I really have a love-hate relationship with Blizzard. Or more specifically, with Authenticator.

For the second time, I've had to replace my phone before I could go on to battle.net to remove the authenticator. For those not aware, if you plan on changing the device you have your authenticator attached to, you have to first go online to battle.net and go through a process of removing authenticator from your account entirely. Then you can install authenticator on your new device and sync it with that. But if your phone breaks, you're SOL until Blizzard Support can get around to removing it from your account for you.

And so I begin the process of waiting 2 days to get Authenticator removed so I can play D3 again.

#venting
If you're using the mobile authenticator, just write down the sync code so you can re-setup the authenticator on your new phone without Blizzard's intervention/going through B.net.

Okay patch is up in EU, time to level my wizard to 60.

Looks like everyone is already paragon 577742 and farming mp8045, but if you want to play low level anyway add Mokhnaar#2902.

I have to say that I am genuinely impressed they handled this without a rollback, good shit to them. Only thing I got out of all of that was about 27 million from selling Flawless Topaz Squares since I had been sitting on over a thousand of them since launch (I have no interest in WD/Wiz, and they're useless otherwise).

As someone who has 2 lvl 60 toons and 1.5 mil in the bank I think it fucking sucks that people have made so much money that it effectively makes the AH useless for peeps like myself. I'm not having a crack at you, or anyone one else who made bank from selling gems/weaps etc, but unless top tier loot actually drops for me, or recipes are super cheap to buy, I feel like the game has just gotten a little far out of my reach.

The funny thing is, I only just started playing again a week ago and was really feeling the changes, loving the wiz and DH. I think I'll slog on for a while and see how the economy settles. If shit is stupid expensive then might just try and finish inferno and be done with it.

Feel pretty sorry for bliz through this. Even though it's a really stupid mistake for them to make, I felt like they were well on the right track fixing most of the fixable stuff.

They're banning everyone who has partaken in that glitch. Those people should be pretty obvious to spot and ban.

This. Also jns it is WAY easier to get decent stuff for cheap now, look around on the official forums or reddit, for most builds/classes there will be budget guides that can get you going on decent MP levels for usually sub 10 million. I agree with your sentiment, but I don't think there's that barrier to entry there was before.

I'm loving the bump in monster density with this patch. There's just numbers all over the screen now all the time. The extra XP from that (killing huge mobs) and the bonus from playing in a party is huge. I've gained 3 PLs since yesterday.

I did buy 4 emeralds yesterday from the RMAH, but I think I only got to sell two of them, which put me up to 275mil. I had held off selling the others to see if it'd go higher, but they took the auction house down by then.

Now we just need that itemization patch in 2015 and we'll be set!

10 mil is like, months of work for me lol. Its not the people who glitched all the gold that is the problem, its all the gold they spread through the economy. If someone made an easy 100 mil and they want to bid on an amulet, I have no chance to beat them. Like I said, I'll see how things settle down before cracking the sads and writing blizz a nasty letter :p

Months ? You are easily getting 500k+ per hour on inferno not counting the item drops.

edit: since i can't play now can someone tell me how is monster density in A4? I got nice tyrael armor with +14 dmg for deamons so i wonder if it would be good farming place :)

That's great news. When I first starting playing (when the game came out) I rolled a WD and Inferno just fucking ruined me totally. I was spending more money repairing my shit than I was making. In order to get through, I was going to have to use the AH, which is fine, but i could never afford anything good lol.

I've only just got my wiz to 60 so have only just started inferno.

Cheers for the heads up; perhaps not all doom and gloom for me :)

Damn, fucking glitch and no rollback.
I hope they can track down all those transactions and reverse them... this damage to the economy can be the real endgame for many players including me.
By endgame I mean calling it quits ofc lol.

And damn Ferguson left ManU damn, what a couple of days....

Ummm, 1.5 mil can get you really far if you play the AH smart. Witching Hour which is the best in slot for many classes and builds can be had for as low as 200k a week ago.

