I liked Rose as a companion but can all agree that Donna is God Tier

Series 1 Rose with the Ninth Doctor was great.

In Series 2, she became insufferable. I really disliked the 10/Rose relationship. I'm glad they got rid of her when they did, because I don't think I could have stood another season with her.

Just starting to watch the Classic Series on Netflix... wish me luck WhoGAF.

EDIT: Damn, Susan is hot in a very 1960s sort of way.

Welcome to the club, friend.

Hey peeps a couple of weeks ago I finished watching all the nu-who episodes, and I want to know if the Doctor's clone/Daughter Jenny would ever be shown again?

I think she [Rose] was a good character.

I don't like River.

I'm sorry. I'm so, so sorry.

Other than she is a clone of the Doctor, and there aren't exactly a lot of those running around, even at the end of the universe.

Being a clone of the Doctor doesn't mean much if the character isn't interesting on any other level. Jenny's a meh character from a meh episode.

Her exit in Doomsday is great, and they pulled off some real emotion with it. And then they ruin it with her utterly pointless return in S4.

Yeah, her original exit was a very powerful moment. I didn't really care for Rose coming back much, and then the whole bit with her and the clone Doctor was...weird.

She did work great in Turn Left, though. I would have been happy if they had just had Rose in that, but then not had her return in The Stolen Earth.

Oh, I guess we "agree" on one aspect lol.

I thought she was fine. Not the best companion, but she's fine.

I think she was a good character.

I will readily admit that most of my dislike of Rose stems from the completely rabid fan base she has (to this day) in fandom. I thought she was alright, neither really liked her or disliked her, until I was constantly showered with the 'Saint Rose' fandom trope. It's bad enough that when I made a River fanvid, I actually got a comment saying it should have been a Rose fanvid because Rose is the Doctor's One True Love. Or something. It's a bit annoying, and thus made me focus on the more annoying character traits she had, and eventually grew into a dislike of the character.

It is sad when fandom of a certain character/shoe/creator colors your perception of something. I suffer the same thing with Joss Whedon for the most part.

There are certain fans that won't be satisfied until David Tennant and Billie Piper return to the show. And they think its a real possibility.

Sometimes, I think it goes further than that.

I'd say a small fraction of them probably want the actual actors to get together for real.

That makes me sad, because we agree on a ton of stuff, aside from my love for Joss Whedon :(
I like Whedon as an idea man, but his biggest flaw is that nearly all his characters have the same "voice." it is grating. I do like some of his stuff, and LOVE what he did with Avengers. But the entire "Whedon is my lord and master" thing and how nothing is ever his fault just rubs me completely wrong. Basically the over zealous and super rabid fans have made me hate him and sour my perception of nearly everything he touches.

The fact that Firefly and Serenity have actually been voted the greatest pieces of science fiction of all time in tv and film in many polls shows that the fans are over zealous. Being in a top 20 poll or whatever? Fine. But number 1? Over things like Twilight Zone or Star Trek?

There were people that were convinced that River was going to turn out to be Rose. Who was a time lord now because of the Tardis possession. Or something. And were LIVID when it turned it out that was not the case.

I get falling in love with a character, with a ship, I really do. But Doctor Who is a show that constantly changes both character AND ship. I love the hell out of River, but unlike some, I didn't freak out when Eleven kissed Clara. Cause that would be dumb. I also thought Matt Smith was ugly as sin and hated the fact that he was going to the be Doctor now and I had lost my lovely David and the amazing Donna. Now Eleven is my favorite. Annnd he's totally hot.

I can completely understand that. I loved Firefly, and wish like hell it would have had a chance to try to actually become the greatest Sci-Fi show ever, but it didn't. And since many of the fans felt cheated out of that, they got defensive as all hell. I like to say that I was a Joss Whedon fan before it was cool (heh). I love some of what he did, enjoy his works, but the man is NOT infallible (choosing Dushku as the lead for Dollhouse, I will never forgive, not when he had the likes of Enver in that stable).

I worry for your sanity if Cumberbatch were to ever appear on Who. I think the joygasm would be visible from space.

He would be amazing as either the Master or the Doctor. It would be a true shame if the writing wasn't up to the standard he is worth, however.

He looks weird, and people want him to play the Doctor? :-/

He looks roughly as weird as Matt Smith, what's the problem?

Maybe we should just have another pretty boy like Tennant?

Nothing against Tennant however.

Seriously though, most of the Doctors have looked weird. Ecelson was weird too.

I mean look at these people, few of them don't look at least slightly abnormal.

Can someone answer this for me?

I really don't think 1, 2 or 9 were "gimmicky" and 10 is only so because of the joggers. 11 is really only contextually gimmicky too, given the relatively young actor and the attention drawn to the bow-tie. 3 is a bit overdressed but he's a pimp so it's okay and 4 is mostly just the scarf (though he gets a bit more messy later on). Haven't seen the TV movie in a while but don't remember 8 dressing too oddly apart from maybe being a bit frilly.

It's really only the JNT/80s Doctors that wore overtly gimmicky costumes.
