00:00 - Overview
01:56 - Base PS5 Performance Re-Test on Patch 1.5
03:51 - PS5 Pro Speed Mode Tests
09:16 - PS5 Pro Quality Mode Tests
11:11 - Verdict
As one of the year's surprise hits, Space Marine 2 receives a PS5 Pro upgrade that attempts to address two key issues with the base PS5 game: its performance at 60fps, and its image quality in that very same mode. The turnout for Pro hardware owners is a pleasing one overall - especially with PSSR in place to assist matters - but there is still a performance gap in locking down a solid 60fps.

Analysis notes from adamsapple adamsapple :

- "One of the more worthwhile upgrades"
- PSSR used in both Quality and Speed (performance) mode
- Quality: Native 1080p to 2160p DRS with PSSR
- Speed: Native 1080p to 1440p DRS with PSR

Revisiting OG:
- Base PS5: 30 FPS always ran good but Speed mode was 35~60fps, further patches have improved it 5~10 FPS compared to launch.
- VRR still slips below the 48fps range, and stress areas (flame thrower) still drops to mid 30's.
- SX still runs better than base PS5 with both on latest patches.

PS5 Pro:
- Visual settings are all the same as base PS5 (texture quality, draw distance, foliage etc)
- PSSR helps improve IQ with crisper outlines compared to blurry resolve on base PS5
- Downside is that it can look over sharpened sometimes, especially on grass.

- Performance is closer to 60fps and an improvement over base PS5, up to ~5 to ~10 fps advantage over base PS5
- Still has lurches to ~45 fps. More often at 60fps than base PS5 and more palatable for VRR displays
- The same flame thrower fight drops to 40~, where base PS5 drops to mid 30's.
- PS5 Pro can and SX are trading frame rate with SX being a few frames faster in some scenes and PS5 Pro being faster in some battles.

- Quality mode
- Base was already crisp and clear, so PSSR's improvement is a less notable upgrade than Speed mode
- Still runs at 30fps without any drops ala base PS5, even in the flamethrower segment.

Verdict:
- IQ improvements in speed mode are the most notable improvement
- VRR owners will gain the most advantage despite some moments still dropping below threshold
- DF thinks a 40fps mode would be great here.

Another PSSR success?

So is it a hardware issue or a developer one?

This doesn't have any RT on the console version, games without RT have mostly been good up-scales (Stella, Rebirth etc).

The clip they showed looked like they both go up and down similarly, maybe Pro is better on average but they look like they're trading blows.

Most likely, if you had watched and listened to Mark Cerny’s nearly 40-minute official presentation on the PS5 Pro, you wouldn’t be asking this question.
I believe it takes more time, effort, resources, and experience to develop on the PS5 Pro to truly see its benefits. Wouldn’t you agree ?

Agreed.

My comment was a backhanded comment towards those who take less than a handful of games as the thesis for bashing the Pro, the same games that struggled with their PC versions as well with ML options out of the gate. I was poking fun at those disingenuously insecure people. Edited original post for more clarity.

What did i say.
The pro is worth a buy in 6 months once devs start to use it propper
That is why I plan to purchase ps5 pro next year. I'm sure that development tools are better and PSSR ML more mature. And next year there will be bunch of great games that I'm sure will be build with ps5 pro in mind like GOY, DS2, MHW, Wolverine, etc.

from the DF eurogamer article

"A frame-rate comparison to Series X also shows mixed fortunes. With each console updated to patch 1.5, Series X still has a 5fps advantage over PS5 Pro during the opening cutscene, though the result tends to favour PS5 Pro as we make the same run into the battlefield. Overall, the speed mode clearly benefits from Sony's new hardware: it's smoother in its overall frame-rate, and with a sharper image to boot, but it does have a few rough spots still to address"

When the patch first dropped, they started the fud on here. Wasn't long ago. I told I guy I didn't believe their down and out bullshit about this patch and wouldn't believe anyone until DF came out.

Then I abandoned that thread, and now here we are.

Okay fellas, anybody wanna talk that fake shit about the patch now? I feel sorry for yall, lol. Feels good man.
