Not a big fan of episode 4. Wasn't all that.

Ep 1 - good.
Ep 2 - okay
Ep 3 - God damned awful kill it with fire.
Ep 4 - Meh.
Ep 5 - Liked it

There are some good pieces of characterisation in all of the episodes - he's definitely a different Doctor. I just think the stories are a bit naff.
I agree with him. Ep 5 is where it really picks up.

Just to go more in details without being too spoilerish

For me, 4 (Listen) was top notch because it managed to make something huge with characterisation with almost all the ones on board, and to be very very scary without having any monsters at all. I don't understand people who call it "meh", it's Moffat's best episode since Blink, even better in some aspects

The problem I have with it that he just has to tinker with childhood. Danny's was fine to an extent but that ending with her influencing the Doctor from when he was a child was beyond silly. That whole ending VO with all of the slow motion nothing acting was truly bad.

Given the premise of the episode I expected much more. There was some good characterisation, yes. The story however was tripe.

Outside of the first episode, episode 5 has kept my attention throughout. I got bored in places during the others. I could really have done with not ever having seen episode 3.

So this is airing as a simulcast at like 4am or something here. Debating on whether to stay up or just wait a little for our regular airing.

I don't see how it was silly. In fact I found it quite touching, kinda rounded the whole episode nicely together, plus it added some characterisation to the doctor that didn't seem out of place.

Also calling it tripe ? Geez, just curious what Dr. Who story you consider good then mate.

This being the first season of Doctor Who I'll watch as it airs, I'm really worried about my appreciation for it going down because of that. Watching episode after episode on Netflix meant I could just skip to the next episode regardless of whether the previous one was good or bad, and even if they were bad, I always found something to like and didn't dwell too much on its flaws. I wasn't subject to one week's worth of Internet discussion for every episode.

Doctor Who episodes usually have very mixed reception, so I expect to see reactions all across the spectrum about every episode, and I worry about the impact of that mixed reception to my own impressions of the show. It already happens to me with other shows and video games and movies and media in general, but I guess I'll have to be a little more careful about the way I consume reviews and reactions of each episode here as well.

Just a thought. I think I'm already pretty used to the "GAF/reddit thinks everything you like sucks" phenomenom, so I'll probably do just fine.

What do you guys think is the worst episode of new Who?

I nominate:
Night Terrors
Let's kill Hitler
Fear Her

Let's Kill Hitler is worth it for the DOCTOR WHO RETURNS WITH caption. Quite like the episode.

Fear Her is dross, I don't like Love and Monsters but that's quite polarising and some enjoy it (despite pavement blowjobs). And cue...

Let's kill Hitler made me really dislike the character of River Song. Annoying and Mofatt even felt it was necesarry to introduce the childhood friend of Amy and Rory, who we have never seen before. Not even at the wedding. And she turned out to be River. Uurghhhhh.

Any way to watch online? I'm guessing BBC won't do a live stream? :(

The BBC have live streamed all their programming on iPlayer for about 4 years now. The same with iTV, Channel 4, others. Unless you are in the US. I guess you could use that mediahint extension, although I'm not sure if this is legal.

It's the Daleks in Manhattan two-parter.

It's not even a question.

I don't understand why people don't understand this.

Certainly a contender.

but Voyage of the Damned wins for me.

I hate Closing Time and Let's Kill Hitler as well-- the first isn't really bad but just grates, and the second one more for the bafflingly inept writing and retconning and shoehorning and whatever else you want to call it.

1 hour to go!

Also, that weird Olympics episode with people getting trapped in TVs.

I think Let's Kill Hitler is pretty good...

While not the actual worst, I think The Wedding of River Song is really bad and just totally ill-conceived from top to bottom. It's one giant misstep and not even one you can dismiss easily like a Fear Her because it's so integral to the plot.

I'd also pick The End of Time part 1, partly because it's so awful (that Books of Saxon prologue, ugh) but mostly because it made me really really worried for a week that RTD was going to fuck up Tennant's exit. Luckily he rebounded really strongly with part 2.

Waiting in a cinema in Hamburg for this. All I see are neckbeards, fedoras and terrible cozplayers. Lawdy we feel out of place.

Wife and I watched Name, Day, and Time of the Doctor last night to prepare for today. Man, I love all three of those episodes, especially Day of the Doctor.

Gf is away tonight so probably going to have to watch it together tomorrow morning, thems the rules.

Really really considering watching it tonight and feigning emotion tomorrow while watching instead though! :P

What is this trampoline show that is being shown on BBC 1?

BBC Saturday night is a shitshow, which is held in place by Doctor Who. I have no idea if the BBC lacks the funding, or if ITV are bringing them down with their reality crap, but it seems mandatory for the BBC to limit themselves to one good drama on a Saturday night and fill the rest of the schedule with unwatchable pap.

I wish Robin hood was still on . How I miss that. Never watched anything past Merlin series 1.

Same situation. My girlfriend gets home when the episode is at it's halfway point, and this is supposed to be the series that we're going to watch together. I might watch the first half of it now, and the rest later tonight...

This show destroys relationships.

And yeah, the shows that are on before Doctor Who always baffle me. The BBC has created some of my favorite shows of all time, but most of it is just this weird crap. It's still better than what we have though, shows like the one that's on now is all we have on Dutch television.
