Do not upgrade to Windows 10 (yet) if you are using DualShock 4

Hey is it safe to upgrade yet? Was wondering if I would be able to get my DS4 working on my PC again and what I would need? I've been using those SCP server drivers. Hoping I can still play Undertale, but scared to update and not be able to use my ds4

Yeah, DS4Windows works with Windows 10. I have it and it's working just as good as the old drivers

I made a fancy gif. Just use the connect button before turning on or connecting your controller. You may have to do it twice if you end up with red text at the bottom of the program. Oh, and make sure Steam is closed.

The Windows update that fixes this will hopefully come out next month.

Finally upgraded. I like it.

I do have a problem though. When I open my task manager it says my cpu is @ 100% usage. It's lying and it's not. I've looked up some fixes but I'm leery of updating my bios, as I seen a post from someone with the same board as me and he jacked his up.

*Alright so I fixed it.

Was legit getting worried, but I updated the bios, and then when the computer restarted it said it couldn't start 'inaccessible boot device'. So I figured the boot device in the bios was incorrect. It wasn't. I dunno but after trying a few things, I unplugged my second hdd, changed sata mode from ide to ahci (I think that was a part) in the bios, and disabled my br drive from being a boot device and I got into safe mode (still was getting inaccessible boot device, got there from advanced options - was one of the two choices it gave me). Then restarted and all is good.

back to 0% usage. Also it was actually affecting the cpu even though it wasn't being used 100%. It was keeping it clocked at a higher rate than idle, like turbo speed or whatever they do now. So it was running warmer and using more power than right now, or when at idle.

this is great news :O
I was actually thinking of getting a XBO controller but yay!

Still biding my time before I upgrade...

On another note, I saw that Microsoft finally got with the times and implemented multiple taskbars between monitors. But how customizable are things compared to DisplayFusion, for example? That's what I'm using for windows 7 at the moment.

Steam Link is being reported to recognizing both ps3 and ps4 controllers. I saw on imgur yesterday that it even recognized the Wii U gamepad but the inputs didn't work.

I preordered one just to have a single solution for 4 controllers I own all with strengths and weaknesses. It'll be nice to have the the ps3/4 dpad for platformers and the xbone and 360 controller for games like dark souls or non competitive shooters.

How does that work? via USB I'm guessing? Does the Link even support stuff like Bluetooth?

Windows 10 should be updating today with Build 10586.3, should fix the underlying issue with using the DS4 exclusivity on Windows 10.
Windows 10 November Update Features Fixes and Enterprise Readiness

The article doesn't mention anything about connectivity.

How do you know it fixes issues with the DS4? Are you using the latest insider build? I need answers ;p

So far my DS4 works alright with the current Windows 10 but Exclusive mode doesn't seem to work properly.

The issue was fixed in Build 10532, so unless they regressed, it should be included.
That's good. Is there a specific KB link for the fix? I didn't see it mentioned in the article.
Haven't seen one yet unfortunately.

The new media upgrade will install the latest update if you select upgrade (the update is a new build of windows). Or just wait it out; eventually you'll get the download in WU.

Oh cool. I'll try that out since I want to play Fallout 4 with my DS4.

I have been playing binding of Isaac afterbirth with the DS4, at first I was looking for some sort of software to use either that or my Wii u pro controller, but on a whim I decided to just plug the DS4 in and, without any firmware or anything, it works 100% perfectly as a wired controller.

It doesn't even unsync it from the ps4 and it makes it not turn my ps4 on, so I can still use it back and forth between my PC and PS4.

Many games just natively support the DS4 regardless of Windows version. Ironically, these are the exact games that cause the specific issue this thread was started for.

I got the update, downloaded it, got a message saying that certain aspects of it weren't installed correctly, reset and the DS4 still won't go into Exclusive mode. And it won't let me download the update again. So basically, the usual Windows 10 jank.

Isn't it games that half-support it that are the problem? Weird mappings, dodgy sticks etc

Got the update and YES it is finally fixed, though you still need to run the app as administrator for it to detect in exclusive mode. I'm still using the original DS4 to Xinput Mapper 1.2.1 (most reliable imo) and now nothing special to do, just launch as admin and away I go. Finally!

Nope, all games that specifically account for it like Ubisoft's newer games and seemingly a lot of newer Unity games (not including ones that just detect generic input devices, in which case aren't an issue).

How does a game detect that a DirectInput controller is a DS4 specifically, is it just relying on the name when it enumerates when connected? Would be nice if there was a list somewhere of native DS4 supporting games - might have to start just setting up profiles to fire DS4Windows when it's needed (or do it manually).

Working fine with input mapper for me.

My understanding is that input lag is significantly worse with ds4 windows, so not sure why you wouldn't use input mapper.

I don't get where you're getting that from, it's not true at all. Both programs use the same drivers, so they should both have the same input latency (I've used both and noticed no difference). I use DS4windows because it has a nicer UI, it's much easier to use, and I don't have to deal with banner ads. It also has the touchpad (touch) shift modifier that I can't live without.

I went with ds4windows because I saw inputmapper has ads. Is the lag present when plugged in via USB?

I have tried both and found INputMappers Macro system much easier. Also it's $2 to get rid of the ads and for how good the program is, it's well worth it.

At this point I have so many games I have custom setups for, it would be a pain to switch. I also found InputMappers UI better too. Totally subjective of course.

InputMapper is also getting support for other controllers. Which will be very nice. I love the DS4 but I don't want all my custom mappings to be tied to it forever if a better controller does come out, like the Xbox Elite for instance. I think the paddles will make up for the loss of touchpad.

I am pretty sure InputMapper fully supports touchpad shift modifier too. Unless you mean something different to what I am thinking.

Yeah, I think you're right about the touchpad thing, it's just presented differently. Still, both programs are fine, it's just up to personal preference.

I'm on build 10240 and it says I'm up to date every time I look for an update.

I'm glad I can get the DS4 working after a few tries, but the process of killing explorer multiple times whenever I want to play a game has become incredibly annoying. Hopefully I can get this update soon.

Is the home button working for anyone else on the new Windows 10 update? Exclusive mode is fine now, but I can't bring up the steam overlay or launch big picture with the home button now.

The same thing is happening to me. There is something probably going on with the new version of Windows since you can actually partially control the start menu and some apps (mail, photos) with the controller now.

just to clarify DS4windows and DS4 now work fully under windows 10 after the new update?

They already always worked, the only issue was needing a quick work around for a specific function that applies to certain games. You still need a work around for it to work under certain conditions regardless of your version of Windows.

First time reading this, any citation outside of anecdotal evidence?

My choice was once "Never play Dark Souls again" or Windows 8. Of course I chose Dark Souls. Maybe it's time to upgrade.

Where are people getting this elusive update? It is neither on the official page nor in the update settings and certainly NOT in the media creation updater. I understand it was (still is?) an insider update that should be included in a public update sometime if ever?

For reference, the latest public update is KB3106932 published 11/13/2015 which did not fix the issue. Nothing else since and therefore DS4 does not open in exclusive mode with input mapper.

I think KB3106932 was the patch before the patch. The Media Creation Tool does have the new patch, that's how I got it.

Weird...I tried that 2h ago and instead of updating, it reverted me to an earlier version that had to download a lot of updates during install. Maybe Germany is on a different upgrade path from everyone else due to the legal restrictions that apply here? Will try again tomorrow.