The game is a lot more noob friendly now because ofMP levels and low to mid tier endgame items rapidly deflating in value.

Well, as long as they can efficiently ban those who exploited, hopefullty that will minimize the economic damage.

And Sir Alex is retiring? Well, at least he went out on top, right? ManU did win Premier League this year, I think (we get some coverage of it here in the US).

Thanks for the info mate. Is there a site/forum that details some of the good and cheap stuff? Or is more a case of knowing the game well enough to understand what's a good deal and what isn't?

Cheers :)

Bad mistake.... IMHO

I agree. Unless they can reverse all the transactions made with the duped money, it is going to be pretty terrible. Very few people were needed to make billions, maybe trillions of damage already. I'm not talking about the duping only, I'm talking about all the ways this money has been put in circulation and exchanged many hands already. I for example sold a few gems, then bought 3 items. Are they going to "deal with" all these transactions too? Because that is most likely duped money.

They could have done a rollback no problem if only they brought down the servers immediately after it happened, but Blizz seemed clueless when everyone else knew what was going on.

I agree with this post on reddit on why no rollback doesn't really matter, aka people are overblowing this a bit: http://www.reddit.com/r/Diablo/comments/1dx5sc/duping_forecast_or_why_you_shouldnt_panic_because/

I think this redditor grossly underestimates the amount of gold that has been added to the economy, and the fact that he omits altogether the effect of the mid tier players making tons of gold on gems which will impact the mid-tier market almost exclusively makes him less than credible.

I got a bunch of money yesterday from the gem thing, but I'm just going to hold on to it until things die down a bit. It would be stupid to spend 200mil on an item now when it'll drop down to a couple million in a month or less.

I would imagine blizzard knows how much money is in the economy. After the bans, I got a feeling most of the damage was taken care off. The economey was already inflated at the top anyway. I'm not concerned.

I had fun last night too. The increased mob density is kick ass as well as the party exp gain.

I think they should take back all the gold made from selling gems yesterday. I'm serious, they have the logs, they should seize it and delete all of it, because now there are billionaires that had literally had their fortunes spring up in the spam of hours. It's the only way to stop the bleeding of all the excess, duped gold in the economy.

OH! OR I wonder if they can mark gold like bills, see which gold was created on what day based on its code. That would be the process so much easier and efficient, because right now I see this virtual investigation slowing down the itemization patch and killing the forward momentum this game was generating with the last couple of patches.

I also agree, I have a few more casual friends and they were completely unaware of the dupe if the transactions are reversed then no long term harm would be done.

No one is taking into account that the big players like the streamers have been banned, that if anything will have a larger effect in the market since they were the ones selling and buying top tier items.

I dont think you are counting how much of that gold is likely to be pulled out of the economy. Right now you cannot even really spend it on anything but BOA gear crafting and gems at best. Plus we don't know how deeply they are going to remove the gold that squeeked out. You also need to consider the bans. A ban on a single duping person can wipe out the billions they had on their account in one swipe.

With no ETA on gold transfer/trading and the Auction Houses, theres no way to know how much this will effect anything. They may root out a LOT of those transactions. Also like Zv said, banning a lot of those prominent streamers and multibotters will have its effect too. Those guys were the mega rich of the game.

Also a lot of the people freaking out and saying there were untold trillions floating out there is probably unfounded; that was based largely on that one hilarious screenshot which Blizzard is saying is fake now: http://us.battle.net/d3/en/forum/topic/8769577993?page=2#21

Lets say for the sake of discussion there is a few trillion out there that hasn't been pulled and stays in circulation (which given how rich you had to be to even do the dupe to start with plus the relatively short window this was up I think that number may be high, but no one outside Blizzard knows).

-Given how rich you had to be to start it, even if account for the big streamers buying 2 bil buyouts and then every single one of those people duping I can't imagine more than a few hundred people activel duped gold, and I think that may a bit generous. With bans being handed out to the big offenders that probably immediately killed most of the duped gold.

