Regarding the classes, I keep seeing folks mention "hero" class; is this a class I can select or is it the final level of the warrior class?

What entails an advance class and generally how long does it take to master an advance class?

Thank you Aeana btw
An advanced class is one that unlocks after you master a combination of basic classes. For instance, gladiator unlocks once you master warrior and martial artist.

If I recall correctly, there are NPCs at Alltrades Abbey that detail this kind of thing.

Oops, I think I made a mistake giving Ruff a certain monster vocation. Now he has Multiheal but not enough MP because I want to give him physical classes. The good thing is that everyone has Midheal for backup.

Another thing, I've unlocked an advanced class for Maribel and I switched to it but now I'm thinking that maybe I should master other vocations that need less battles so I can get a variety of skills before specializing.

This game's really great. I don't think it's really for people looking for streamlined/expedited experiences. But if you want a game to mosey around in, this is it.

Oh boy, I forgot how long and tough the fights at Alltrades Abbey were. So many bosses.

Why did the big boss' ball swinging hurt so much. I am so lucky that no character died because of that.

Are you at the
arena
too? What level are you?

Nava is giving me a lot of trouble. At least one of my party members is down by the time I fight her so I never stand a chance against her. I remember that she was pretty tough in the original game. I guess I'll have to rethink my strategy.

The difficulty definitely feels toned down, at least early on. Just made it to the volcano island. Maybe it's because I'm older but I'm already enjoying this more than DW7 back in the day. Feels faster.

Should I even bother aiming for Hero if I'm not planning on grinding? IIRC, in DQ6 only the main character was able to get it when I played the main story, and that was because he had easier requirements. The other characters throughout the main story didn't even come close to attaining it. Is it the same thing here?

My Party was level 16. Just beat the temple boss. Nava is tough. I got lucky that Nev got a critical attack early. I use boomerangs, and bang to eliminate the slime knights first round. Since Nava uses ice, an Iron Shield or anything else that resists ice is useful. I also got magic vestments at the casino so her magic did little damage to Maribel and Ruff.

I want the following party set up end game.

Hero: hero
Maribel: druid
Mervyn: god hand or whatever it's called now
Ruff: monster classes

What are the recommended paths for this to happen.

Critical hits are insane in this game. :p Nev does a little over 200 damage with a critical hit. I have an iron shield on the hero and both the hero and Ruff have edged boomerangs. I think I'm good on equipment. Maybe I'm just having bad luck. I just got to level 15 so I'll try the fight again.

I tend to swear by Warrior->Priest->Fighter->Gladiator->Paladin->Champion->Hero for the main character

Of course, feel free to switch the order of the first 3 and Gladiator and Paladin depending on the current balance of your party

Does this game still use the party lineup to determine which character will be more likely to draw enemy aggro?

If I remember from the previous ones, the first (leftmost in battle) party member will be more likely to be targeted. It's really annoying how the game reshuffles the party to default with Maribel in the middle and Kiefer in the last slot, if so.

I can't wait to get on this. I remember fearing it would never be released in English and then years passed and I almost gave up on it.

Slogging through the second half of Bravely Default right now though. Kinda enjoying it but kinda want it to be over as well.

DQVII :D

The herb garden story seems like it was forced to be sad.

Dill seemed a bit annoying when you first meet him but not as bad as they wrote him 30 years later, the transition seemed kind of forced.

The whole damn thing is a mess honestly

Ehhhhhhh.

We're talking about a man whose only positive trait is that he's the son of the richest man in town and
he uses a woman's debt to his father to practically manipulate her into marrying him even though she doesn't love him(and he doesn't even realize that she doesn't love him because he's dense as hell and is basically only concerned with his own feelings while ignoring hers). I don't think it's forced that later down the line when he loses said money and starts realizing that the woman he loves doesn't actually love him, he starts drinking and lashing out. That's everything he had in life literally crashing down around him all at once.

I just unlocked the class system.

Now I need to figure out what classes I want for my party members. I might try some monster classes this time around since I never really used them before. :p

They reduced the amount of battles needed to master a class in the remake so you might be able to get it without having to grind forever it.

That should be more due to exp curve being exponential than variances in exp required per level for each character.

That is, the 100 extra experience it might take to get to level 3 doesn't really count for much when you need 10,000 extra experience to reach level 20. Similarly, the point where you get Ruff you can have a relatively massive gulf in total experience (say 10,000) but that amount is relatively small as you work your way up the exp curve (say, where 10,000 buys you just one level).

I'm pulling numbers out of the air here but the effect is the same in game, just with different values.

I get the idea, but that is not what seemed to be happening. I was expecting him to catch up like that but he stalled at 4-7 going up at about the pace of my others and then went up 3 levels or so per 1 level my other characters and then 2, etc. eventually settling close to everyone's level. IDK. Seemed to be non-standard to me. As does the MC slowing down against Kiefer and Maribel.

But that could just have been the appearance of things.

