Doctor Who Series Seven |OT| The Question You've Been Running From All Your Life

No tweed for the Christmas Special. :(

Just hope they get that balance right! And to be honest, I'm being unfair. The last time Daleks invaded Earth, they invaded... a suburb in outer London. Oh and a forest in Germany.

And, like, saucers fucking up New York and stuff.

If there's anything we can't fault that two-parter for, it's ambition.

Hey, you know what would really go great with all these reveals? A trailer. A trailer would really hit the spot.

One more word and there will be NO MORE TRAILERS FOR THE INTERNET!
Got it? :(

Sorry, we're fresh out of that. How would you like a steaming hot dish of the BBC's entire yearly budget poured into CGI footage of the Daleks fucking up London.. again?

Okay... :( I guess I'll take that EXTERMINATE being repeated 60-70 times over a good conversation, thanks BBC! :D

His wig doesn't look like a "wig", but it doesn't look like his former hair either IMO.

And on the rings of akhaten - am I the only one that finds the long song sequence melodramatic to the point of being embarrassing? It was one of the most saliently awful parts of season 7 for me and evoked the Russell T Davies era in all the wrong ways.
Funny, for me it evoked the Matt Smith Doctor in all of the wrong ways, i.e overly dramatic and explicitly self-appreciative while trying to convey a dramatic intensity that he wasn't capable of depicting.

So by "movie length" they meant "animated Disney movie length"? Crazy that End of Time got almost double that, and this is intended to be the biggest Who celebration since the reboot. Ah well. 75 minutes of Tennant, Smith and Hurt awesome isn't bad. I'm not expecting the actual plot to be that solid by the way, I do think they're going to focus on the characters instead. The Time War isn't even Moffat's bag. Ideal situation is that the Christmas special follows on directly from it.

The End of Time was split into two parts, and The Day of the Doctor is clearly meant to be paired with The Name of the Doctor so it's not that far off. Especially if the Christmas episode does make it a three parter.

Calling it something simplistic like "Death of the Doctor" would make a nice Name/Day/Death trilogy.

Thank you! Count me in as a Beast Below fan as well. It's definitely a solid "introduce the companion to the universe story".

It's by no means perfect - the ending is rushed and there are a couple of superfluous/underdeveloped elements - but it has some neat ideas (one of the rare episodes of doctor who to have political subtext "forgetting every five years"! Sophie Okenedo is excellent in it and the mystery is elaborate enough to be mildly compelling) and there's a lot more right with it than there is wrong. There's certainly nothing in it as egregious as the veritable car-crash that happens in Ahkaten's narrative as soon as the doctor and clara get on the bike. God what a clusterfuck.

Chill out, guys. Didn't you hear the news about him already commuting to doing the 100th?

I'm super late, but I love everything about the 50th Anniversary poster. Fucking everything. I love the title, I love the runtime, did I mention that I loved the poster?

Moffat confirmed to the Guardian that Series 8 won't air until Autumn 2014. The Guardian specifically ask (they're talking to him as part of the Media Guardian Top 100 People, which he is on) and Moffat says Late Summer or Autumn is "probably right" as filming won't be beginning until January next year at the earliest. Well, bugger.

Moffat came in at 87.
To do the dumb competition, RTD debuted at 15, peaked at 14, dropped to 27 and then dropped off the chart completely after leaving Who. It is worth noting RTD was on the list prior to Who, though, as the man is basically the king of gay/lesbian TV in the UK, and that carries a lot of clout.

Steven Moffat is the man entrusted with one of television's most revered and longest-running shows – Doctor Who.

Having won plaudits with his choice of The Thick Of It star Peter Capaldi as the new Doctor, now all he has to do is oversee a triumphant 50th anniversary of the BBC1 show, in November this year.

Part of a programme-making dynasty – he is married to Sue Vertue, who is the daughter of Hartswood Films founder Beryl Vertue – Moffat is one of the BBC's most important programme-makers.

He is in charge of Doctor Who and creator, along with Mark Gatiss, of Sherlock, the hit modern take on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's sleuth, which will return for a third series later this year.

Doctor Who may not be quite the force it was when it returned with Christopher Eccleston and in its David Tennant heyday in the UK, but has a growing audience in the US on cable channel BBC America.

It will not return next year until the autumn, giving it plenty of time to recharge batteries. And what better way to do that than with a new Doctor?

I would have liked to have the 8th or 9th Doctor in the special. The lack of BOTH of them will be a huge disappointement, if confirmed.

I think both of them have said as much in interviews, plus there's been no reports, and they're not on that poster. I don't think they'll be appearing :(

It's especially awkward since Hurt's Doctor is wearing 9's jacket over 8's vest, which tells a story in and of itself. It implies that he regenerated in the middle of the chaos of the war and just threw a jacket on top since there was no time for a proper wardrobe change. To not show that, or show his regeneration into Eccelston, would definitely leave me feeling like something huge and obvious is missing.

I'd say the show is more popular than ever...definitely more popular than it was when Eccleston and Tennant were on.

It's not 9's jacket and 8's vest, yes it is inspired by them.

Hurt's jacket is much longer than 9's and while 8's vest is sortof gold, Hurt's is red.
