DIRT 5 | PlayStation 5 Special Look | Gameplay and Next-Gen Details

I said the framerate, you honestly cant tell that the Pro version is running at a much lower framerate (30fps). I always thought people like you were taking the piss lol.

Lol, nope.
Really can't.

If the pop in is caused by streaming assets chocking it will help. If pop in is due to GPU rendering load, it won't.
Both consoles will stream enough data in to the RAM. On top of this we have much better efficiencies such as SFS and whatever Sony have in this department.
All the pop in and LOD we have seen on both XSX and PS5 is due to GPU and RAM, not the SSD speeds.

Wait its only 30fps on the Pro?

no that video is showing the 30 fps mode against the XsX standard 60. there is a 60 fps mode on both PS4 PRO and XoX and the differences ar ethings like lower quality shadows and less trackside detail .

Ah right, i didnt realize there were 2 modes on current gen. Its not a very 'fair' video then really, they should of done the 60fps mode. It would of been nice to see actually, see what extra detail the next gen version has over current gen.

One thing I noticed with this PS5 footage is no screen tearing. Apparently this has been fixed in an upcoming patch on Xbox but it is nice to finally see a next gen version of the game without the screen tearing.

its already fixed. it was bad on last gen consoles but the new patch fixed it completely as well as the frame rate issues at the start of the races.

Did that fix already get deployed? I heard it was still coming. Glad that it is fixed though because from the footage it was really bad.

Lol, nah my eyesight is excellent. No problem reading text from the other side of a large room nor reading up close. I can just see 30FPS perfectly too.
30fps to 60fps is such a huge difference, especially in racing games. DOUBLE the fluidity and apparently people can't even notice, nuts i tells ye!

Yeah I know what you're talking about, and it's not funny to feel ABS in our wet season as you might get fucked. :lollipop_tears_of_joy:

That's why I pay for full insurance + offroad insurance. If I feel the slightest danger, would simply jump off the car.:lollipop_fearful:

Yooooo, them PS5 graphics is dope!

I guess they cut corners with the N64 foggy draw distance however.

I actually agree with you. When I first saw the video I was analyzing the graphics and lighting. It wasn't until I started looking for frame rate was when I noticed the difference. Karen and little Bobby which account for probably 80% of console sales certainly won't notice it.

The trees and also the sky backgrounds are terrible to the degree of being out of place. Ugh. Full settings at 4K and the game is not a looker.

No. There's barely any noticeable difference from the PS4 version.

I had to look pretty hard, but on the last screen where they are on the starting line you can see the lower quality texture on the first flag on the right side on the PRO side, same for the advert on the wall on the right side... not very convincing if you are trying to sell an upgrade.

Actually there are a few things you can notice after watching a couple of times, like the higher geomatry of the hillside on the left at 1:17, and the cliff on the left at 1:23. But yeah nothing huge, but they should of used the 60fps mode on the Pro, not the 'quality' mode. Next gen's normal mode is matching, and slightly exceeding, the quality mode on the Pro, and at double the framerate.

There are dozens of us!

made an OT

For a second there I thought that was a screenshot.

That hill looks pretty silent bro

Well you guys need to go out more, too much artificial reality is no good. :lollipop_tears_of_joy: Speaking of fog, it can get extremely intense here exactly like Silent Hill because most of these are actually monsoon low clouds:

Fly it like 100-500m altitude from this spot and you get something like this, a sea of clouds:

Would love if Naughty Dog would consider a fantasy story here.:messenger_grinning_sweat:

If it's implemented, it's HRTF-based, it's a massive step over 7.1 surround. Dolby Atmos on PC has HRTF-based 3D audio version and 7.1 version, but uses 32 sources max vs hundreds of sources on The Tempest 3D as Mark Cerny stated. It should work with any good 2.0 stereo, no need for 7.1 channel.

It must be done on a GPU level like the Tempest that's GPU-based compute unit. Not too long and we'll experience it by ourselves.

For the audiophiles out there, it's worth knowing that Bluepoint and Sony have "remade thousands of thousands of new sound effects to add into" levels. Then using 3D audio on PS5 brought that to life. Moore said you'll be able to hear arrows fly past your head creatures crawl out of the slime in the Valley of Defilement.

Tempest Engine is outside of the GPU, but it's also based on AMD's CU tech with compute power comparable to the entire PS4/PS4 pro's CPU.

AMD's TrueAudio Next runs on Polaris/Vega GCN.

Yes. I think The tempest is synced with the main GPU clock speeds, and might do sound ray tracing internally or via the intersection engines inside the main GPU, nothing clear but this graph suggests that:

But convolution reverb is calculated within the tempest as Cerny said as one of the many other calculations that The Tempest would handle.

Wait is he saying I need to plug my wireless headphones into the headphone jack of the dualsense to get 3D audio?

If it's not a compatible wireless headset, you can use nearly any headset via DualSense controller, which already has RealTek audio chip onboard.

I don't think anyone that actually plays online multiplayer would want that lol. It would get turned off instantly by anyone that takes online play seriously.

Well, it's optional, but you can adjust it or turn it off. Competitive online gamers on PC usually have settings on low so they have the edge without fog or dust blocking them like on ultra. But they don't represent the whole gaming community.

I do notice sub-30 though.
And in movies when they pan the camera (which I suppose is also sub-30 though)

Man, this is something strange to me. But I personally would notice even 120fps or probably more. Not saying that I can't enjoy 30fps like some are treating it like some kind of blasphemy. If I have better graphics at 30fps, I always go for 30fps unless it's unstable 30fps or a shooter.

The TAN library may be used in conjunction with Radeon Rays as foundational accelerated algorithms for a complete physics-based audio solution

It also clarified that TrueAudio Next uses the GPU's ray-casting technology to do the audio computation, and can also reserve GCN compute units for lower latency

Thanks for the details!:messenger_ok:

Was getting that one until Sony showed Sony a7S III camera! I'll keep an eye for Xperia 5 II though ;) Both are beasts! Been a Sony phone user since 2005. :messenger_sunglasses:
I had one of these in silver in the 90's
