone thinks I'm crazy, but I think there is this guy that kills in threes. And then Dexter was like TOTALLY! ....Give me a break!

And I saw way too much of Lithgow's ass.

Well, I think Dexter
was convinced there was something going on when they found out that an identical homicide had been committed at that house in 1979.

This show, like any, requires a certain amount of disbelief. I mean how is it that Miami conveniently gets a new serial killer every year?

After waiting for so long, its great to see this show again, one of my favorites. Pretty much all the main characters are likable.

Dexter - Funny to see him try to manage a family and his life at the same time.
Rita - Always good to see that hot face.
Aster - Looking better than ever.
Cody - Always fun to watch.
Misuke - Always funny.
Deb - Please get back with Lundy.

what? hes been following the Trinity Killer for, i forgot, 20 years or so? hes seen similar murders and believes they are connected, but others just ignore them as separate cases.

you need to pay attention

I hate people hating on S3 :( S1 >>>> S3 > S2

Solid premiere. I like the surprisingly simple setup for the season - can Dexter pull off everything (father/brother/husband/career/dark passenger) at once? There was lots of the trademark Dexter humor to be found. Singing "America The Beautiful" to his kid over the phone while simultaneously looking at photos of corpses was wickedly amusing.

The only thing I didnt jive with was Quinn. It seems like they are trying to mold him into Doakes 2.0, and we dont need that.

Remains to be seen about Quinn, but yeah, I don't want him to now become the guy at the office who becomes suspicious of Dexter's behavior. I think it'd be okay if he's the new guy who's just an asshole to Dexter all the time, though Doakes is irreplaceable.

They really need to make the next person who becomes suspicious of Dexter his sister, which I assume they're leading up to, since it's too potentially juicy to leave alone (even if it is fairly predictable). Probably saving it for the final couple seasons (if this isn't one).

I do believe that S5 is going to be the last one (hopefully), and I do agree that Deb HAS to has find out eventually.

I think his timing was way to convenient.

Man, Lithgow really is an amazing addition to the cast. I really do have high hopes for the season after seeing the first episode.

I gotta agree with a couple of people here that season 2 was the best out of the bunch so far. Season 1 served as the foundations and we sorta saw all that crumble around Dexter in season 2. Of all the compelling shows i've watched (Wire, Sopranos, Battlestar) Dexter is probably the most fun and definitely the funniest. The chemistry and writing between Dex and Doakes was amazing:

I'd fuck LaGuerta so hard.
Damn straight, I neved thought she'd end up with that dude. Dexter needed to hit that HARD

She better get naked at lease once

does the leaked episode have any nudity at all? My mum's visiting and she's ok with just about anything but nudity (then I feel all awkward watching it)

Yes. Is your mom attracted to John Lithgow by any chance?