-Even assuming that the remaining gold got spread out via gem auctions or items, most people (like here on GAF) "only" benefited to the tune of maybe a few hundred million. While that's a lot of money to most players, and end game top level gearing that isn't shit. Any meaningful upgrade to my DH is over a hundred mil, and WAY more than that for several slots. This means that rich people either got a bit richer, or lower level people get upgrades, but nowhere near god tier status...and that's already the case. Its not GOOD that its out there, but outside of probably gem prices being wack for a while this doesn't change the status quo in any meaningful way.

I don't think there could be more than 1k-2k people who took advantage of this situation in any serious capacity.

The number of people who 1) play regularly, 2) would be online during the 2-3 hours this exploit was discovered and used, and 3) Had the money to seriously take advantage of it, and 4) Found out about the exploit fast enough would be a very small percentage of the total user base.

People who managed to earn 20-30 million from gems or something are not a problem for the economy as a whole. Rooting out the 1k people who have a chance to really distort the market should be the real goal and isn't actually all that complicated.

Agreed. Permaban those accounts and don't look back.

Cool, the patch came out yesterday. Sounds like some AH issues came with it as well, lol.

Guess I'll hop into Diablo III tonight for the first time in weeks and check out the new monster density in every place other than Act III for a change. Doesn't sound like much else was changed though?

I'm perfectly okay with the dupers getting Permaband. There's something about Inigo's face and personality that just makes me want to punch him.

Increased exp gain and gives people an exp multiplier for playing in groups. You can identify all now too. The mob density is the big one here though as it opens up areas besides act III to farm efficiently.

Don't know why it took so long to introduce an "Identify All" option.

I mean, really, what is the point of Identifying Rares. They might as well just spawn with the stats.

Thinking about quitting. Selling everything on rmah and cash out .
I tried so hard and spent hundreds of dollars to make my monk 200k unbuffed dps, with all these gold dupes, some scrub probably get 300k unbuffed without even trying. They don't even have to buy gg items, they can just craft. Cause they have billions of gold. Like buying lottery that has much better winning rate with free money.

I really hope they cut down on rare drops but tighten up their stat rolls. Right now most yellows are just blues.

You have to play to craft as you need the essenses. I just finished from a break though so I know how it feels to need to take a step away for a while.

Doesn't matter, they can buy some decent mid tier items get like 150k dps then start farming demonic.
They have the free money to go into Casino. All they need is an airline ticket to Vegas.

I have 400-500 demonic saved up just by play mp6-8 public runs and some mp10 uber and key runs in past 2 weeks. 1-2 hours a day.

Haven't played in two months, don't even want to launch the game for 1.08 .... waiting until august is crazy. There is literally no point to this game right now, other than rolling HF rings. Every yellow is shit, and 3/4's of the legendary's are horrible. I'd do 7-8 hr days and get nothing of value, what the hell is the point? Granted this was 2 months ago ... maybe less actually, but they haven't touched itemization in this 1.08 patch so I am assuming its still the same even with mob density increased. Really a bummer , this could be such an epic game if the loot didn't suck .....

Is it safe to play public with strangers? Probably a silly question, but my previous memories of it was back in the first month of launch when people were getting their accounts hacked and all that mess.

I've been playing publics for a while now, and had no problems. You might want to have an authenticator just in case though.

Have you tried rolling the new archon gear?
I got upgrades to my gloves (which was tough considering a had a good trifecta pair), new shoulders, new bracers and new amulet all from crafting. Each one of those pieces would have cost me 100m+ to replace if I were to buy it on the AH

Of course bro. Still would be nice to get drops that are not horrible all the time though. I don't want to farm gold so I can craft, or flip on AH to buy stuff. I want to get items from killing shit. It's probably never going to happen I just need to accept it.
