wonder how fervent "drain the swamp" trump supporters feel now that they see their candidate is a sheep in wolf's clothing.

I can see his supporters viewing any pick that isn't a beltway politician as a plus. They can still claim "he is an outsider" because he was AG of Oklahoma.

Over 65 million people didn't want what Trump was selling. How he got 62 million on his ship is really baffling.
Not really

At least he's a republican
Blamed obama for everything
Obamacare death panels
Obama going to enact martial law
Gas has gone up since obama was inaugurated in 08
99% of poor people have a refrigerator
King obama
Why isn't obama acting more like a king?

I feel sorry for my nephew and nieces and their children(if they have them), they will feel this. My nephew is only 5, my niece is 10.

I probably won't since I'm almost 40, unless this comes faster than we think, but still, some of my loved ones will.

I'll probably be to old to care, but yeah, it still sucks. Don't get me wrong. We have to do something now or its going to be irreversible damage.

Isn't it irreversible by now? I understand the only thing we can do is slow it down and hope we can get space travel right for fuck another planet because you know, even if we manage to leave Earth badly damage and find another earth like planet, humans will still find ways for deliberately screw it up.

Yeah I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that were past the point of no return. Fuck it lets see how crazy shit can get. Who cares about trying to fix something that's doomed.

What is Ivanka saying now?

Is she ever going to cross her father and go against him? She said this is important to her. Really?

This choice goes against that.

I'm convinced they live in a separate reality yet somehow are physically manifesting themselves in this one. Such stupidity cannot be explained.

As always, this stuff is never easy. Vox did an interview with the former obama climate advisor about this topic.

TLDR:

Brad Plumer
It does sound like the main point here is that the federal government is this vast bureaucracy that can’t just be turned around overnight.

Jody Freeman
Yes, that’s exactly it.

Do remember Bush had a hard time pushing back EPA as well. Our government for better and worse moves very slowly.

Gonna be some rough court battles in the upcoming years though.

It's Trump's way of making sure he can get in on the next ultra expensive, exclusive, tropical paradise for his next resorts. The Arctic Circle. The Mediterranean 2.0.

All of Trump's picks seem to be designed to punish people with "liberal" (i.e. not flaming red conservative) sensibilities.

And after this last election, I don't even care anymore. We could have stopped this, but too many people couldn't be bothered to cast a vote. I hope more people feel like they're being punished. I hope more people get pissed off. And I hope more people turn out during the midterms to put some checks on this lunacy. But if we don't, then fuck it. We get the government we deserve, and we deserve to burn with it.

Pretty much all my charitable donations during the Trump years will be going to the NRDC and other environmental groups.

If we don't have a planet what difference do a lot of other groups make?

If it's another conservative midterm sweep, I'll agree.

I'm like, OK, we deserve this. No point in fighting anymore.

And the good news just keeps on coming....

Look, I know it's irrational and I know it serves no purpose, but to be totally honest, I'm having a really tough time holding back my sheer hatred for the people that voted for this man to be my country's president. It's not a feeling I'm proud of, but I'm struggling with it every day.

How are others here handling the emotional side of this? Intellectualizing it doesnt work for me. There is literally nothing good or productive that I can conjure up to help myself feel better. I'm just stuck with this awful feeling of dread and a deplorable feeling of animosity toward the people that voted for this thug to become president.

I'm completely enraged at non voters and 3rd party voters. They could have stopped this nightmare.

Not all Americans. like 65 million people didn't. I agree we are a divided country. How we survive the future I have no idea.

I hate to say this, because I mean...I really fucking hate this.

But the market needs to shift towards clean energy. It needs to be made more affordable, and mandated at a state to state level. Infrastructure projects involving solar and wind and whatever the fuck else we can get need to be put forward as sustainable and made competitive enough to financially go toe to toe against fossil fuels.

Cars.

Roofs.

Farms.

Roads.

Turbines.

I admit to not knowing a goddamn thing about the expenses in creating, or the profit required to keep the business sustainable, renewable energy harvest/storage sources, but if it boils down to money, people will pay attention.

Yeah good point.

I mean in practical terms, a whole fuckload of people are going to die unnecessarily over the next few years due to the Trump administrations stance on:

1) Stripping away healthcare benefits
2) Continued gun violence
3) Lack of support for the severely poor and homeless
4) War
5) Slashing environmental public health policy
6) Wrongful executions
7) a runaway totalitarian police force
8) deportations back to unsafe third world countries

I'm sure I could add many more things to the list but I'm too depressed to think about the awfulness of it all. I'm just so ashamed of what my country is going to allow to happen.

Yep I'm going scorched earth on them. I know someone who loves science and believes in climate change, GMOs not being evil etc. Yet he voted Gary Johnson and considers himself socially liberal and fiscally conservative. He advocated to not vote at all and essentially said both sides. Hope this shit lives on their nonexistent "conscience" and their protest vote or non vote that did absolutely nothing.

My anger is turned specifically to whoever the campaign advisors were to tell Clinton to absolutely ignore the swing states.

Just fucking go there. Seeing people is better than ignoring. Ugh...
