I think I best summed up the US movie with the sentence "WHY IS THIS MAKING NO SENSE AT ALL!?!". It had a fun chase sequence towards the end, and the Doctor and the Master both had a lot of potential, but that's more or less the entirety of the film's positive aspects. It's apparently better to get the Big Finish audio productions (edit: ah, right, already covered above in this thread) from that same Doctor as well as those from Colin Baker. Both of them apparently did a bang up job after their embarrassing on-screen presentations
I listened to a few of the 8th Doctor Audio stories during the downtime when the last series finished. I really enjoyed and did a fair bit to flesh out his character for me. I'd love it if they could get Cosgrove Hall to animate them like they did with the missing eps from the Invasion as it would be great to see more of the 8th doctor, it really feels like a lost era of Doctor Who with so much potential for them to run with if they wanted to.

While they are at it, have they said if there are anymore plans to go back an animate missing episodes like they did for the Invasion. Its just such a shame that soo many of the Hartnel and Troughton era stuff is missing and doing something like that would be a great way for us born post 1970's to at least see some of them.

Unlikely. The Invasion was part-funded by the BBC, it wouldn't have been economic otherwise.

The Silents remind me of the the slender man myth lurking on the internet.

Also: Doctor Who... so good.

silents will fall..

the silents scared my 9-yr-old silly. He managed the whole of the last season no problem, but those guys freaked him out - he was peeping through his fingers.

Thats sucks, I really think recreating old episodes like that is a great idea. That said I'm guessing it might not prove cost effective for them. It just really sucks that even though I'm a huge Dr Who fan there is a whole lot of the series that is locked off from me and I'll never be able to see it. I'm almost in awe of a friend of mine who I work with who watched the series when it started as hes seen stuff I'll never have a chance to see.

I gotta ask, are the creatures known as the "Silents" or the "Silence"? I see both.

And I agree that they're creepy as fuck. Just the thought of being petrified, turning to run and then forgetting your fear affects me.

We haven't actually heard them called anyting on the show yet.

I'm honestly not too sure.

Is River wearing her vortex manipulator? Doesn't that mean this has to be after Pandorica?

Spoilered because of speculation.

River would need some sort of time travel device to get back to 2011 either way.

Moffat tweeted that he asked them, but couldn't remember the answer.

Loved the new episode and can't wait for the next one!

One bit of speculation that I haven't heard anywhere else, is about the date 1969. In Blink, the Doctor and Martha end up getting zapped back to 1969 by the Angels. Seeing as how that's a Moffat episode too, I can't help but think they're connected. When the Doctor started talking about 1969 in the beginning of this episode, when he says, "A lot more happens in '69 than anyone remembers", I immediately thought of Blink.

Anyway, I can't help thinking there's more to it than this, or did I miss something? :)

I doubt the connections you are drawing are what they seem. The Doctor mentioned that 1969 was easy. A number of critical events also took place in 1969 as well. It could simply be seen as a very busy year.

I watched the Dalek ep. of the 9th Doctor's series last night and...THIS MAN IS MAD!!!!

BTW what's up with the 9th Doctor? One time he's cheerful and comical, the next he's serious.

It's because Eccleston is awesome, that's what's up
Oh I do like Eccelston's performance, he pulls it off really well, but it's just that this Doctor's personality/mood swings can be quite confusing

Matt seems to be doing the same thing from time to time now.

The reason 9 did that was due to the fact that he had just committed genocide and wiped out his whole race, hence why Donna needs to pull a newly regenerated 10 back from the brink when he tries to murder the Racnoss leader. (And the only reason 10 really continues to stay sane is his relationship with his companions, hence why he goes nuts again towards the end)

He cannot be happy all the time putting up with idiots like us... silly humans

I just realised it is the silence and silents, oh well. Still scary.

It's probably already been said, but perhaps... The Silence falling themselves is the bad thing the Doctor needs to stop.

They influenced too much of human history, they need to be kept alive or time will implode, maybe?

Napoleonthechimp said:
That only applies if you're changing the past. You can remove them from the present without any trouble.

Yeah, I was trying (badly) to imply the fall of the Silence would remove them from existence.

I've been wondering why the Silence wanted to blow up the Universe last year. One possibility is
that actually what they were after was the Doctor rebooting the Universe, during which they inserted themselves into history.

Seen lots of crazy River Song spoilers over the last couple of days. Moffat tweets: "Lot of utter nonsense Who spoilers around at the moment. Please ignore." lol

This is exactly what I was thinking.

I do hope so. Some of those spoilers are mental.

So I watched that "Death of the Doctor" episode of the Sarah Jane Adventures. That show is actually quite good, if a little kid-glovy. Also, :< Liz

So apparently, according to the Wiki, River is living Memento? Every time we see her, it's actually the "her" before the last time? So when she's talking about the last time she ever sees the Doctor and how it will kill her, she's talking about her first appearance on the show, not the last time we see her character?
