The lighting on the NA cover makes no sense and never has. I hope for the sake of consistency they release a limited edition tin case BD, but I fear they probably won't.

Just to clarify; when I said it felt more targetted towards kids; I didn't mean that it's more tame or less scary or less violent. It just feels like the stories are told a bit closer to a childs perspective and made easier for kids to relate to. I always felt that Moffats episodes in the old series had a bit of a fairy tale vibe to them for some reason (which I really liked), and that has in part carried over to the entire series now.

ah. you mean like 'statues move when you're not looking', 'you know that thing you sometimes see in the corner of your eye...'? then yes, there does seem to be a lot more of that - real life things you don't normally pay attention turned into spooky things.

The BBC are good at making stuff look cheap. Would be nice if who had a more subtle cover though. Do we need a custom cover thread for DVDs and blu rays now?

The BBC is to axe Doctor Who Confidential, the BBC3 spin-off from its sci-fi drama, as part of the corporation's ongoing cuts programme.

Doctor Who Confidential, which features behind-the-scenes footage from the making of Doctor Who as well as interviews with the cast and crew, has aired in an early evening slot on BBC3 since 2005, when the corporation revived the main series with Christopher Eccleston as the ninth Time Lord.

However, with the corporation facing budget cuts of up to 20% across its output as part of its "Delivering Quality First" initiative, BBC controller Zai Bennett has chosen to axe the show at the end of its current series.

Bennett is understood to be pursuing a strategy of focusing investment on original commissions in post-watershed time slots. Since taking over, he has decommissioned shows including Ideal, Hotter Than My Daughter, Coming of Age and long-running sitcom Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps.

Speaking last month at the MediaGuardian Edinburgh International Television Festival, Bennett said: "It's about focusing my budget on 9pm and 10.30pm; those are the time slots that count. Budgets are tight, so we have to be sensible with the money we have."

Mark Thompson, the BBC director general, will unveil the corporation's cost-cutting strategy – the outcome of the DQF process – on 6 October. It is thought to include proposals to exploit greater "synergies" between BBC1 and BBC3, with the digital channel acting as a "nursery slope" for its terrestrial cousin. BBC3 will also fill a greater proportion of its 7pm to 9pm slots with repeats of BBC1 shows.

A spokeswoman for the BBC said: "The Doctor Who spin-off series, Doctor Who Confidential, has been a great show for BBC3 over the years, but our priority now is to build on original British commissions, unique to the channel."

Confidential needed work, shortening, but not axing. It can't be that expensive, can it?

Nope. Its basically a dude walking around with a camera filming stuff. Its edited and put out. The interviews are free, the stuff they are filming is covered by the Who budget. .

strange decision really.

We'll see more monsters reused and less redesigns. The Daleks got a pretty expensive 're-launch' design and episode centered around them, only to not be featured heavily at all since then. Maybe we'll see more humanoid monsters and less CGI.

Doesn't this kind of defeat the point of BBC Three being more of a "youth" channel?

I hope they at least post clips online (Youtube, please) of those short behind the scenes videos of the cast being fools, which are hilarious and endearing. Like Craig, the Doctor, and the Dalek or whenever the main three get together to sing a song with Arthur on the piano.

The Blu Ray sets are already overpriced to begin with. I'm definitely going to stop buying them if Confidential is not going to be produced/included anymore. (Unless they drop the price of the sets by at least 25-30%)

Oh well, more money in my pocket =)

Mildly surprised they used Marshall Lancaster's ganger photo on the disc with the two-parter rather than Sarah Smart's or the Doctor's.

Similarly surprised that they used the Sontaran from A Good Man... (Assuming that's the Good Man Goes To War disc, at least), rather than everyone's favourite Victorian lesbian crimefighting Silurian.

So the Blu-ray and DVD for the complete sixth season is coming out on November 21 (UK) and 22 (North America). I was hoping they'd use this cover, but the covers we get are cool anyway. Sort of partial to the UK cover purely because it has the main cast on it, but the NA cover looks badass.

How rare. The North American one looks way better.

The licence fee freeze starting to take effect.

Can you explain what that means? I'm not familiar with the BBC licensing, being an American. I was hoping that somehow BBC America has helping to pay for the production costs too...

Money made by BBC Worldwide goes in to the whole BBC pot. While it means Doctor Who gets a bit more money it doesn't go DIRECTLY to Doctor Who - it's supporting the whole corporation (the co-production on episodes 1 and 2 I think may be different).

Yes, Space & Time on in the set, as is Christmas Carol as stated on the previous page. All 14 episodes will be in the set.

lerest.

Half way through series 4 now. This is easily my favorite show now.

The Doctor who dies better not be a Ganger or it better not be a Ganger of Riversong in Silence in the Library, and the original Doctor River Song died by rewriting history and taking the hit so protected 11 and killed by her past self (oh that’s Moffat enough). Actually no big Ganger twist in any context please. Everyone better not be a bloody Ganger!

SpeedingUptoStop

will totally Facebook friend you! *giggle* *LOL*
I think they ruled out gangers definitively from the start, but alternate reality Doctor or Parallel traveling Doctor/Amy/Rory's are still in the pocket IMO.

Gangers have the potential to seriously screw up this whole finale.

Don't think it'll be a ganger, but it will be some kind of substitution. I think TGWW is probably the best indication of the actual solution.

All those pictures with people with their hands sticking out makes me think of Geoff Peterson from Craig Ferguson. Still Hoping for Craig to become a villain on Doctor Who. Matt Smith wants it to happen.

Holy shit, the "alternate Rory and Amy" theory might be right.

Was just reading on Reddit and someone made a good point that the Doctor picked up a newspaper and the paper said "21st April 2011".

The day before the Doctor was at Lake Silencio and killed.

So either the Amy in the store was shopping for last minute clothes to take to America or it was a different Amy that saw the Doctor killed on the lakeshore.

Isn't one of the theories that the Amy and Rory that we/The Doctor see in the store have already experienced him dying in their own timeline?

I actually thought the Rory and Amy we saw in the store are the same ones he traveled with this season, the ones who witnessed the death at Lake Silencio and were the ones he left at the house with the car.

But then I thought Closing Time happened AFTER the death of the Doctor.

Now I'm being told the newspapers said it's the day BEFORE the death.

So I'm confused and I hope we get a lot of answers on Saturday.