Game NPC implies that it wasnt manipulation but he had some kind of desire to save her from the debt through the marriage. But that it wasn't real love or something. He didn't seem like the type to only think about himself as was displayed in the party they threw for Carraway and he even acknowledged the party saved him. I think its just the crap where the guy gets the microscope placed on him more than anyone else. Carraway was the only one I really agreed with (and even he was bashed), just got the hell out of that mess.

All in all didn't seem that great though. It was just a soap opera paradoy where everyone was a mess. Dissapointed with the conclusion.

Somehow my idea to start my game this afternoon and play for half an hour before I had to do something else turned into four hours

oops

Also I just love how you can rotate the camera 360 degrees almost anywhere

So is there no way to regenerate MP other than resting at an Inn? It's a bit frustrating when I feel like I have to conserve my MP in a dungeon in order to handle the inevitable boss at the end.

He's dense so his intention at least isn't to manipulate her and he's not doing it on purpose. Consequently though, that's exactly what he's doing. The fact that he doesn't see what's obviously right in front of him shows that he's self-centered. Maribel actually calls him out on his shit, saying that if he really cared about her he could absolve her debt without forcing her into marriage and not have put her into an uncomfortable position she didn't want to be in.

This is probably my favorite DQ game. I love the vignettes. It's like a new little anime arc every island. 9 did that, too, but I'm loving it a lot more here because the party members are actual well written characters (especially Maribel. So sassy).

This game is aces.

really wish amazon did their 20% off on digital games during the release window. My ship date isn't till October. I have amazon credit so I want to use it.

The 3D in this game is really a mixed bag. It looks great in battles and some environments (mainly "important" areas you can tell had more work put into them), but makes simpler environments look worse. It's like some of the art is relying on a 2D display to "sell" the visual, but when it's 3D you see the actual geometry and the illusion is broken. A lot of these environments look decent or good in 2D, but rough in 3D.

Plus aliasing is worse in 3D, which is the opposite of most 3DS games I've played. This may be the first 3DS game I play mostly in 2D, but my natural inclination is to turn it on.

Having fun with the game of course, just something I wanted to comment on.

a question to all my PAL-FRIENDS= how good is the translation? i havent played it yet, but nintendo/se took a lot of time to translate this game in a good way...
so curious about that.

Seriously. I always look forward to that region.

Also is it just me, or is "weak 3D" actually stronger than "strong 3D" in the battles? o_O As in the depth is much stronger on the former.

Ah, the mech story. Sorry Aeana but this has always been a struggle for me. I hate this island.

it's only bad because they make you run around so much...I like the idea, the characters and the setting, but damn, why can't people speak to each other instead of relying on me to deliver their messages. I get why they send me to the Autonymus once, but everything after that is just dull.

Maybe I shouldn't laugh about what is happening in the big tree island
with all these demon king wannabes because I suppose it's pretty sad but the way they talk amuses me.

The layout of the towns/castles is annoying, and while it has a great ending, I just don't like the journey of this one. I prefer the ones that come before and after it much, much more.

This was the low point so far for me as well. It felt too long during the past and then it just went on and on during the present.

Maybe it was because I already played too much that day.

It really highlighted how much I enjoy the overall relative brevity of a DQ vignette.

My favorite part so far was definitely the part leading towards Alltrades, when the game suddenly gets harder and the dungeons way more interesting. It really felt like what I was reaching the end of the game if I didn't know better!

I just played through that robot section as well. I thought it was cool, I've actually gone back and fourth with it. During my 1st play through I loved that story/town. During my 2nd play through I remember being bored with it, but this was my 3rd play through and I feel like they nerfed something about it, or maybe since it was my 3rd play through the effect was lessened this time around.

Either way I enjoyed it.

I think all the DS remakes were a little easier and I was getting concerned with this game in that regard, but the last dungeon near the herb garden and your remarks to the dungeon before alltrades makes me happy.

For some reason I always remember the Keifer arc happening before alltrades, but I know that happens later.

Can't wait for job classes and for the game's difficult to sharpen up.

Leveling classes really is much faster. I choose thief for everyone first, did it is still fast.

I've never heard of this, why is that?

I always make Gabo a Sherpard so I'm leaning towards the slime class this time around.

I'm really lagging behind most folks in this thread. I'm on the island with the robits. Hoping to play a bit today my goal is to see a Pip, I love those little guys.

I remember enjoying the robot story on PS1. Will keep you all updated on whether or not I'm a monster.

So I just finished the robot island, past and present, thought it was superlong and boring.

Went to the shrine and seems I'm missing 1 fragment to unlock the next red island, so I'm kinda lost :(. Is there a not so obvious fragment I've might have missed? I've gone to most dungeons/towns and checking the radar, but nothing.

According to the Nintendo guide, my next destination is greenthumb gardens, but I'm missing fragments :(

Did you get the one in the
outpost town before the castle on the robot island
, it's in a room full of pots.
