oh wow great revi-

wait, let's see modern Bioware rpgs reviews on metacritic,

DA 2: 80+ - game is utter garbage.
DA:O 90+ - probably the best rpg from modern bioware but that doesn't really mean much, the game is far from being great.

ME around 90 - lol.
ME 2 95+ - LOL.
ME 3 around 90 - lol.

so uhm, about trusting these high scores

I don't see what the problem is other than DA2 which doesn't even deserve 6's, and Origins which deserves 9's.

The rest are pretty accurate if you ask me.

there are actual good wrpgs out there which aren't those games that bioware made in the last 8 years or so.

oh sorry, huge difference.
most people actually have bad tastes, if that's the case.

this guy .. smh ..

Wow, quite positive reception. Metacritic is around 88 in PC and PS4. XBOX a bit less.

Anyway, seems the main critics are:
*Initial pacing issues. And there seems to be several boring/irrelevant Fedex quests all along.
*Bugs, collision issues and janky animations. - Fully expected those. Heads were tilting oddly even during the intro stream. And let's not talk about the way characters and mounts run. Also, Dawg talked about a cursor issue on the choices wheel menu.
*CPU limited. Seems a decent one is needed to get 60 fps.
*Tactical camera has problem on enclosed spaces.
*Too many and too similar rifts.
*Bosses fights in "unimaginative" ways. But at least Dragon battles are meatier.
*Enemies gets close too fast, so fights become a bit chaotic fast. Similar than in DA2, but at least there are now skills to instantly move around.
*Too much pyrotechnic effects in combat. - We all called that one.
*Normal difficulty is too easy - pretty obvious from streams. Nightmare all the way.
*Timers on some quests. MMh..might not be bad, depending on how was implemented.
*Some dialogues are still full of cheese, Bioware style.
*Best choice options are always obvious. -Not good at all.
*Only "bad" people truly antagonize you. No shades of gray. -Quite disappointing if true.
*No major city areas like Skyhold. -This surprised me, as I expected Val Royeaux, at least, would be quite detailed. On the other hand, the marketing would have focused on it if that had been the case. So I guess the signs where there all along.

The jury is still out there regarding the Ending, and if decisions have lasting consequences.
Disappointed no one talked about Friendly fire. Would like to know if it improves the combat or instead become annoying later one.

The good thing is that the rest seems to be quite stellar. I'm still hoping the characters and events are not as black-or-white as suggested. Because that would be a major turn off for me.

RPGFan also mentioned long loading times and a cumbersome menu/item management.

Is it "most people" that have bad taste, or is it you?
I think that the statement of "most people agree with those scores" isn't very much true. neogaf bioware defence force however agrees with those, who would have known.

I'm all for you expressing your opinion, but you could be less confrontational about it. You're not gonna get level-headed responses until you understand that people have different opinions and that's okay. Instead you're just inciting people to be upset.
I just meant that those scores shouldn't be trusted, I didn't want to upset all the fans here. (maybe)

Opinions and all, but 'ME3 was great except for the ending' really grinds my gears.

Back to DA:I, customization and combat seem like they are lifted from a Korean MMO.
I will wait for some more extended PC footage, but I will likely not buy this.

BioWare games almost always review well critically.

The question will be how the game fares once the general public gets their hands on it.

Good point. I'm expecting it to be the best of the bunch since it's doing much more than the previous games did, but DA:I being the best isn't really saying much. The DA series has been pretty mediocre and I don't anticipate this game being all that memorable.

The funny thing is I actually liked DA:2 with the exception of its repetitive nature and mostly insignificant side quests, however I think they added good lore to it which is what made it generally good for me. People will say what they will but I think a lot of people keep coming back to BioWare's games because of their "formula". Room for improvement? I'm absolutely sure there is, but their games are usually a really fun ride! I'm glad to see such positive reception - hindsight is always 20/20 especially after things like DA:2 and ME3 issues but knowing that those games were rushed vs. DA:I taking years makes me all the more confident that these high scores are justified in a game I probably would have enjoyed regardless.

EDIT: Also those mounts omg!!

Yep, just digging yourself a grave. Defense army? Boy, if that isn't a sign someone is trying to convince themself of something, I don't know what is. How very... pitiable.

Plenty of good points, but this one I feel is a result of rushing to meet embargo. Upon replaying I'm sure you see that the "obvious" choice isn't so straightforward in this series. Just the other day I was replaying the Mage origin in DA:O and went a different route and learned the "good guy" is actually a total ass.

I also pick on this point because I love the decisions and characters.

A much better post, with a much better tone, would be:

"I don't like the direction that BioWare has taken recently. Critics seem to like their games, but I can't get excited. I'm glad people are enjoying them, but man, it's a bummer that this game seems to be like their recent efforts."

Or if you never liked BioWare, that route. Instead you go and call people a defense force, attacking their opinions like they're wrong, and generally making a scene. Just food for thought.

Here's two of my mounts for people who are interested btw:

Oh wow! 0_0

Is that single player or multiplayer.

...wait, speaking of which HOW IS the multiplayer? I have so far heard literally nothing about it other than it is there.

I can't see Bioware releasing a genuinely great game at this point at all. They've been nowhere near Obsidian and CD Project RED quality in the past years despite their games getting inflated review scores over and over again. It just escapes me how they are supposed to have improved by this much (especially since both Doctors jumped off). I don't trust the scores at all.

I know about the Dragon Age WIKI page but I find it kind of hard to navigate in a way that isn't just jumping all over the different time periods, etc.

Is there a youtube video series that goes through the first 2 games stories or something that is easier to read and navigate than the wiki pages? I want something pretty in depth too, not just a long summary.

hmm I would say go to the Dragon Age Keep and watch the introductory video: https://dragonagekeep.com/

Let me guess.

RPGCodex?

they shouldn't when similar games got unjustified high scores and great reviews, yes. that was my point. but please, stay mad.

You're still doing this? What a shit point. All you're doing is pretending your opinion is more objective and true than everyone else's.

That list has problems I didn't expect this game to have, even though I was skeptical already.
Weird that no review seems to mention the lack of attribute points to distribute.

Currently the game is sitting at 89 with 19 reviews on the PS4 version (most reviewed SKU).

The only games above that on the system are:
95: TLOU Remastered
91: flower (digital)
90: Diablo 3 Ultimate Evil, Rayman Legends, Fez (digital)

Aww man. Not on my radar until these crazy reviews. Looks like PS4 is the version to get on consoles? Bit higher res. Will have to pick up next week I guess. Any othet differences between XB and PS4?

The game's in good company.

(im very surprised there's this few 90+ games in the new gen so far).

hey I actually edited.

wrong, that would be a different post. with a much more relaxed tone, sure, but where's the fun in that.

Using your 'defence force' logic then surely the majority of people who played DA2 would rate it highly?
