I still have to wonder (and thought about it the other day) HOW could these have been so awful? I mean, who okayed these? Waters of Mars was fine. But the others? I mean... REALLY? I think the worst was the Titanic special, by far.

Those shops of the Doctor at the wedding are awesome!

My wife and I started watching the series on netflix. We're almost finished with the second season. Just finished the episode with the Beast of the Pit.

I really like David Tennant, but I feel like Christopher Eccleston was a better actor. David Tennant is good and he's charming, but the way Eccleston could switch moods on a dime was great. Although it seems like they just didn't write that sort of dialogue for Tennant.

Glad you are into it. Agree with your statement.

Tennant was better with the comedy because he oozes charm, but eccelston had the gravitas for the drama.

I'm grateful for RTD bringing Who back to our screens, but in my opinion, for every one of the triumphs during his tenure, there was an equal and opposing piece of shit episode/two parter.

Eccleston was a better Doctor than Tennant for me. When his Doctor felt pained, it came across as more convincing than the 10th Doctor's anguish. I think Rose was a better fit for 9 than she was for 10. Martha came and went with 10. Donna was also hit and miss. Maybe writing a companion for 10 was tough. At least with Amy and 11 a consideration was made for their interactions during the creation phase of Neo-Nu-Who.

You know who I'd love to see make a comeback at some point? Wilfred. What a total legend.

Donna & Rory are my favourites of the new companions. I find Amy a bit flat to be honest.

Saw a slightly different trailer for Saturday's episode.
The Silence get to say 'DOC-TORRR', which is always nice.

I already mentioned this in the Star Trek thread, but I'm sure plenty of people here never look in there.

It is not unusual for a book to start with quotes. But I was very jazzed to see the new Star Trek: Department of Temporal Investigations: Watching the Clock started with an Einstein quote, plus this:
People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually, from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint, it's more like a big ball of wibbly-wobbly... timey-wimey... stuff.

So I watched all the episodes on Netflix and just watched the first special, Planet of the Dead.

Are all the specials God awful or should I watch them before jumping into the next season...and the new doctor?
Water of Mars is FUCKING great! It's good just as regular Sci-Fi, not even counting the Doctor.

Funny, that is kind of how my wife and I feel also.

To anyone:
What's the spoiler rule for new episodes (tagging required and such)?

None. As long as it aired in the UK, no tags are needed.

Excellent.

So Episode 1 (granted I was in a ton of pain from backpain and watching the ep glancingly while lying on my back),...what the hell was with the Nixon choice and was it just me or did one Secret Service agent do a shit American accent?

I understand back in the day it's a problem, but is it really hard to find American actors in England? I think I need to watch it again as I was really not able to watch it in an optimal manner.

Waters of Mars is absolutely amazing. It's one of the best Doctor Who stories of all time.
It really was, in a sense it was full of cliches and ideas from a ton of Sci-Fi stories (The Thing, Ghost of Mars, IT: Terror From Beyond Space, Alien, etc), but it still felt fresh and just done really well that it didn't matter.

Waters of Mars is so awesome, probably one of the best specials that I've seen from DW. End of Time is partially acceptable.

Right. Not solely Doctor Who related, but I just have to say...British TV is so goddamn refreshing. It's so nice to see actual approximations of real relationships and subtlety depicted on television for a change. Just watched the whole of the first series of Extras today. Amazing, amazing stuff. Not a single homicide, rape scene, explosion or gun fight throughout...

I think I may be a, like, British weeaboo or something.

So I have no clue what is happening, but I saw an Ad for The Today Show this morning, and they're doing something next week that at one point has one of the hosts hiding from a Cyberman...

Found the answer.

American broadcaster NBC has announced that its morning news show Today will meet Doctor Who on 6th May! Forming part of an initiative to broadcast from places all around the world, the show's presenter Meredith Vieira will visit the set of the show in the United Kingdom, and will also feature in a cameo in an upcoming episode. It has yet to be revealed whether she will be appearing in her role as Today presenter or in some other capacity.

Vieira's appearance follows a tradition of cameos in the series, which include Barbara Windsor in Army of Ghosts, Sharon Osbourne, Anne Widdecombe and band McFly in The Sound of Drums, Richard Dawkins and Paul O'Grady in The Stolen Earth, and Patrick Moore in The Eleventh Hour, plus the vocal talents of Anne Robinson, Trinny Woodall and Susannah Constantine portraying their robotic counterparts in Bad Wolf.

The first four series of Doctor Who regularly featured American news reports by Trinity Wells (played by Lachele Carl) from fictional network AMNN.

Doctor Who and BBC One trailers have been pretty bitching with the Bring Me Sunshine one yesterday (a few minor Who/Torchwood clips) and that Drama one posted earlier...

But then they did this

Why do the BBC have to ruin trailers with Doctor Who by linking it to two shoddy shows that they try and give better ratings by associating with Who but failed miserably?

On the plus side it looks like the Silence shoots don't scare the hare in a fight with River and the Doctor. DIE, HARE. DIE.

That clip is awesome.
They debuted it after the Royal Wedding, and a quick glance at the ratings for the point they would have showed it... somewhere between 11 and 14 million people saw that. Which is quite special.

Are they repeating old programs like One Foot in the Grave? The majority of that trailer are shows that were on years ago.

No. More of promoting BBC One as the one to watch, to pull out an old promotional campaign. Remind viewers of all the things they've watched on the channel, right after they all flocked to the Beeb for a big event.

Of course, with the money issues the BBC is facing these days, maybe it's a sign to get ready for a bunch of repeats.

I'm rewatching last week's ep. You know if Amy & Rory really wanted to see the Doctor again (after he died) they could just wait till next year when 10 shows up for the Olympics.

Dunno, it seems a split of AREN'T WE GREAT and a few new things in there.

And yes, 6pm. Don't turn on BBC One before 5.58pm. It could prove fatal.

How come, because of the advert? There was a bigish spoiler in the one straight after the Royal Wedding (
the kiss
).

If you tune in before 5:58 you might witness Don't Scare The Hare. I'm only saying :58 cos I know the Beeb love trailers. Maybe tune in at 5:59 to be safe.

Oh, is that the quiz show with Jason Bradbury? Probably one the most hilarious shows I've ever seen when I saw it last week.

Yeah. I watched it on iPlayer for the sake of scientific experiment and was shocked at just how bad it was. I love how in the "wake up the hare" game no-one thought "MASSIVE HARE ROBOT CAN'T GET UP" beforehand, and so they edited in the same 'panic' sequence about 6 times.

5:25pm for that if you hate yourself.
