Keys to games through third-party sites yes, but this is rather the fault of Steam itself and the lack of control over the distribution of keys, this is a very dark market and the origin of these keys is very foggy. If we talk about prices in the stores themselves directly, then options can always be found. Switch yes there are certain problems, but you can find options although it is difficult and the discounts will not be very big, from the advantages of Nintendo games very well retain their price and practically do not get cheaper, and often even become more expensive.

That's why i don't buy anymore from sites that have stupidly low prices like 20 euros or lower, i only buy from those that are considered safe and "legal".

I only buy directly from steam during the offers but most of the time their offers are crap compared to external keys.

PS5 is 500bux, controller 70bux (x4 for estimate) so that's almost 800 bux. I will have to buy like 50 games, which I never do, at full price to match my PC rig (and I didn't count any cost for games purchase for PC).

If we talk about "master race" we talk about top end PCs which "in the long run" (lifetime of console) are still more expensive than consoles.

Spending 5k+ on a gaming PC must be fully liquid custom watercooled.

You can spend half that and get an absolute BEAST of a PC that destroys current and future consoles probably. Worst case you drop a new GPU in in a few years.

Yes the initial cost is high if you want a decent rig (mine will be around $1100 all in but I figure a console times X years of ps + will be close to the same.) I have even seen crazy black friday deals like pre-builts with a 4060 in them for $700. This thread isn't about the hardware though it's about the software.

So I did my research before I started getting my game collection up and decided I was not going to stick to one store front. I will have a 4070 so will probably use the Geforce experience as my front end. (normally you can scan your pc and it will put all installed games,) The other sweet thing is some game it will optimize them for you with a click of a button. I have used gg.deals and store fronts like GOG and shopping sales when I can. I was shocked to discover how much I have acquired for so little cost. Keep in mind that new games on the PS5/Xbox are starting at $69.99 but they love the upsell special editions for $99.99. My god is PC gaming so much cheaper than I thought possible. These aren't games I lose access too if I stop paying a subscription fee. These are games that I "digitally own." I will Provide the Library I have acquired of a span less than 2 weeks and reveal the shocking cost of it all.

I was going over my paypal account and I thought fuck me man, I must of spent a fortune buying these games. Yes many are Indie but almost all are highly regarded. I was expecting to calcuate some crazy number but was shocked when I caluclated it:

I always thought Pc gaming was for rich elitist but am quickly learning that in the long run it is cheaper. My apologies!

PC gaming is awesome! But there are issues with it that's not exactly as common on console. I googled "driver issue PC gaming reddit" for the last week and got a plethora of examples of random drivers causing issues. Searching the same for PS5 gave mostly PC related issues and some PS5 software issues. I have basically zero tolerance for my games not starting and having to research the problem on forums instead of just having fun.

That's ok. People find them useless on any platform anyways. I take my bloody damn time with my games. I have impossible achievements and platinums on both sides. They can be done. What others can think is moot. Also, you can smell the cheaters a mile away with 1s unlocks on all their games.

I have like over 200 games in Steam, a good portion which were gifts from friends. Gotta love the monthly deals. Capcom does one like every month. As long as the games don't crash or run into problems, it's a big relief to save tons of money.

People are stubborn though and can't see a deal due to their brand loyalty.

PC is the best place to play. It's just a fact. You can design the system to exactly what you are looking for. Lose all the expensive walled garden shit and 99 percent of the time have the best experience.

It is not a fact. Use case matters and most people do not want a PC in their living room. For a lot of folks, you start talking about CPU and GPU and their eyes are going to glaze over and they will say "fuck it, I'm buying a PlayStation". That has nothing to do with "brand loyalty" and everything to do with getting the simplest solution. "Best" is highly subjective.

On the flip side, you are right, if you want a customized gaming experience, PC is the only way to really do that. Considering most PC gamers target 1080p gaming, the hardware investment can be as low as what it costs for consoles and then sky is the limit. Then you have multiple store fronts to buy games with multiple service-based options as well. Total freedom in accessories that you don't get on consoles. And thanks to efforts like Proton, we are no longer tied to Windows. Linux expand our options even further. And all that before we even get to stuff like mods. It is an entirely different paradigm than consoles.

If you really want to be cheap there are "gray" areas too. Buying keys and such from other sites. Sometimes you'll save 1 or 2 dollars, other times, huge amounts. This is my GOG library, all of this was free except Cyber Punk, Days Gone, Brigador and Loco Motive. Plus I have 93 games on Epic Games Store there were completely free, the majority from Amazon, with some from the Epic free games. They're also giving away Mafia Definitive Edition on amazon.

i just bought Balatro on CDkeys. £7 for the code. even with the sale on steam right now it's £10 something.

I know, but the result is the same: you're at the mercy of Sony's pricing. Back then, retailers always had PS+ 12-month cards 50% off during the holidays. Same for Xbox Live Gold. Now, it's only 20%, 25%, and 30% for Essential, Extra, and Premium respectively.

The last time I paid for PS+ was perhaps in 2017 and it was $35 because it was $70 CAD at the time and I got it 50% off. Now with the 20% discount, it's $72 CAD for the lowest tier or $135 for the highest tier with a 30% discount.

Bollocks. It's not the 90's anymore.

My last build was 10 years old and i only did a single $300 GPU upgrade midway through. And i could still play current gen games at 30-40 fps/1080p/high settings. I even played Elden Ring at high settings/40 fps stable VRR with it so it was better than the PS4 port.

With consoles you have to buy a new one every 5-6 years.

Of course they are. Look, just go to NYC in Little Italy, corner of Canal and Grand.

You will see a back of a pizza store and couple big trucks plus a few dudes in leather jacket. Ask for Tony, tell him StereoVSN sent you and he will cut you a great deal on any PS5 game you want! They might even have a PS5 Pro drive!

Anyway, congrats on your new rig and games. Yep, if you're willing to show some patience and diligence checking a price tracker every blue moon you can routinely get excellent deals. And the patience part is easier than ever since Steam in particular has more frequent sales than they used to. Although those old sales with fairly new games at 90% off were the stuff of legends. I'm playing DQ8 for the first time and enjoying it so DQ11 on Steam for $20 is looking mighty tempting
