[Digital Foundry] Star Wars Jedi Survivor PS5 Pro: Severe Image Quality Problems... But RT in Performance Mode Is Nice

XXL is already here making bait posts to try and distract from discussing the video he doesn't like, it's quite cute actually
I love this video. I even liked on YouTube.

I've just had an awakening.

I want to play the most amount of games made by lesbians that have puppies in them, so I've been playing more games on PC.

Nothing new about PSSR kinda suck at low res upscale.

Something new here Is EA lie? There is no 1200p even in the upper range?

Damn, just drop RT already, and bring game res close to 1300p average. What a bunch of stubborn devs.

Interesting, there is 1 win for PSSR and it is one of the most important win. PSSR is sharper in motion than even DLSS, so in higher rest it should perform the same.
They tested the quality mode as well, resolution are often in excess of 1440p and the PSSR stability issues are still extremely apparent. Frankly PSSR has got a ways to go before it's really competing with DLSS.

They decided to bring back RT Reflections, RT GI, RT AO in Performance Mode and didn't notice how pathetic the sub-720p necessary to do so looked, and how broken the new AO looked?

Funny GIF
Imo devs, specially 3rd party, should just allow users to configure the game to their liking just as on PC. Keep the usual "modes" for the users that don't want to deal with that but at least give the option to those that would love to configure stuff like RT or upscaling to their liking.

RT requires alot of bandwidth and the pro does not have alot of bandwidth.

The game average around 900p. Yes not a good look.

All these negative PS5 Pro threads have truly broken our boy. I pray for you little man! Godspeed

Who is working at Respawn these days?

Looks like they don't have OLED tvs. Can't see issues otherwise.

Are they still pretending that Series X don't exist in the same world as PlayStation Pro?

I wonder how long they will keep it going.

PSSR will get better. DLSS was rough out the gate. People were talking mad shit about it and deservedly so. Rite of passage. PSSR likely won't become special until PS6. These Pro owners are beta testers like I was for DLSS buying a 2080TI.
Yea, at the moment. Low resolution upscale is not looking good. It needs at least 1200p but 1440p is the sweet spot and look quite good.

Details which could be interesting the last patch for Jedi Survivor seems to date from September 12 and we know via MLID that the PSSR got an update from v9.0 to 9.4 in September which fixed a lot of problems on the image quality that it had so that could mean that Jedi Survivor does not use the latest version of the PSSR.

I think 900p would be perfectly fine for the performance mode… if PSSR was better. Just look at the comparable 900p DLSS shots, it looks pretty good. That instability issue is kind of killing PSSR right now and I'm pretty surprised that it launched in this state. Although perhaps it's not that surprising, Nvidia thought DLSS 1.0 was a good idea after all.

They are compaeing the latest tech to the best tech, don't know how the Series X could be relevant here.

Like FSR. What makes DLSS the GOAT is it can go extremely low and still maintain adequate stability. Nintendo is in for a treat.

The sooner a new tech is on the market, the sooner the developers start getting that sweet, sweet user feedback. Basically like an early-access game, but with tech.

Absolutely, should be the minimum really. You don't force your sub-720p and broken AO on customers when it would be possible to play in an infinitely better state on the same machine.

Also that AO crap looks the same as the also broken Silent Hill 2. Both Unreal Engine, although SH2 is 5 and Survivor should be 4.

Yea, image stability is really apparent in this game. Even TLOU2 have this issue, but the overall image quality still alot better. Maybe PSSR don't play nice with RT here. Of course PSSR still have a way to before it comparable to DLSS in term of stability.

This game has been a technical nightmare on every platform since it released. I did not expect PS5 Pro to fix this reality.

Even performance mode on PS5 was just rotten with texture pop-in, and weird horrible looking technical issues. Just completely immersion breaking stuff constantly.
Technical nightmare and they still haven't realized that Jedi Knight Jedi Outcast perfected Sabre combat 20 years ago: you should be able to destroy and slice through everything and everyone with a laser sword. Trees and boxes aren't even dented in this series and it just ruins it for me.

They've had an angle for every game they've tested on PRO.

I haven't heard the difficult to recommend line for years though.

Agree at this point. The evidence is here.

So devs should only use PSSR with high enough base res at least 1200p like FF7R otherwise, there Is no point at the moment.

I'll be serious for a second.

Go through my comment history. PC is my main platform and Baldur's Gate 3 is my GOTG. I primarily play VR games.

You guys literally can't handle people shitting up your threads.

You are by far the most sensitive group.

Can confirm that the game looks terrible on the pro. The amount of shimmering is unbelievable.

You're just embarrassing yourself bro, quit while you're behind.

They spent so much time implementing RT into the game during development that they have a Sunk Cost Fallacy about it. Can't let it go. Hurts their soul that they failed on that front.
